Debit orders not SIGNED for should not go through period! They are simply not authorized. The customer should not have to work extra hard to do what the banks are supposed to. We pay a fee to keep the money safe isn’t it??? The Ombudsman is full of nonsense...uselessness all around and zero accountability
This documentary wasted so much time dealing with the wrong thing. The problem lies with the bank and any institutions higher up. Customers are supposed to be the only people who are able to process debit orders on their accounts. Full stop! The last part especially about how banks claimed they were introducing a system where you can approve a debit order before it takes place, has never happened.
2018 July and August R129 debited illegally off my ABSA account from a Naedo tracking via Absa acc debit order: CHEQ****, Sch t, 26/07/18 SETTLEMENT/C - NAEDO TRACKED DO, GRANDHOLDI/05004265210085, R-129.00, Help 0860008600. SMS RECEIVED FROM ABSA BANKING APP
The frustration of this!!! I can never get it! I now keep my account empty. Ugh 😫. I live in Australia and lived in the UK for 12 years before this. Left home 2002 and hadn’t experienced this. Was shocked to see debit orders I never approved on my statement. In the UK no debit order got approved without the account holder having pre/approved it in person with a signature! Irks me that my money can just leave my account without my consent in South Africa!!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺💔
Mxm these bustards are still doing this even today, especial with NEDBANK. What I do is to withdraw all my money as soon as I get paid, I have no option because if I ever leave it on my account they take R100.00 which I don't know. I went to the bank n they gave me an internet link which they said I can use it to reverse debit order. I never use it, I don't trust them anymore n I can't risk my confidential information by using the link they gave me so I just prefer to withdraw all my money
Absa lied. There is not such online tool. I tasked Absa to sort these debit orders on their own as it was their responsibility in the first place. Interestingly since my complaint was filed the debit orders stopped.
The Justice system in SA is toothless.
Bottom line dont accept any call centre calls.
I have truecaller and do not accept such calls but this still happens. Banks are in on this.

I'm with fnb and two fradulant debit orders went on my account

Mthokozisi, I am also with FNB, and experienced same fraud, but reversed the deductions with FNB successfully
