I think there's also the fact that Kylie herself is kind of already outdated, and her scandals don't really have anything to do with it. Back when her brand was successful, she was a teenager, and her fans were also teenagers or very young adults. Now there are just other teenage icons for teens and young adults, and Kylie's original audience has sort of outgrown the phase of obsessing over celebrities and probably has jobs and shit to worry about. Kylie was also kind of the face of the instagram model trend bubble, and that bubble burst a while ago and isn't coming back. She just isn't trendy anymore and that's sort of all that it comes down to.

I am also hoping that public sentiments towards the uber-wealthy (even amongst teenagers) are beginning to sour. Young people are increasingly progressive and anti-capitalist, and celebrities like the Kardashians are symbols of economic privilege and inequality. I like the idea that people are thinking, "Why are we idolizing these rich people so much when they've rigged the system so that we can never achieve what they have?" Maybe that's just hopium though

    • @LaFlor718

When her lip kits came out I was like 11/12ish and I saved up to buy some, I did actually like them and her collections that came out for the most part because of all the hype around it and probably the fact that the packaging was cute, which sticks out to someone who is in their early teens. It was definitely overpriced though and paying customs just added to it. Some of her products I actually did and do still really love, liquid lipsticks, high gloss, eyeshadow palettes and her Jordyn highlighter palette, which I still use to this day. I do feel like her brand is very heavily associated with her and it’s hard to differentiate the product from the person. It does seem like she was just trying to create products she wanted because after a while her collections were just the same thing repackaged, I was always disappointed to see the lip kit in her new collections would be a light nude, something I could never actually wear as a person of colour. If she had focused on the brand being more separate from her as a person, more inclusive and started with the basics first then downfall wouldn’t have been as bad. Also, if she tried to get her brand in stores and make her products more accessible for international consumers too that would have helped. I think that Kylie cosmetics was just a trend and like all trends they’ll eventually die down.

It was a cash grab because a chunk of her fans actually believed that lip liner was the reason her lips ballooned in size. Kris underestimated how many people actually believed in Kylie’s claims. Then they realized she had a bigger market than first thought, that would buy anything from her in the name of hoping to feel like her for a fraction of a second

Kylie cosmetics flopped because the make-up isn't good quality, the branding is centered on a privileged celeb with horrible promo, and people are trending towards natural looking make-up right now. Rare beauty is the standard for celeb make-up, Selena basically took Rihanna's inclusivity and made it for everyday wear and it's sold out everywhere.

Coming from someone who has bought literally every single limited edition Kylie release and still has because it has now just become collector's mindset. And also curious to see the evolution of her formulas over time- I have 1.6 million views showing my Kylie collection on Tik Tok, Kylie cosmetics Tik Tok posted my video to their Tik Tok- with this being said they should have grasped onto those REAL customers not influencers. I have spent my hard earned money on it all and showed it to my few followers. Have I ever been offered PR? Nope. As a real stan that is sad to see when your someone who is genuinely spending your money on product you want to buy. Focusing on bigger follower counts and subscribers, I get it but sending PR to a real customer who has been there since the first launch, I mean. It has kind of put a bad taste in my mouth by showing who brands appreciate more and it's not the paying customer.

@@MzPink1992 because brands tend to appreciate their customers who support them above and beyond. I have seen several occasions of them sending PR to people who have posted videos showing old products saying how sad their stuff had expired or sad that they don’t make this anymore or etc and they wrote back saying let us send you some new stuff and they had not nearly a fraction of what I have purchased. It’s not about the free stuff I can buy what I want to buy clearly but when you see that and they denied you the PR list because your following is “too small” that’s a slap in the face and makes you really think hard of where you want to spend your money. I think you’d be a little upset too. And to have followers on tik tok send me other people getting sent PR when I was denied saying “hey what did they send you after your video” and me saying absolutely nothing they were shocked and had a bad taste in their mouth.

Coty cosmetics, the company who bought kylie cosmetics, is a publicly traded company. When the sale went thru info about the brands financials became public and that's how we found out that kylie had over inflated the brands worth and lied about being a billionaire in Forbes. Coty cosmetics shareholders actually sued coty bc they overpaid for kylie cosmetics and they claimed that coty didn't do the proper verification processes to evaluate the worth of kylies brand. They ended up not going forward with the lawsuit idk why exactly probably bc it wasn't financially beneficial.

i think what Kylie would do to her brand is to step down a bit as you said. Because she is the face of her brand, her brand is only trendy because she is trendy.
She isn't a mainstream brand either, i think she did a good step by following tiktok brands and i think if she focused more into face products (Foundation, concealer,..) she'd take her brand to the next level because i think a brand is really strong only if they have a go-to product and lip products aren't necesserly a good rely-on because how many lipsticks do u finsih in a year vs foundation or a skin everyday product.
If she stepped out of being just a "trendy brand of 2014/15/16" and changed her damn pink packaging that makes it look like kids makeup (her old black packaging was better) maybe she'd make her brand stand out.

I think she can recreate the hype that she had in 2016/2017 but with eyelashes like now everyone use fake eyelashes if she releases a good quality mascara and eyelashes in three different colors like the Normal black , and she can do brown and ginger colors because there’s people who have light brown eyelashes and this people don’t have many options , she could use the 2000s aesthetic that is doing a comeback now in the fashion and promote and do a rebrand of her old lipsticks with this aesthetic , she definitely could be more inclusive when it comes to her products likes her blush the colors that she released don’t work to well in dark skin she can release a orange shade for dark skin, and do a collaboration with some show like if the people could say this is the palet that they used in this serie , the people could associate the brand without only thinking in Kylie

her makeup used to be super fun like all the fun lip colors & eyeshadows she had were always fun to watch her reveal on her snapchat but now everything she releases is the same & plus the hype for makeup in the beauty community hit its peak before the pandemic, obviously that slowed makeup production & with people losing their jobs, they’re not gonna drop hundreds of dollars on makeup ya know, and once u miss a makeup collection, you kinda lose the motivation to keep collecting so idk, i know she tried rebranding last year but the one thing she didn’t change was the lips on her packaging which IMO is the most outdated part of it, she’s just kinda losing relevancy in that department
