I get the feeling he might be splitting his signal between the Leslie in the rear left, and that Marshall Stack. I've not gotten an organ to break up like that through just a Leslie. He is as rhythmically as funky as any organist I know. Just friggin' greasy.
loved Jimmy McGriff's playing since I was a teen...had much influence on my own Hammond organ playing...got to see him perform at Dimitrios Jazz Alley in Seattle several times with Hank Crawford and had a chat with him at break time...this was in the early '90's...when I lived out there '88-'98...

The Hammond B3 is legendary and JIMMY SMITH owned it. But JIMMY McGRIFF is in its own different league when it comes to funky. JIMMY McGRIFF is my all-time fav when jazz meets soul/funk, this man can play those funky keys on the Hammond like no one else could or can!!!

Those European Hammonds break up and distort really great! It's the 220 volt thing. Same for the Procol Harum records---great grinding sounds!
