One-track mind, ironically. It's the same reason a driver will see someone waiting to turn left and will go around them...on the left, and are surprised when they're hit. They aren’t thinking of the consequences; they're impatient and they gotta get where they're going.
Once again, some great vintage Rolling-stock catches, thanks VRF - Passenger & Freight. Possibly 'Darwin Candidate' is too good a description for the Track-hopping, Track Ballast-for-Brains young person at Flagstaff?
Amtrak has canceled trains Chicago to Detroit both ways because of weather (sleet/freezing rain) 1/21/24 and 1/22/24. Area of concern is SW lower Michigan
Brings to mind the HO scale passenger cars Athearn used to make, they had a round roof coach but only a clerestory roof baggage car; so to make a car like that one it was necessary to get whichever body you didn't have so as to put the coach's round roof on the baggage car.
Crossing a railroad while on is bad cuz you dont know when the trains approaching. Because in the uk we have crossings but if they jump over while down they get fined £1000! But anything like running on a red light when activated is called a misuse. Its really common for them both here. And also trains dont horn before the crossing
The railroads could solve the problem & save themselves a lot of delays if they would put a simple DO NOT ENTER or a crosshatched reflective traffic sign in between the tracks on each side of the crossing. Just think of the trouble it would save at Ashland VA alone.
How do people keep turning onto the tracks? How dumb do you have to be to not notice you’re in the middle of a railroad crossing? They need to put in place harsh penalties for dumb drivers. If they’re not smart enough to drive properly then they shouldn’t be on the roads.

I think I saw someone say this before and I agree with them that the crossing in Ft Madison needs to be rebuilt. Too many vehicles getting stuck.
It needs simple road maintenance during storms. The roads surface is not clear. A little sand goes a long way.
Plow blades must be lifted at grade crossings so snow isn't packed in the flangeways, has NOTHING to do with maintenance. The incline is the reason people get stuck.
I'll bet it's the classic, state maintenance vs railroad responsibility.
