I grew up in West Seattle, from age 10-15, my parents were buying a house on 42nd Street, near the junction, and the rent was $85.00/month. Went to Jefferson Elementary School, which is now Jefferson Square, Madison Junior High during the 1962 Alaska Earthquake, which rolled through WS, and West Seattle High School, which was named the "Indians", at that time. my father moved us to Southern California, because of his work, but I always loved WS, lived there when I was 10-15 years old. Still have a few friends that live there, was one of the best cities I had ever lived in!!!

West Seattle, aside from Alki Beach, has an excellent "high street", namely "King Street", with great shops, major grocery store, restaurants, festivals, and easy access to churches, post office, public bus transportation.

It is a disservice to not mention the massive inconvenience of the bridge closure getting into West Seattle. The main bridge getting into West Seattle is closed, and will be closed for years. The water taxi is for foot traffic only, and the detour route adds 30 minutes on your commute. Many people choose not to buy in West Seattle for this reason.

thank you for your input Adrienne and for watching the video close enough to give an insightful comment. You're of course right about the bridge being closed. SDOT's target for reopening is currently mid-2022, but there are hopes that it may be sooner: www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/transportation/mayor-durkan-aims-to-repair-and-reopen-the-west-seattle-bridge-by-mid-2022-can-the-work-move-faster/
With plenty of people working from home likely through the year it would be few who don't buy their dream home in the neighborhood because of the present inconvenience, but you raise a good point nonetheless.

@@seattlesmortgagebroker2081 My main concern is the amount of homeless population that is making Seattle a place not considered "safe" city. Is that still the case?

This article gives a good balanced conclusion to that question - see the final paragraph: visitseattle.org/travel-advisory/safety-in-seattle/
Seattle exhibits lower crime rates than other US cities of a similar size and as of Mar '21 Seattle has the lowest death rate of COVID-19 of the largest 20 metropolitan regions in the country. Hope that helps!

@@1111122234 Thanks for the ask. Like all cities, there are some areas that are going to be safer than others but with that said, West Seattle, especially within 20 blocks east or west of California Ave is very safe. There are some areas that could be considered rough around the edges that are further south but these areas have decreased their crime rates over the past decade.

Seattle and West Seattle are very expensive to live.
