Finally figured the wiring & got my swap fully working with TED thanks to your vid!!! Not sure how to upload wiring diagram for others that asked but now have it (1st attempt at diagram, little rough, but it matches what Nick & I did)

just a couple tips for the next set you do, you can unplug the harness from the seat and i find that a lot easier to be able to strip the wires you dont need and untangle it on the bench and second tip would be careful using all those butt connectors, i'd recommend you solder and heat shrink the wires especially with those crimpers you are using, those are a big no no for automotive wiring probably the worst crimper i see people using, theyre meant for solid copper wires you see on buildings, ive seen them fail plenty of times not being solid copper wires and they can slide out the butt contectors. the crimpers only pushing in on one little spot rather then grabbing the whole wire with the terminal connector. ill post a link of one i'd recommend using. one of the big no no's i see if your feeding all the high current through the dash to the switches then thru the floor of the truck to power the heated and cooled when you could be using tiny low current trigger wires to control the heated and cooled functions and source you main power wires from some where else, i'd reccomend a secondary after market fuse block. if you see the amperage it pulls i'd recommend you bump up the wire size to at least 14 gauge from that smaller wire your using to handle that current load your pulling, and i wouldnt recommend piggy backing of the factory harnesses for main power source, the fuse boxes especially the 02-07s they arent designed to carry that type of current for long periods of time and basically you could be over loading the fuse box. i'd ditch using any of the factory stuff, its was mainly designed for just move the seat around and heat which doesnt take much power. what i can see happening since you have big power wires running through out the whole truck is just takes on of those wires to slip out the terminals anywhere on the truck and then you flip the switch and it short out on something and being a big power wire you raise the chance of a possible fire tremendously thats why you should re think the way you have it wire up so you have more low current wires to control everything, solder and heat shrink wires and use the correct crimper on terminals. heres the link to a automotive wire crimper i use, www.amazon.com/Titan-Tools-11477-Ratcheting-Insulated/dp/B0069TRKJ0/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=automotive+crimpers&qid=1631136179&sr=8-6

I was waiting for this comment I do this for fun don’t have time to charge people to do it but I have been around the automotive industry over 20 years and have been trained by a few places on wiring including Bmw I’m very familiar with soldering but choose not to use because it’s time consuming and messy
Also the crimpers I use are from snap on and I have been using this style crimp for many years with no failure I also use shrink boot ones for anything outside the vehicle
Lastly if you watch the video there is an added ignition power to run the heat n cooled and I know wire gauge well and trust me it’s plenty
I’m well aware of what the factory fuse box can handle I’ve changed many melted ones in tow trucks I’ve worked on

    • @zacharymcfarlin1270
      @zacharymcfarlin1270 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@nickmiddleton218 hey man nothing wrong with Do it your self guys!! that's why we do these projects, theyre fun... sometimes. just because you've been in this industry for 20 years and work on tow trucks doesnt mean you can't teach a old dog new tricks. im just trying to help you out man and give you some pointers on things i've learned doing dozens of these seats over the years, i've never had any tech schooling or even worked in the automotive industry before i got into these trucks, just self taught myself and i'm still learning stuff all the time and finding new tools to help make the job easier
another one is just because those crimpers are from Snap-On doesnt mean theyre the right tool for the job, if your a Snap-On man then i'd recommend the Snap-On Version of the exact same Crimper i use. ill post a link for you and see if your Snap-On Truck can get you one, you wont regret it. shop.snapon.com/categories/Ratcheting-Crimpers/683215
then in your Video it looks like your using maybe 16 gauge... when you should be running wire that is rated for 30 amps. im sure that 16 would be maybe okay but risky but i bet your robbing the TED of its full potential and i bet those wires get warm if not hot after a while of run time, i was just saying i'd recommend you bump it up to at least 14 if not 12 gauge wire that is rated to handle that current load.
then if you watch the video you'll see you didn't explain anything for the incoming power wires all you said is " i have my own ground, my own heat and my own cool wire" you never mentioned anything about adding a ignition power wire. not sure what that even entails, are you running own power wires from the battery to relay that its triggered on with an ignition wire and allows the 12v to run to your switch then to the seats? or are you just taking power into a Ignition wire behind on the factory fuse box therefore piggy backing off the factory wiring that wasn't designed for those heated and cooled seats?

Great job! I'm trying to follow your video right now to rewire seats to install in an OBS. One thing is not clear, the wiring on the SPST relay. Its actually hard to see whats going on there. Any chance you could give me more detail about that? I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Awesome information! Thanks for doing this :) Do you have any ideas on how to control the heat (High/Med/Low) or fan speeds on the cooling? I just got seats from a 2012 F350, putting them into a 97 F350 Crew. I would love to have the heating and cooling work they way they are supposed to...

Do you have to use the relays I’m trying to do this in a ram I got the seats to move with a battery but trying to get the other stuff to turn on and no one makes videos about it I would just think if there’s 12v runing to a switch and still use the seat module
Would like to get factory buttons to work but that’s after I can get them to work

I know this is a bit older now, but hopefully you can help me. So the heater portion of these blower/heater units have 4 wires going to them. I seem to only get a current draw and heat when using the outside 2 on the coil. Are the other two even used for anything?
And for cooling, it’s just the blower on right? Thanks for the video! Helping a lot!!

Nick. This is awesome! Looks different/more detailed than the one you had posted thru your old shop a year or more ago (better view of relays). Hope things are going great now that you have your own shop.
As previous commenter said, would love to see what kind of toggle switch you used (just 2 way, hot, off, cold - or multi click/stage 4 each)
Sure you don't remember bout a year ago, but tracked you down from old shop & was trying to see if you'd ever written out a diagram 4 both switches. Hoping with a bit of help & this vid showing the relays clearer I can get the heat/cool working as well
    (Mine is a '12 MKS swap to '02 4Runner)
    Thanks 4 posting!
