  • @SuperballsSupervidsOnYT

They both sound really nice. I think in most cases the SDs edge out the Toneriders, but we are talking an Amazing vs Spectacular type of comparison, as in the ToneRiders would be a nice QLED TV and the SDs are a nice OLED, would be thankful to have either.
This is just after I ordered a set of ToneRiders, and I would like nothing more than to speak through some form of purchase bias.
With no accompaniment, there is definitely a perceptible difference, but once there is a backing track, they are both beautiful. I've been listening with the screen scrolled up to hide the pickup ID in the upper right of the screen and a lot of the time they are indiscernible.

    Both superb sounding!
If I would want a sharp, slightly more aggressive tone with brightness- the SD 59!
For a melower, sweeter tone, but enough clarity - the Tonerider IV!
I already have the AC2 (Alnico II) set in my LP type, and am more then happy. They should sound similar to the AC4 but even a tad sweeter, with less compression.

Makes a huge difference. Clean blues tones are so much more articulate and clear.

The ToneRiders aint no cheap build. More affordable maybe.
      But i like Duncans too.

@@rgbplumbinghilton sure, i bet if they fit for the style one want, you cant go much wrong. The Seymour Duncans are fine and dandy. Tried and true.
I have collected a few of the T-Riders, and are getting a few more (for a tele also) - but i came to look how maybe some of em fair/compare/differ against the JB (bridge) - and i really like that one.
Couldnt find that many good comparisons.
But it is a smörgåsbord of great opportunities with all of these pups.
      Mix & match to taste.

the issue with these tests is the pickups may have different magnet types or OHMs resistance... then the tester youtuber keeps all variables the same when the amp was not driven enough for the lower hotness pickup to breakup equally or have equal amplification

@@Notinserviceij Guitars were clean when the Les Paul originally came into existence. Not every day needs to be a shred dirt fest if you can't play clean your hiding behind a bunch of dirt! Obviously your not a studio session player either. Les Paul himself played his Guitar CLEAN! ALL THE TIME 🤔

@@Notinserviceij Offended ? I am not offended at all? I play Dirty myself 50% of the time ! I play D style amplifiers it's a good kind of dirt not your typical neo classical shred stuff . Just simply saying it's a more interesting demo when you can do it all! Clean, dirty and in between! I been playing for 50 years heard alot of cool guitars and guitarists over those years many styles in approach of techniques have evolved you know. From Wes Montgomery to Alan Holdsworth to Stanley Jordan, Jan Akkerman, Joe Satriani, of course Eddie Van halen, Clapton, Jeff Beck, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Jamie Glaser, Greg Howe, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Steve Lukather, Bill Conners, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Michael Lee Firkins, George Lynch, Ryan Cooder, Sonny Landreth , Derek Trucks , Duane Allman, Steve Ray Vaughn, it's a very vast and interesting world out there just to name a few ! I am not running anyone's music down at all or talent !

SD sounds 2% clearer on highs, more bite, very, very close - would put the SD in as PUP replacement.

Duncan is darker than Tonerider Alnico IV and have alnico V in them.
Tonerider have more "woodier" feeling more vitnage:e.
Tonerider is also more articulate in neck position and not as woolie as Duncan...
Those qualities does not show in this video as good but once you are infront of the amp and listen then you notice much bigger difference...

I use Toneriders more than ten years. Their A4 bridge is the best PAF I tryed. Never liked any SD pickup, they sound steryle to me. Chinese Donlis pickups are much cheaper, but the same level of quality, especially A2 PAF-s, and their version of Super Distortion (18$), the only ceramic pickup I like.
