  • @reddieseled

    I recently bought a used laney cub10 and it packs a seriously smooth clean punch and mild smooth distortion when you hit a bit harder. Dynamic id say. I wish I tried laney sooner as the sound signature is a blend of everything. I’ve had a couple of the AC4s and they sound quite edgy and honky.
    One thing to note about the laney is the build quality is superb with a full thick steel chassis, ply wood box and about 50 screws holding it all together!

    I love the cleans of the Laney and the overdrive of the vox. Wish they could be combined! I suppose it’d probably be pretty interesting to run them together.

    Laney just has the most full sound of all of these. I've played the blackstar, the vox, and the Laney. The Cub 10 is actually pretty awesome. I didn't realize that I like the Laney tone so much, but, you compare the tone quality with the rest, and it totally works. You should also check out the Laney IRTPulse Preamp. It's a tube preamp, USB interface, Re-amper, all in a pedal sized package that has the Laney sound.

    Some of that crunch probably comes from the slim MFD single coils on G&L guitars being a bit dark and crunchy, almost like a P90, the bigger MFD's are a bit brighter but not as bright as a classic single coil. I think for true chime you should go with a classic Jazzmaster, neck on a strat, or just simply a Telecaster.

    • @erhnam
      @erhnam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, this is why I always wondered why my ASAT doesn't sound like a regular telecaster. It's dark and fatty like a P90 but with a twang. I always love the sound I get from it but it never gave me that classic telecaster bite. Thank you for this information.

    how those tube amps works?
    when you turn up the gain you have to turn down the volume if you are in a bedroom with volume isses?

    • @aixpert291
      @aixpert291 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Mirko Burroni amps have two power sections; pre-amp tubes and power tubes. Pre-amp is the (mostly) gain section, where you use the gain knob to go from clean to dirty. The harder you drive the pre-amp tubes, the more distortion you get. The volume knob is for the power tubes.the more volume coming out of the pre-amp tubes, the harder it hits the power tubes (which can cause those to distort or clip as well, which is where that real tube amp sound comes from. So more gain = louder into power amp = more volume. That's why people talk about "headroom", to get loud enough to play with a band AND still be clean, without clipping either set of tubes, you either need tubes that are resistant to clipping, or a lot of power. I'm on mobile so i took some license for brevity. Hope this helps.

    Here are my two cents:
    I have tried A LOT speakers in this amp, modern and originals.
    For clean jazz tone the legend L 1218 is the best I have tried so far in it.
    A 16 ohmed G12T75 modern takes out the low mids so makes it sound very sparkly and fendery- good if you want to.
    A vintage V30 that had a dense steely tone- good for slide guitar.
    Greenbacks sound very woody, but are not my top choice.
    G1265- similar to the stock HH 1265 in many ways, very nice.
    The best was an EVM12L, original, in a thiele cab.
    And the best overall was an Eminence 16 ohm Lady Luck- unbelievable speaker.
    So good it make me email Eminence to ask for similar contemporary speakers of them (lady lauck is an OEM Emily speaker) and they informed me that their currently produced equivalents are the CV 75/ 65, Reignmaker, Governor and Legend L1275recommended- and they are correct, you may go with any of these!!!
    From Celestions for this amp I recommend:
    Alnico blue, gold, cream, ruby.
    G12H anniversary- not the Heritage.
    Any Creamback, especially the H75.
    V type first, A type second.
    G1265/ T75.
    70-80/ G12P80.
    From Eminence those I mentioned first plus the GA SC64 plus many others.
    From Jensen C12N, K2, P12.
    This amp packs a lot of punchiness, boominess and low mids due to circuit design and small enclosure so you may need to compensate for that with the speaker choices.
    It is a GREAT amp, totally recommended.
