At 167 km from the center of Athens, heading west to Mountainous Corinth (from the road that passes through #Xylokastro and Trikala Corinth), is the artificial lake Doxa, next to the village of #Feneos.
The lake is located at an altitude of 900 meters and its construction was completed in the late 1990s. In the past the lake has flooded several times covering the entire plain of Feneos. From the lake begins a dirt road that through a beautiful forest leads us to Zarouchla in the prefecture of #Achaia.
Lake Doxa is a favorite and well-known destination for excursions, rejuvenation and motorcycle riding. There is also a remote-controlled sailing race, as well as activities such as horse riding, lake biking, cycling, mountaineering and more.
The landscape changes colors at the turn of each season, making it even more enchanting. Nestled among wooded mountains, it is an ideal destination to relax and take a long walk in nature.
It is an artificial lake, located on the border of the Municipality of Feneos. After the village of Kastania, you will find yourself in the valley of Feneos. After meeting the villages of Mosia and Messino, at the sign for "Ancient Feneo" you will turn right and after a few hundred meters you will be in front of the lake. The lake is surrounded by the mountains Ziria, Helmos (Aroania) and Dourdouvana. When the snow covers the tops of the mountains, their reflection on the surface of the lake creates a unique spectacle reminiscent of an alpine landscape. The lake is located at an altitude of 880 m. It was created to deal with the problem of flooding, which from antiquity would raise the water level in the area and destroy crops. According to legend, at the highest point of the water one can find the gate of Hades. Due to the tide, the monastery of Agios Georgios was moved to the 17th century and in its place today is the church of Agios Fanourios which literally floats on the lake. You can go cycling and hiking around the lake and in the surrounding pine forest. You can see pedal boats or diving groups diving to admire the ruins of the old iconostasis of the monastery.
Lake Doxa is an artificial lake in western Corinth, Greece. It is located at an altitude of 900 m., Near the village of Ancient Feneos. The construction was completed in the late 1990s. In the heart of the lake on a small peninsula is the church of Agios Fanourios. The Monastery of Agios Georgios in Feneos was moved to a higher point, north of the lake.
