I left my hair dye on a little longer then stated and it came out very dark almoat black, dye was an ash brown dye semi permanent. I used this method and it took a lot of the darkness away (dye had been in my hair for around 3 weeks) It now looks like a chocolate brown. I did a strand test first to make sure. My hair was dry after so I used a deep conditioner (highly recommended). Very happy with the results.

Vitamin - C (Ascorbic Acid) is a strong Reducing Agent meaning it will break up the color molecules by ripping out the Oxygen Molecule(s) binding the color molecule with the intermediate that forms the Dye. it only works on Oxydative Color it will not affect natural Melanin or Direct Dyes.

Thanks for that! I love the science! I've been using this method for years and always wondered HOW it works. Why use stinky sulfur (Color Oops) when you can use vitamin C to do the same thing?

I was using my vitamin C SERUM on my hair when I ran out of my hair defrizz because it had dimethicone in it. I noticed my hair started becoming lighter, like highlights of chocolate brown in my black dyed hair. It was an unexpected, pleasant surprise. I love how it looks, especially because I wanted to get highlights but my hair was too damaged to handle the chemical lift. I did not shampoo my hair with it, I just added it to my dry hair and the flat ironed it.

So am I Understanding it correctly, if I use vitamin C on semi/ Demi permanent color it’s not possible to get back to your natural hair cause the natural molecules are always taken away or changed by the semi/ demi permanent colour already?😅

Hmm, I didn't know about sodium ascorbate and calcium ascorbate (ph of 7). I've been using ascorbic acid all along, with dish soap, wet hair, left on in a shower cap under a towel for an hour, and it works. I've always wondered why, because I know vitamin C is an acid. Apparently it breaks down dye molecules... I used to crush them with a rolling pin. Today I used my mortar and pestle, and sifted it, because I wanted to be sure I had no large grains to scrape my scalp. It was very smooth. And my hair feels fresh and clean and is lighter.

L-Ascorbic acid, the one in most skincare but also food is acidic. Found out the hard way, I now always add some baking soda to neutralize to a certain degree and check with a pH-strip.

I dyed my hair with a box dye in light ash brown and it turned it a very dark brown almost black. I used vitamin c and dandruff shampoo and lightened it a couple of shades but now I have alot of orange brassy color. I don''t know how to fix it. It seems like every light brown turns it very dark.

Why is it disturbing and why shouldn’t it be done at home? I’ve done it 4 times in 1 month and my ends went a little dry and that’s all. I’ve had the ends cut off and It’s back to normal now. I got it from black that’s been in my hair for 7 years to a brown colour with orange tones. Even my hair salon was surprised how I got the black out so well and with the small amount of hair that was left dry.

😢I did it and it worked..my hair came out really nice and soft. I used head n shoulders clarifying shampoo with apple cider vinegar and the vitamin C that I had. I Left it in for almost an hour but I could see the color lifting after about 1/2 hour. It took the almost black color out to a nice brown and has red and blonde tones in it. I started out with dark blonde.

I’ve read that vitamin C oxidise copper an essential trace mineral that gives our hair it natural Pigment therefore If you Consume too much vitamin C you were left with gray hair am not sure if I want to do this especially when I’m starting to get premature graying 🫠
