A little over 105 years ago, men who had been sent to fight in the most destructive conflict in human history up till then, got out of their trenches and for a brief moment, saw the guys on the other side, not as enemies, but as fellow human beings. A truly beautiful moment.
Shalom Mike, if only the upper ones could have the idea to let some of their men decide by a footballgame about their conflicts instead of sending them to kill each other, there would probably be less too early grief in the world. But unfortunately such photos like those in the beginning were the proofs that led to the punishment of all the involved soldiers (not only the officiers, the germans e.g. alltogether including their OLt. have been transferred to the eastern front.), so the lower ranks were more reasonable than the higher ones...

While the events in Joyeux Noel were extremely exaggerated in some regards the part where the German opera guy starts singing silent night and the Scottish reverend joins in with his bagpipes makes me teary eyed every time I see it.
What always gets me is how it is hard to kill a friend. Maybe if we sat down with our "enemies" and shared family pictures and a game of football, we would really find peace. Merry Christmas.
@@JamesHawkins54 Shalom James! For sure this would work, just because to get to know people is hearttouching. I used to sing this song at church when I was about ten years old. At that time, I didn't know what this music meant, but now it is really special to me. It makes me so melancholic and nostalgic... Makes me to think of all the people that died for the hands of the cruelty and human ambition.

Never let someone say things like "real men used to go to war, unlike today". The men who were in the Trenchs on Christmas of 1914 showed that true human nature isn't about waging war...it's about wanting peace. Let war only ever happen for when peace must be restored, until the day when it is no longer needed. We will always have conflicts with one another...but that doesn't mean you can't remember their human...just like you.
About 6 on the British side and 3 which skipped much stronger mail control and press censorship on the French and German side (that's what the director of the movie Christian Cafion said in the DVD extras). Maybe they have retrieved more in the meantime...Also there were several truces/fraternisations not only in 1914 apparently!
First 2 Verses I hear the mountain birds The sound of rivers singing A song I've often heard It flows through me now So clear and so loud I stand where I am And forever, I'm dreaming of home I feel so Alone I'm dreaming of home Its Carried in the air The breeze of early morning I see the land so fair My heart opens wide Theres sadness inside I stand where I am And Forever, I'm dreaming of home I feel so Alone I'm dreaming of home
You never know, I hope something like it happens and I have faith something like it will happen. That one day the soldiers of this earth will lay there weapons forever and pick up there kids and protest signs against war
Not really the first time. There were a few moments during the American CV evil war similar to this, whether it was dropping off a few supplies of coffee or tobacco after a battle or a little truce during a battle that raged so intensely it caused a fire in the wilderness, leading to a scramble to save their own skin and the wounded. There was even a confederate and a union soldier one winter found dead, clutching each other in a futile attempt to stay warm. Heck, TAPS was created when a union officer whose done who had joined up with the confederates found a poem his son had written on his body. Given the opposing sides, he was denied a military honor guard, but was allowed a bugler to play over his grave, giving birth to TAPS.
Shalom Jennifer, honestly, I'm not so sure about if this local truce was the only one initialized by lower ranks. There's a story running , that in Stalingrad the sending back of a soldier who had been catched fallen asleep instead of sending him to a pow-camp led to a sort of local truce for 1 or 2 days too. But I haven't seen any photos proving it thus far... Maybe the subordinates knew how the comrades in WWI had been punished for their truce, so in WWII in Stalingrad they made sure that the upper ranks would not get informed about it... Wise men !
As citizens there's not much we can do in the face of the wraiths who rule our countries but try to create bonds between the Russian, American and European peoples. Never again!

It really is sad that all them men in world war 1 and world war 2 had to go through this much stress of not dying and may not even make it back to their families 😞😫😢😢😢😢😭😭😭 but soldiers and navy or air force soldiers are one of my most favourite kind of people, hero’s because “no matter how scared they are, they will not back down and they will fight until their last breath if they’ need to” to all the soldiers out there then, and now, rest in peace and god bless, I pray you make it back home safe and if you are watching down in heaven don’t worry your families and friends know you are hero and you will always be remembered for that thank you for protecting my country and your country 🙏🏻🙏🏻👼🏻😇
The brave men (and recently women) who laid down their lives for their country deserve so much respect from the modern world. You see all these people calling veterans murderers but they fail to see that they 'murdered' for them and their freedom.
