This was the best I ever heard Jack sound. We criss-crossed at a few stations over the course of our careers and he was always great but at KKHR he showed that he could still do his schtick under the discipline required of the 80's, the station and the market. R.I.P. my leader. What times we all had.
Seeing this aircheck reminds me of when I sat in with The Real Don Steele when the station was Oldies 93 in 1991. Same room at Columbia Square on Sunset in Hollywood, same P R & E board, even the cart decks are in the same place. Just a few doors down the hall from the KNX 1070 studio.
Thank you for posting. I have air checks on cassette from Jack Armstrong. It's great to see live video action. He made it sound like more than himself doing the show. What a talent. Very inspirational.
I, only, can guess what Mr. Armstrong looked like, here; I've a brief aircheck, from CHUM. It's from '67(I believe) and, I would like it, much better, had it not had to be recorded, on a portable cassette player's condenser microphone.
This was my favorite station I found when I spent a week in the area, because it's the one's I recorded on a couple cassettes that I still have. Maxwell high output tapes and a couple TDK ones also.
I was more impressed, when Mr. Armstrong hit the fade. A song's intro(depending upon its length)may have two or, three posts. Can't get enough of these "Jack Armstrong" memories. 'Never, seen anybody "play" a board with such skill.
@@djdon60 Yes Don I sat hours with Jack in the stations and yes he was a Master on that Board. I would get dizzy watching him incredible Miss My Best Friend.
@@ApartmentKing66 KFRC was *so* selective about its air staff. The other stations said, "KFRC, you don't have to go all over the country to find the 'right' mix of air talent. You're being way too picky."

@@HitsTownUSA Yes, that was a great early 80s KFRC lineup. I also loved the lineup around '77 and '78 of Dr. Don, Big Tom Parker, Rick Shaw, John Mack Flanagan and Marvelous Mark McKay.
Without question, Jack was a "board master". I wish I would have had an air job that would challenge the console even half that hard. He made it seem so easy, and obviously he enjoyed the hell out of it. Here's to the "Jock King". RIP
An example of retro top 40 radio. The station talent and management teams made profitable profits for their companies. This format was a successful one for its time.

He was at 13Q (WJAS and WKTQ) 1320 AM in Pittsburgh from 1973-75 and WNBC in 1978, among many other stations. A true credit to the profession!

He was on KFRC, too. That station hired all the best jocks and paid them top $. I was never good enough for them.
