I have been applying this instruction to senior slow pitch softball play. It has improved my hitting immensely. Could you do a couse or YT vid adopting these techniques and coaching to the slow pitch batters? Thanks Matt, that guy you gave a hat to wears it to the field all the time. Thanks for your generosity. SunCity HHI, Al

Hi Matt from Taiwan. I hugely enjoy your vids. I have a question about MLB life: why is it that players spit all the time? Sometimes it's a non stop flow...It is not like they are out of breath, just sitting in the dugout and it is pouring rain. In the past chewing tobacco I can understand, but nowadays it is just chewing gum...Do they spit also outside of the stadium?

you should do a video on that randy guy stealing home plate. Have you ever seen something like that before? I'm sure it's been done lots of times, but still an interesting thing to happen.

My new coach instantly went to Favorite Coach after telling me what this problem was.

I've watched enough pro swingers to know I'm wrong. It's funny though because I see this in my natural right handed swing, but notice I'm doing it "correctly" in my learned left handed swing.
I see it when I strike the ball--I'm "open" (my shoulders are still almost parallel to pitcher, but as soon as I make contact, I'm whipping them through--like he said--to generate power). I've always thought I "pulled" the ball when I swung left handed, but I think that's my shoulder action working properly actually...

I know you love your boys but can you do us padre fans a huge favor and apply for the hitting coach position I feel will be vacant real soon. Please?... pretty please? Tatis will hit 50 bombs with you and Myers will step 2 inches closer the plate, and Hosmer won't fall back when he swings. Grisham won't swing like a pinball machine...

I'm the "good posture to out of posture" guy when I am slumping. :(

  • @hiker-uy1bi

Generally good advice, but some of the best hitters ever had a relatively upright spine angle and would simply drop their hands farther if they needed to reach for outside or low pitches--rather than kinking spine angle over the plate. See Griffey, Strawberry, etc. And those guys had some of the sweetest looking swings. On low pitches Griffey basically just played golf.

This guy must really hate swings like Griffey Jr then, or Giambi, or Guerrero. All blatantly "incorrect" swings.

@@AntonelliBaseball Because they do either 1 or multiple of the things you say not to do in this video? Way, way more players with crazy swings or odd batting stances, etc, etc.

I use your videos to help coach my son.
I agree with all of your teachings, and this “posture” video was a break through!:)
I think your language is a key tool.
    I have a question/ point though…
It seems like sometimes it’s ok to disconnect when you realize something is off, your late or early, or you’ve guessed wrong, misjudged, or the ball is just trying to trick you, that you just come off of your swing just to make contact…especially with two strikes and fully committed.
Some of the clutchest game winners and most needed hits in history were bloopy desperation hits, so how do you teach a kid not to be a robot and not have to have an “always” mentality?
At what point do you break off to not strike out?
    Thank you 🙏
