Top Five Most Massive Bee Hives

  • These are five of the largest bee hives I have removed & relocated.
A large colony of honey bees can contain anywhere from 30,000-50,000 bees.
They sometimes can get upwards of 100,000 individuals!
All of these colonies you see in this video were located in New Orleans, Louisiana with the exception of the first one which was located near Port Sulphur, Louisiana.
JP the bee man is a live honey bee removal specialist who will go just about anywhere for bee work but resides in Metairie, Louisiana.
JP is on facebook, instagram & twitter as JPthebeeman.

Do you think they would chose to die when he treats them with respect, stupid flapping around like a crazy thing cos they might be horrific 'killer bees' is what makes even the most docile bee unhappy and liable to sting.

I want to congratulate you on your work, I always follow TH-cam. I am impressed by the size of the swarms there in the USA. Here in Brazil our swarms do not reach this proportion, and are very defensive. Congratulations and a big hug.

Clodoaldo Maina the domesticated bees have been selectively bred for less fighting, more work. If you can introduce some good gentle queens - making sure they're not introducing any parasites or diseases! - you'll be able to have gentle, hardworking bees too.
They still fight enough to protect themselves from predators. They're just not crazy aggressive any more.

I feel jealous, here in the western suburbs of Melbourne, I have only seen a swarm once and even though we get bees coming to visit every warm day, we don’t see hives at all.
Thanks to shoes like yours I was brave enough to walk within 2m of the bee swarm and once I determined that they were chill with me there, I brought my son over to see them, which he loved. We didn’t get any closer as I didn’t want to accidentally step on them as with the vegetation, it was harder to see where they fell. Lol they were a bit clumsy

Evelyn Rojas if you're in the suburbs and have a back yard, can you keep a couple of hives there? I'm in rural Victoria, and my bees are flourishing this year!
And yes, a new swarm is very placid, and if you can get them into a hive box while they're still carrying plenty of stores, they will get right on with being happy bees. They're lovely!

I had a swarm at my apartment once on the back patio. They made their hive between two bushes. They formed what looked like 2 footballs.
The bee guy came out and removed them. He said a new queen bee was born and she had to leave her hive and start a new one.
I was able to watch the process from the safety of my bedroom. He removed them just like you did. Couldn't understand him not wearing the full on safety suit, just like you.
He did get stung once or twice, didn't even flinch!
I'm allergic to insect bites so I was freaking out.

    Is that a standard vacuum?
    Or a special soft suction?
As I’m worried those sucked into the vacuum will be harmed or killed? Please advise!

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s a “bee vac.” It utilizes a 1.75 HP motor & has a suction regulator built into the unit.
The regulator allows for enough suction to vacuum the bees into the catch box below without killing them.
A standard shop vac without a regulator & proper ventilation will kill bees, this one is designed to save them.

The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Ackroyd. Even though it wasn't really shot in Wisconsin it's nice 2 see Wisconsin depicted nicely in movies being a Wisconsinite. Ringtone reminded me of that movie cuz the song was just recently released and gaining popularity and they allowed it for the beginning of the movie which helped set a good mood for the rest of the movie.
