I’ll be all set when I take this task on in the fall. Great job in your explanation and providing all the socket and wrench sizes for the critical areas. Thanks.
You are most welcome Xander! Thank you for being a long time Subscriber of the channel! Let me know if you have any questions when doing the repair. I am happy you found my video beneficial with your repair. Thanks for watching!
Great video and thanks a ton for the advice, but just so everyone is aware that is watching this if you have a 4wd model the front dif makes things real interesting.
You are most welcome Tyler I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and found it to be beneficial! You are 100% correct that front diff makes The repair quite difficult With the four-wheel drive model
Nope, everything I had to do I put into the video. Follow the video and you will have it knocked out in no time! Let me know if you have any other questions.
After disconnecting everything you can remove the rack and pinion out the side of the vehicle. Just move it to the side until it is free from anything stopping it and ease it out. It is like a big game of Tetris
Hey man, so my driver wheel is tweaked in, passenger normal.. my inner tie is bad on driver.. lower control arms and wheel bearing look fine. Should I replace both side lower/upper/sway bar etc? On a 2012 xterra
Sellthoseflippingcars ok I swapped the sway bar end links, going to do the tie rods later today, and see if that fixes my tweaked steering. Do I need to be worried at all about the rack and pinion itself? It has zero play in it when I pull on the tie rods.. also the steering wheel locked itself, do I still need to tie it down?
No no don't worry about it just remember to count the threads of the outer tie rod when you go to take it off. That will help you keep a good alignment.
Sellthoseflippingcars cool thanks man, once I get those swapped then I’ve got an add a leaf to throw on the back Suspension to raise up the back end, hopefully it gives me an inch or two lift as well. I found the parts on amazon, Detroit axle.. ever used or know anything about this brand? Hopefully they are a decent quality product
once you complete all the steps that I did in video, you will then pass the rack and pinion assembly thru the wheel well. My apologies i didnt have an extra set of hands on this project to help me with camera work and my tripod was busted. When removing old assembly, you will have to spin it while pulling it out, just so the attachments on the assembly dont get caught on wheel well. Thanks for watching!
I have a question after i replace rack and pinion with everything back as i took it out now the dtc and slip are on when i drive the car about quarter a mile then they come out car runs good and all but what can it be for the lights of dtc and slip?
Fixing to be doing a 2005 murano the steering wheel when you turn it at a certain it’s feels stripped the steering wheel turns and not the wheels on one certain spot is that the rack?
Yes David that does sound like the rack and pinion is on its way out. I would double check the steering column as well just because the rack and pinion is a nice size job. Follow the steering column along after the firewall, you will run into a steering knuckle. Make sure the steering column is still tight at this steering knuckle. You will also see a couple clamps held on with bolts on the steering column double check the tightness of those. If all of these are okay then it is your rack and pinion that has failed.
@@Sellthoseflippingcars I didn’t have no one to turn the steering wheel so I could see if anything was funky on it. I started taking the tie rods loose. I will check if those bolts our loose. That would be amazing if they was. Got it from this woman who ran it into a ditch I don’t know when she did that she jerked it loose or what. Didn’t hurt the front but banged up the back .. had to get a new hatch for it. Now it’s way off cause the body on the right rear bumper is pushed down. I really appreciate you replying back!! Don’t have anyone or friends for advice
You are most welcome David! Message me anytime you have problems with your vehicle I don't mind bro. Also let me know this what you find on a positive note if it does need a rack and pinion then no worries. This is a common component that needs replaced overtime to keep your steering Tip-Top. Also you are saving yourself hundreds of dollars doing it yourself
@@Sellthoseflippingcars thanks. I doing one today on a 2 wheel drive exterra. I can’t find the video for one so I watched yours. Hopefully it’s similar.
@@Sellthoseflippingcars good deal. So I assume that once the rack and pinion is unbolted and disconnected it will slide out on the drivers side correct?
Was gonna come here and get angry that you left out how to pull out the rack but it's my fault because I have the 4wd and didn't read the comments first haha

What makes it harder for the 4wd? Curious cause im about to do this job.

This guy did a great job of explaining thank you
Thank you David!! I am glad you enjoyed the episode and found it beneficial!
Great video but you skipped the part where you actually remove the rack. I can't get mine out and I needed that piece
It comes out thru the driver side wheel well
Ok, why TF did you skip the actual separation of the steering shaft from the rack ? There is a lot involved there, I dont get it.
This was one of my earlier videos but definitely something to add into the next video. Thank you for watching!
Liked....bout to tackle this in an 05 xterra....you didnt have to drop the front diff or driver side shock?

@@Sellthoseflippingcars had to drop the diff partially on a 4wd 05 xterra. Was yours a rear wheel drive?
yes mine was a rear wheel drive
Perfect day to work on a car lol
lol I sure do pick the great days to do work lol
I can't get the pinch bolt or to the bolts for the lines at all
Use a swivel extension to get in that tight spot
Hpw did you get it out? ive got my final drive dropped down and still cant get it out. Mine is RHD so slightly different but it wont budge.

Good job 👏🏻

What is the plastic piece called by the pinch bolt on the shaft? Mine was destroyed and now I need to replace it but can't find it anywhere.
Its a plastic spacer
Where and how much did u pay for the rack and pinion?
I put the rack and pinion link in the video description, under parts used in video. It is from Amazon and is working great still!

The lights have came on due to hardware being changed. Have they went off yet?
No they have not
I plug a scanner in it says the sensors of the steering angle sensor circuit.
@@Sellthoseflippingcars i am assuming the sensors need to be replaced maybe they got touch or something
You can reset those if you have the correct diagnostic reader the steering angle sensor that is

The rack and pinion comes out the wheel well, were you wanting to see that? Just guide it thru while making sure u dont catch the vent tube.
Bad video, didn't show actual removal
What problem are you having? When removing from driver side, rotate the assembly while removing
