The infrastructure was cared for then, No Buddliea or endless trees growing uncontrollably. Great film.

      Buddliea ! you should have seen ( platform 17 , Stratford station , London , UK ) .. in 2002 , well before the Olympics ( you might have got " uncontrollable " 😝 ) .. DAVE™🛑

As someone who has only ever just recently traveled from Guildford this footage is quite remarkable - I think you have a absolutely brilliant vantage point and the vista of the surrounding station area is quite something to behold. I loved the trains as well, this video probably popped up as I love the BR Hastings line diesel units, and so nice to see some other diesel rolling stock in both NSE and BR livery here. Brilliant upload, will watch again !

That brings back some memories. The worst BR cheese sandwiches could be bought from the buffet on platform 2.Thank you for sharing.

this mustn't be that long before it was rebuilt. I loved how grubby and shabby it was...

Modernisation of most hitherto unelectrified routes across the Southern was the big thing in 88. Also the liquidation of most older non corridor EMUs such as Haps as part of the NSE project.

Great footage! Do you have any taken from the actual station itself?

@@spompey Ah ok. Well it would be good see at some point, but I'm not so interested in anything 1990 or after as the area hasn't really changed much since then (until very recently). I'm mostly interested in the old station building and platforms, but there seems to be very few videos of that online anywhere.

The ( 1980's slam door ) rolling stock has one HUGE benefit ... you can get out easily in a train " accident " .. try doing that when the doors are ( electronically ? ) locked . DAVE™🛑

The modern trains that I was involved with had what they call an Egress handle which was operated by air and opened the doors in an emergency in such a case, if I can remember correctly....many thanks Dave and best regards...Mark

May I ask was it part of the railway station or an old goods shed being demolished? Great film as always. Thank you for sharing.

Its ironic that only 35 years later the "new" station which is unbelievably crap 80s architecture is being engulfed by a monster development of bland tower blocks similar to how East Croydon is now. They are guaranteed to age badly and need replacing in a generation.

Ugly it will become....many thanks for the comment and best regards to you Simon...Mark
