Hello There! Developer Commentary time! Uhhh yeah this is probably the best mod I’ve made, it’s really really good and it’s been playtested to hell and back. I can’t wait for y’all to see more of it! There’s a lot to cover about gameplay design choices today so I guess I’ll give the quick version of the things I think people will want to know about. The unit tags have changed to be small/medium/large because things like calling roaches light despite their high base armor bothered me. Also I like this system as it’s pretty easy to go “yeah that’s a big one” the blurriest line is probably small/medium. I occasionally had to differ to balance considerations. Probes: Grant was wrong about probes leaving him at an odd number of supply, because real scale probes don’t cost any supplies at all! Grant was actually also spot on with why warp in probe was added, it’s a lot of fun with deploy pylon and if you care you can get saturated faster by using it. Smart autocast probes has sadly ruined standard SC2 gameplay for me, I’ve been spoiled. Zealot: 1 supply, ignoring armor and (Grant didn’t notice this) damage resistance while charging. The zealot is a useful tool throughout the entire campaign and is never bad fluff around your army. (You will notice armor ignoring as a common theme for Protoss melee attacks 😊) Stalker: It’s the same good formula from standard gameplay. Grant is correct though it does struggle vs mutalisks as mutalisks are small and stalkers have a bonus vs medium. I’ll leave the Colossus and Immortal in-depth discussion for their respective mission. The minimum range thing is a common balance for siege weaponry in RTS, nothing too remarkable about that. Immortals haven’t changed much from RS WoL, they’re still rocking hardened shield and barrier. The bonus vs large lets them tackle large ground like ultralisks and Thors that the Protoss really don’t have.
Grant sounds like a kid who's unboxing his first Christmas presents and I'm all for it. A giggling Grant is good for your mental health and entertainment.
Technically, in some parts of the world, there's still Orthodox Christmas (it's on Jan 7th). And for my time zone video was released exactly when that day ended, nice timing. Oh yeah I remembered that people don't give presents on Orthodox Christmas, damn it.
7:23 Hybrid: Firstborn your fate is Seaaaa... OH MY GOD!! (Gets impaled by the giant colossi's leg) Colossus 1: Hey did you hear something? Colossus 2: Nah get back to purifying
fun fact about the Colossus in lore. Before they were banned by the Protoss, they were used against the Kalathi, a lesser alien race that went to 'war' against a small Protoss force after some escalation. Due to the Kalathi constantly harassing the researchers, they unleash the Colossi on them. In the end, hundreds of thousands of Kalathi died and they were sent back to the stone age. which lead to the ban of Colossi and Protoss's isolationism, and this happened right after the Protoss recovered from the age of strife too.
the Immortal definitely feels like a Main Battle Tank, even moreso than normal. Just a giant chunk of durability and decent firepower in the front line. Very cool
@@IsmaelSantos-iy4xi If you do well for a whole campaign or two expect the Director to drop something like a Tank at the start of The Passing on you. Seriously, it did that to me in L4D2 on my first ever playthrough.
Seeing the cinematic Phoenixes in For Aiur shooting down the flyers that you actually have to fight against is funny As for the next planet, Korhal has the Moebius BCs, and maybe Jim/Valerian will have their own Real Scale Thors and BCs. That'll be a treat. It also is the calm before the storm that is the Hybrid Nemesis
@@amplesstratleholm7609 I have seen them. I do not recall any such "battlecruiser". The capital ship of the Terran, to my knowledge, is the mighty Cattlebruiser.
Seeing colossi of this size and scale goes a long, long way towards justifying why activating them and the Purifiers is a turning moment for the fortunes of the Protoss in the overall story arc.
After Grant entirely overlooked the extra base for fun protoss memes in the HotS temple mission, Orca made sure to add a beacon to the new base so Grant wouldn't miss it. Because Orca learns from his mistakes.
The Modder: "Ok Grant, here is the first part but the mod isn't done yet so please wait a bit more before playing it" Grant: "...no, i don't think i will" Jokes aside, i really loved the first mission, it's so good to see the protoss just destroy the zerg Also, the enemy doesn't need more hybrid, just put extra BCs/Carriers in the enemy side and it they will be just fine XD
Legacy of the Void Real Scale? I'm ALL for it and I can't wait to see units that covers the entire universe. It's gonna be stupid, ridiculous and I will love it
The mothership from the beginning later disappears from the minimap, is this happens in the normal LotV or something funky happened? Its girthness happened to be in range of some spore somewhere and got splashed with acid to death?
Hmm. Shall we go to shakuras, where we will get to see some DTs, about 5 billion zerglings, a couple of ultras, and eventually some hybrid, most notably the hybrid nemesis? (The void ray one) Or will we go to korhall, where we will get to see a feck ton of battlecruisers, Thors, Ravens, hybrid dominators, and behemoths.
Zerg Hatchery: [chilling on Aiur] Protoss Mothership: Thank you so much for visiting our planet...this concludes the portion of the game where you continue living.
Watching real scale Protoss units melt the Zerg makes me understand why the Conclave mistakenly believed they could win the war during the Overmind's invasion of Aiur.
On the topic of features making things more accessible for newer/less skilled players, one thing I really wish was an option in SC2 is reconfiguring F2 to select unhotkeyed units instead of all units, if only because it's such a nice convenience feature if you're starting out, but also makes it difficult to comfortable controlling multiple distinct groups of units because F2 is the easiest way to grab your new units, but it also makes it difficult to filter out the units in your other control groups, thus causing them to all get messed up anyway so you just go back to F2 -> a, and while you can just unbind it, I don't think? there's an option to prohibit clicking on it which is still easier than manually selecting the new units.
I feel like Khorhal is the obvious first choice for the simple reason of having a siegebuster. Until then you're reliant on mass zealot to crush big targets like thors, ultras and collosi. The immortal is probably a key part of the run since it's more durable and less susceptible to aoe, although depending on detection the DT might be able to pick up that slack.
I really love the Zealot here, given how most lore depictions of Protoss armies are very Zealot heavy, and thus melee focused(even though they have lasers), it makes sense that they have a good reason to get up close and personal
I think its probably a good idea to go to Korhal, as you don't currently have a great way to deal with Large. I also really want to see some more hybrid.
Friendly reminders regarding the zealot: In Cold Symmetry, a short story, one was able to outrun the rotation of a moon, while poisoned by a hydralisk Same one jumped high enough to reach an overlord, killed it, dodged hydra spines, which travel at supersonic speeds, went down, killed the hydras, almost killed an ultralisk, then did kill it using a beacon, which only knocked him unconscious. Woke up, kept running, killed two more ultralisks by himself, with only a single psi-blade and a hydra claw that he strapped to his other arm, and this wasn't even the first time he had done so, though the first time he had lost an eye. (Hearing that right btw, like, actually full on ultralisks. He also flexes that this is something most veteran zealots could do) Outran an entire zerg army to place the final beacon, allowing him to contact part of the Golden Armada in orbit, telling them the zerg were under something's (the hybrid, but he didn't know that) control, he thought it was a cerebrate. In other short stories, they have abilities like precognition, travel at super, maybe hypersonic speeds by turning into pure energy (when is that coming to the twilight council?). In cinematics they're able to tank full baneling blasts with their shields alone, a single fingernail sized amount by the way is able to collapse buildings. Oh right, and psi-blades: I don't think there's a single instance of anything other than another psi-blade being able to physically block one. This doesn't apply to zealots, but Tassadar was able to manifest them into ORBIT, without the necessary gear, by just sheer psionic force of will. Obviously named characters, in stories about them, are going to be stronger than ye average protoss warrior, but zealots get slept on a lot.
YEAHHHHH BABYYYY, LET'S GOOOOOO 💙 LoTV is the campaign that interested me the most in real scale. I can't wait to see the amazing job the modders did 👀
This is freaking awesome, so exited to see the rest of this campaign! Also, why are colossi called long zealots?? Been wondering this for the longest time
I think the colossus was harder than it should have been because you forgot to take advantage of it's minimum range. Aka get all of your stalkers directly under it so it can't shoot them.
Now I understand why Tempest are supposed to be this giant 'anti capital ship' ship. Because they shoot laser balls the size of friggin void rays! No wonder those things tear apart giant space ships on seconds...

Colossi in lore: giant mecha devastating to the point where deploying them was considered war crime tier. Colossi in game: daddy longlegs with half the damage and HP
Grant said he's opening the discussion and I think Korhal would be the best choice for acquiring the Immortal to bring foes to heel since Shakuras has a lot of enemy armour and ultralisks on its defense
Lore-wise, they were designed to basically be moving fortresses because they couldn't make more of them. It makes sense for them to be kind of overpowered. lol
huh, collosus is actually a unit that I wouldn't give a minimum range. If I recall correctly, there was a story where someone ran or drove around its massive legs and still got incinerated because those lasers are really precise
That's one hell of an unexpected notification, and having the chance to be the first dude watching the vid and liking is also so great. I don't know how many stars have aligned but dang that's good
my immediate thought about warping in probes would be for base expansion and forward deployment of things like batteries or cannons since you get 2 pylon abilities and the matrix field all of which allow you to have a power field where ever you so wish, just drop a field/pylon and warp in a probe then you can warp in an entire base on the spot if you so wish while also providing a warp point for reinforcements if you like to use warp gates over gateways
Been waiting for this for a long time. I said this in the Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm playthrough and I'll say it again. I believe that each in-game unit does not represent a single in-universe unit but multiple in-universe units with the exception of the mightiest ones.
