Such a wonderful movie. Gary Cooper and Ann Sheridan are exquisite. Leo McCarey's films are special. Good characters, delightful jokes and some very touching moments. We need more films like this today - stories with good themes.
How many amazingly good movies did they make back then? This is just one more that I'm so happy I was able to watch. I don't watch anything but the old ones, they're the best, by far.
Wonderful film, and different! I got so angry for her sake, when he had lent away the house money, fantasy or not. That drunken scene in the bar was a master piece
I was just arriving home with a load of groceries today. I see my neighbor who cares for their elderly parents. I suggested to him that the package of cooked chicken I got was more than I would be able to eat before it spoiled, and would he accept some of it. It was just before noon, and he was excited with my offer! The elderly parents would have a nice lunch! He was happy, I felt good and came in and watched this great Gary Cooper movie! Thanks for the upload, Mr Borchers!
I love this movie. It has some great messages about giving, about not taking others for granted. But.... Good Sam like so many movies out of Hollywood misrepresents the Bible and the pivotal Word of Jesus Christ. Were supposed to love our neighbors. But were supposed to sacrifice everything for our spouse like Christ sacrifice everything on the cross.
Yes, William Frawley was a singer and comic who started his career in vaudeville. He reportedly was the first to perform "Melancholy Baby", and he sang "Carolina in the Morning" with Tennessee Ernie Ford on The Ford Show in 1957.
Such B.S. the beginning of the movie begins with a priest sing a homily on being a 'good person'. LMAO Ask anyone if they are a good person'; most answer to the. affirmative, YES! . . . God is GOOD!
Yes, Mrs. Nelson. Minerva Urecal was born Florence Minerva Dunnuck in Eureka, California in 1894. She later formed her stage name by combining letters from the names of her hometown and state.

1970 was the last time I saw a Salvos band playing on a street corner here in Australia. The end of my youth I think.

Jimmy stewart was a Mighty Man! Like of Gary cooper and Henry Fonda, down to earth mighty Men
Makes you remember what America is all about
I thought 'America' (the U.S.) was about "every-man-for-himself", with altruism being cosidered akin to communism

A better title would have been "Good Neighbour Sam"
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
"Sam" is short for "Samaritan" in this case... "Good Samaritan".
