Man, yet another example at how no matter you try to polish 06, as long as you're keeping its fundamentals, the game is still slow and boring. I'll stick with the actual Adventure titles, thanks.
This is why I wish, even though it's a ton more work, we would see more original concepts or at least stage design. Every 3D sonic has different movement quirks and it's never going to feel right putting a level from a different game in.

@@RandomAnimeGamer not exactly about that. Soníc feels dynamic to move in p06 , very agile and all, but is not that fast on his physics, specially with the snowboard
@@randomboxproductions3261 On the snowboard you're supposed to basically spam square, hold forward a ton, and do a bunch of tricks. Turning should be minimal. Outside of the snow board, take advantage of the rolling physics and blue gem where you're able to. Remember you can gain momentum when you have a lot of air time by doing a bounce --> air dash together.
Anyone who thinks Sonic going fast is anything beyond marketing doesn't understand Sonic. He has been and should always be a momentum based platformer first, speedy second. Unleashed struck a healthy balance, but most Sonic games nowadays (Colors, Generations, Forces, 4, Superstars) are made to shoot you in straight lines because "haha go fast brrrrrr"
@@RandomAnimeGamerSega wants people to like the games so they get their development money back, and many still say "Sonic was never good because they want you to go fast but then make you do platforming" so it's understandable they tried to mitigate the "issue". Personally I love the boost gameplay, as just like open world Zelda or 3D Kirby it's not the same gameplay as most of the series but it's a different take on the same formula which has its own pluses and minuses. Even Forces had exploration for red rings and hidden powerups in the walls like the classics, so it's not fair to call any game "boost to win" but I do hope the Frontiers sequel gets rid of the boost as it was too long since we had a change of pace.
@@genyakozlov1316 At least that's a reasonable take, though I disagree when the only content that requires you to not just hold forward and boost is optional, tedious, and slower than most sonic games with barely any platforming.
Gorsh, look at that intestinal level design. You run in a straight line trying to hit as many point modifiers as possible, only finding any offshoot areas in bonus missions, like returning to past levels with the Wisps in Colours to get any exploration out of them. No ability for self expression by finding your own path through the level, only a rank on how well you ran the linear track in front of you. Truly peak of "Adventure" gameplay SA2 is. I get more exploration out of Classic stages in Forces than this game. Not to mention this game started the whole "make the next boss the copy of the previous" with Flying Dog being a legless Hot Shot, which Unleashed took further by only having one daytime boss it reused two times, and Colours even further by putting the same two hit dying boss from the first world in the fourth one.
That's the Project 06 Engine's fault. In Vanilla SA2, tricks are actually accurate, Sonic doesn't need to keep kicking to speed up while sliding, grinding actually requires skill instead of being a glorified cutscene, and the truck isn't going just 10mph/16kmph. Comparing SA2's ranking system to Colors proves you don't understand them at all. In Colors there are places you outright can't get to until you've gotten wisps in later levels, and some of their S-ranks are just abusing color bonuses, like going around in circles with Drill or waiting for it to run out like with Spikes. In SA2 an experienced player on a new file can go through each stage and get A-ranks just fine. If you want to play a game where you almost never have to actually try to be good to get top ranks, Shadow, Generations and Forces have you covered. As for bosses, SA1 is MUCH more egregious at repeating them. Chaos 4 is fought 3 times, Chaos 6 2 times, all except the last 2 in Gamma's story are exactly the same, and the character fights are done in 5 seconds.
You do realize this level was made for another game with different physics and design Of course it doesn't feel as fast as the original The SA2 levels aren't designed for 06 physics
It also shows how much worse 06 is with the Adventure Formula with it’s heavier emphasis on platforming and combat. The board is just not as fast or as exciting in 06 compared to the Adventure Games with how cluttered the level design was with White Acropolis.
