Love it!!! You said an entire weekend's worth of classes in a few significant minutes. Thank you for reminding folks that we didn't trade one bondage for another, be self-educated not mass-mislead, that choices are healthy and they bring freedom. Keep up the good work pretty lady!
My goodness, it's like you are speaking to my experience as well. I didn't do anything to my sisterlocks except what I was told initially (no oil, no nothing) and my hair became dry and brittle and broke. I am just now recovering and venturing off into my own personal hair care routine. Thanks so much for this video.
You're quite welcome. Sharing my experiences my first 3 years. Hair always gives feedback. We have to adjust and heed it. Thanks so much for sharing. =)
I'm new to SL one week in! And I had already thought this! I've was loose natural for about 7 years and I learned what my hair needed. I know I'm going to follow the "rules" for as long as my hair is thriving and settling in! But, I've also learned to listen to my hair as well.
Amen, amen, amen!!! This video gave me life and validates what I already do! I have had Sisterlocks for 13 years and I know my hair and the 'protocol' doesn't work for me. Thanks!
I will follow the protocol until my locks mature (going on 3 months). But I will definitely adjust as time goes on. Thanks again for another informative video P. R!
Thank you. It seems like nobody knows what you're going thru unless they have experienced it. I was contemplating on cutting off my locs do to the topic of your video. Nobody could really give good advise they sort of listened and said a few words but I still was left feeling uncertain of what I should do. My hair is pass bra strap length but not quite waist length. I've only been 4 yrs loc'd & 6yrs natural. It grows really fast. But since watching this video I think I'm going to stick to it. Thank you again💖
Hey Serita! My hair isn't that uniform. When they are all grouped together it appears more uniform. I have some big loc's, small locs, a few bumpy locs. Depends on what I was going through at that time of hair growth. Thanks for the compliment though. =) Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this. This helped reaffirm some of the choices I've made with maintaining my locs. I'm fair early in my journey (8 months) but I had to start adding a little oil to my hair. Water only wasn't enough. My locs and scalp were extremely dry. I started massaging my scalp with a little oil and applying, literally, a dime sized amount of oil throughout my hair and it made a world of difference with no set backs. Rules are great for giving structure but sometimes you have to bend them.
+MsTikiB Yes indeed especially if you have differing needs. You are applying it the perfect way. A scant amount will do the trick. Thank you for sharing my friend. =)
Can u tell me wut's yr opinion on putting oil on locks in the beginning of sisterlock journey? I hear some people say it's a good thing and others say don't u dare.
My locs were fine until I bleached them. My hair will dry out and break if i don't moisturize. I have restarted my locs a will follow protocol for 1 complete year and stop.
Hey +CallMeKiyah. Everything is feedback. You now know what to do with your hair. Lifting the hair (going lighter) takes a toll on your hair. Even darkening it has its toll. Moisturize moisturize. And everyone has different moisturizing requirements. Praying for a successful journey (to you liking of course) this time around. Thank you for sharing =)
wow as a SL newbie ( approaching 3 months) I never thought about the job of water and oils. this was helpful. I'm following the rules but my hair feels so dry and my i have a very dry flaky scalp.
+AVVONDA PARKER hey Avvonda. You are in the stages where oil and water will cause slippage. Talk to your consultant to find a solution that works for you. I followed the protocol for 3 years and when I moved away from it I was fully loc'd. Just saying. There are ways to combat the dry flaky scalp. Explore, and work it out. Let me know what you find. Thank you for sharing. =)
I did not have that experience but the SL shampoo did not work for me. First of all, my head is an oxymoron: I am a 4c with a very oily scalp. I learned long before I got locked not to put oil on my scalp because my hair would fall out from the root. I would only put oil on my hair. Once I got sisterlocks I stopped putting oil on my hair. My locks got long, thick and heavy the first 8 years. Rough to the touch but was not wetting my hair often. My edges were always thin so I was disappointed when when I did not experience thickened edges as hoped for with the locks. But I did not experience additional thinning. Four years ago I colored my locks which reduced the weight of the hairstyle and thinned my locks. This was an expected but appreciated. I was seriously considering cutting my hair back then. As far as the shampoo, I switched to Free & Clear Shampoo by Pharmaceutical Specialties and also use the conditioner. This product is protein free and is designed for people with extreme allergies. It was the first time in 10 years that I now use conditioner regularly. After 2 years my hair texture is softer and it's easier to manage and I wash it more often.
+pearlsrevealed See look at that! You took the time to learn what works for you. You had to courage to address your issues and solve them. You also realized that the protocol given wasn't YOUR protocol for the hand you were dealt. Thank you for sharing your experience. Appreciate it greatly. Perfect example thanks. =)
Thank you because I I'm going through that right now problem is I'm nine years in. I cut my hair every year for the last 4 years and my hair is a little past my shoulder. My hair is thinning so I went to the doctor and the doctor said I had traction alopecia . I would believe that had it been in the beginning when I was tightening my hair every month now I go every other month or so and I have thinning. So I guess I'll just have to change my regiment but I've always put oil and water in my hair coconut oil and all of oil when I wash it so I changed mine shampoo and I'm washing my hair more thank you
+Arternischel Haney Yes our journey changes with our lifestyle and we have to adjust as we go along. We have to watchful and adjust. Thank you for sharing my friend. Appreciate the experience shared. =)
Hey lady, my sisterlock journey starts in November. I live in Schaumburg IL. I've looked up several sisterlock consultants for installation. I'm just of afraid of running into one that really doesn't believe in healthy hair. In my prior experience with hairstylist, they'll say they believe in healthy and hair scalp. But in the end, all lies!! What do you recommend?
Follow your gut and do your due diligence. You are doing great. You are aware already between their words and actions keep looking at their skills AND actions to see if congruent. Thank you for sharing =)
Hey Humblekellz. I am at loss with the question. In what context do you mean for method for installing sisterlocks? The methods (loc pattern choice depend on curl pattern and density of hair. The best methods also respond to also how the hair responds to the install and subsequent retightenings. Interlocking is when the hair is looped upon itself to form a braid like or macrame like loc. Which is different that twisting the hair Palm rolling the hair in to a loc. Hope this helps. Thanks for sharing =)
+P. R. Charles Hey, thanks for the response. I was told there were several ways to install the locks. You have cleared uo alot of my misconceptions. Thanks again..
Interesting because there are multiple factors. I don't expect much sheen on locs, but I will say that some women are on medications that cause thinning, do not eat properly, and wear tension forming styles. Others have stress that will affect the front edges and cause thinning. Ultimately you give good advice about varied hair care needs, but I will add that internal factors can affect the appearance of Sisterlocks as well.

Hi P.R. Charles! Will you do a video showing your locks "up close and personal?" The uniformity of them?
Hey Serita! My hair isn't that uniform. When they are all grouped together it appears more uniform. I have some big loc's, small locs, a few bumpy locs. Depends on what I was going through at that time of hair growth. Thanks for the compliment though. =) Thank you for sharing.
