The battery point is interesting. I recently shot a marathon all day, 2000 frames and still had a 1/4 battery left. I use the grip with 2 batteries but only used one with 1/4 life left over. I wonder what I am doing different than others who have much lower battery life. I think the AF is different than other manufactures. If someone is coming from Canon, Sony and Fuji, and they are not use to Nikon, then yes I understand the issue. All this to also say, I have only used FW1.4 and I also own a Z9. Loving both.
I wrote to nikon technical support about a problem with autofocus when using a timer to take pictures of myself. Nikon employees recognized the problem, but I don’t know if they will solve it. For me, this is a significant drawback, I turned on the timer on fujifilm, moved away and the camera caught me very good, on nikon z6 the focus remains in the same place. It's sad that a professional camera cannot do such a simple function.
Good review! I am deliberating on whether or not to upgrade form a D750… autofocus and image stabilization are the reasons but I think I will wait for the Exsped 7 to trickle down to the Z6 / Z7… too much love for the Z9’s autofocus and too many consistent mentions about the current camera autofocus being good but… Thank you!
@@CrisConstantin I did get the Z6II and love it… major upgrade over the D750. I agree that the eye autofocus / face detection could be improved and I would love to see an update but the area focus modes do the trick when it does not pick up the eye.
@@pelephotography How long have you had it for? It took me a while to get used to it because of my indecision over which auto focus mode to use and because of the change in the button layout.
I've had my z6 II almost a year now and I love it. I had the d750 before this for a year and a half. I had an accident with it at the beach Christmas week in 2020. A wave hit me and the camera after it hit a rock and splashed up. My extended warrant covered it and I got a check for what I paid for it. I took a chance and upgraded to the z6 II. The camera is more than just the camera. You know the saying that when you buy a camera you're buying into their eco system? The z series is a whole new eco system that work great together. Nikon has the shallowest phlange distance of all the mirrorless cameras. This means that everyone else's lenses can be adapted. But it allowed Nikon to redesign their lenses to correct light inn a way they never could before. They have some of sharpest lenses of anyone. There's little to no chromatic aberration or focus breathing. The onus is probably the best of any out there especially when using the z glass. I'm going the next firmware update takes this camera to a higher level. I know it won't do what the z9 can do but it has 2 processors so it can do a lot more than what it's doing now. Nikon is steadily adding new lenses to go with this system. I'm glad I made the change and I can't wait to see what the z6 III and z7 III will have in them. Hopefully both will have stacked websites so there will be no more screen blackout when shooting in burst mode.
Hi Cris! Which lenses would you recommend for the Z6II for 1.) family pics at home in the appartement, for example at christmas or home parties ... and which for 2.) walkings or trips through nature and over mountains ... and which for 3.) going through a city and make pictures of streets and houses? Thanks for your advice! =)
Love when people know to ask the right question👍, so for everything else than inside 24-120 S it’s gonna do a super job. You can use it inside obviously but the aperture is not very wide so you’ll need to crank the iso more, especially for parties and celebration when light is dimmer. For inside I’ll recommend the Viltrox 24mm f1.8z. Use it and love it. Or the Nikon version if you feel like spending of you hate 3rd party lenses. Also the 35 f1.8 S is an awesome lens and I believe Viltrox has one as well. But 24-120 f4 will be your best lens for outdoors for for sure. Nice sharp and pretty small for the focal range. I hope I’ll be able to test it here but in the mean time you can watch a few videos to see how excited people are about this zoom. Thanks for watching and let us know what you got👍😁
@@CrisConstantin I was going to recommend that lens as well. The z6 II handles high ISO so well that I don't think it will be an issue using it indoors. I've taken many indoor pictures at ISO 10,000 with no problem. Lightroom cleans up the noise well and topaz labs has denoise AI that works fantastic on noise.
@@CrisConstantin i just ordered the z6ii. I love the colors and also dont want my work to look like a canon or sony image since 80% of ppl are using them for work. But the video footage on TH-cam doesnt look too great. Your videos look awesome and maybe 2 other channels. Whats your take on video footage for the z6ii?… is the zfc better?
Thanks man. For TH-cam i found the zfc better in af. Lol I know. But the colors are pretty much similar to the point when you can shoot in a profile and match them both. My correction is minimal but I like the look. You can basically match the look with other cams but needs a bit more tweaking 👍
Hello Cris ! Can you recommend a lens for newborn pictures / babies and family pictures shot mostly in studio ? Outside sometimes … i recently bought the z6 ii and i am trying to figure it out . Thank you in advance and have a great week !
Hey, if you need something versatile in “one lens does it all” the 24-70 f2.8 S or sigma 24-70 are great options. You can pair it later with a 70-200 and you have the best setup for portraits and family shots. Now, it all depends on your style, if you like more shallow depth of field and smooth bokeh I’d say the 85 and 35 1.8 will do a great job as well. But they are obviously less versatile/limited in terms of focal length. If you just started the 24-120 f4 is an all in one solution for studio and outdoors, but the aperture is not super wide so don’t expect obliterated backgrounds at lower focal length. Hope that helped and happy to have you on board. 👍👊
I have some questions for you and I would love a fair answer from you, as your customer it is my right to know why .. 1. Why is it impossible for any Nikon camera to record video on 2 cards at the same time? 2. Why do Nikon cameras lose themselves as soon as I try to shoot in complete darkness - because the focus does not find itself? 3. Why only with the flagship camera can you record 10-bit internal video while the other companies allow it with much cheaper cameras as well? 4. Why not put out a compatible flash for your mirrorless cameras with a built-in green laser - which will probably improve the focus system of your mirrorless cameras? 5. Why does your camera not have a smart hot show, while the rest of the companies have all put this option on their cameras (and it has improved the sound quality miraculously), just mentioning that I request it net because even the best microphone in the world that I connect to your cameras will sound like it Toy microphone - and all because of a bad amplifier that causes unexplained background noise? 6. As a company that strives to enter more strongly into the world of video and film, why to this day do you not have professional video functions in your cameras (such as: anamorphic, test field, customizable aspect ratio, false color, histogram, marker color, RGB histogram, markers Screen, bottom scan, vectorscope)? 7. Why does not even your mirrorless camera have an articulated screen, after all you always said that you build cameras that are also suitable for content creators - and probably without an articulated screen it is not relevant (I must point out that the Nikon Z9 screen is not built comfortably enough)? 8. Why every camera you take out is always limited in the end while recording the maximum video that even in your flag is 125 minutes and in a Nikon Z6II and Z7II camera the limit is 30 minutes, what is the point of this why every time you limit, you will understand videographers do not like a limit Time - Give us unlimited and not necessarily the highest quality even in 1080P we would be very happy? 9. Why is your maximum flash sync speed in mirrorless cameras at 1/200 Second when the norm in the DSLR world so far has been at least 1/250? 10. Why does connecting the camera to a smartphone take so long every time, while I bought an extreme camera for $ 200 two days ago that connects faster, and the connection is without connection problems, and by the way you can control just about every possible setting on the camera and there are lots? 11. Why on non-Nikon Z9 cameras did you not add the option in the settings that as soon as I turn off the camera the mechanical shutter closes which will protect the sensor from dust? And please in the next camera do as in the Nikon Z5 and Nikon Z9 that come with the same cards and not 2 different slots, it just creates a mess. I would love a detailed answer to my question and a full reference, as I will be posting these things publicly to everyone - so that photographers know if you as a company want to get better or if you are just looking to rebuild your relationship with the world of photography.
I am not criticizing anything. I just want you the viewers to know what to expect. My style, needs and expectations are different than yours and what works for me might not work for others. Trying to be as transparent as humanly possible, so you get the truth not the paid version.😉
