@18:15 The good ol' tune THE BLUE DANUBE (DIE BLAUE DONAU) by the Austrian king of the waltz, Johann Strauss (1825-1899), can be heard. Stanley Kubrick and his musical director also used it for the first shots of the spaceship in the seminal film 2001 Odyssey in Space. For almost one hundred years, many other musical directors have also been paying homage to THE BLUE DANUBE.
Lest I forget: A blind man who isn't blind harks back to Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse (1933), and a blind man who is, in fact, blind reminds of us of yet another Lang masterpiece, namely "M" (1931), with Peter Lorre in his most impressive role ever. It is he (the blind man, not Lorre, mind you!) who recognizes Lorre by the song he uses to whistle when searching for his next victim and he marks him with the capital letter "M" (standing for MÖRDER = murderer) on his back.
But now, back to this here film.😉
