I buy eggs from local farmers I know as much as possible - it's easy to do in the Farmer's Market season -- but I wonder if it will be harder this coming season with bird flu causing issues. The local farmers I know allow their chickens to graze the property so they are truly "pasture-raised" and "free-range" and all of that.
I've had chickens most of my adult life and was raised on a dairy farm, and my mom kept chickens. Chickens are dinosaurs, snakes with feathers. I've seen my chickens eat snakes, frogs, crawdads, mice, and all forms of insects and worms. They eat grass, berries and all forms of vegetables from my garden. My healthiest eggs are when my elderberries ripen, and the chickens eat all low hanging fruit on the bushes.
Hi Autumn- Thanks these great tips on buying eggs! When I lived overseas, eggs in the shop weren’t washed and weren’t refrigerated 👍. I prep hard boiled eggs to just add on to meals for a little protein boost, almost like a condiment 😂. Thanks for your advice! I look forward to your Tuesday/Thursday post 😊❤❤❤
I buy Vital Farms eggs at Natural Grocers every week --they're the best! Deep orange yolks, happy chickens who get to eat bugs and forage! I'd like to know why it's in the thumbnail too?
Thank you Autumn! This was such a helpful video. I’ll be honest I was nervous to watch because I thought I would find out I have to buy crazy expensive eggs.😂But it was the complete opposite! I usually get eggs from a friend but when those aren’t available it is so nice to have this information to help me know what to buy. Brown eggs aren’t any healthier than white.!🤯 Thanks for all of your videos and I always appreciate your balanced approach to what you share. I know this is a business for you but it’s clear you truly care about people and their wellbeing. Keep up the good work!
I think the brown egg vs white egg partly comes because years ago there was a commercial campaign "brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh!" I can still bear the song in my head 😂 so I grew up believing brown to be superior!
Thank you addressing the subject of eggs - especially regarding labeling. A suggestion- please address effect of avian flu on the availability of ANY eggs. My experience these past few weeks shopping at Whole Foods and Fred Meyer (Kroger) is shelf was down to 10-20% inventory. Planned to purchase at farmers’ market but sold out early. What to do ? Is there a strategy during this time.
I love eating eggs , but I just read that eating more than 3 eggs a week increases your colorectal cancer chances. What are your thoughts on this?? I always think I’m going the right thing, but then find out they could be wrong!😫
Things have gotten to a point where you can find research or sources that can demonize any food. Countless people in the world eat eggs and live till their 90’s. If it agrees with your body then keep eating it.
The egg color is based on the earlobe of the chicken. There is one consideration for thinking about egg color. When living in an area that predominantly has white or brown eggs might suggest locality. Then buying the opposite may suggest they are not local.
I use to always say my chickens are free ranged. Then some technical nerd told me that free range just means the chickens have a window. That they are still caged but get natural light. Technical nerd told me that when labeled pasture raised means they do get to go outside. BUT that possibly means they are still fenced in. If there is any possible way to raise your own chickens and buying your feed from a local farm food mill is best. Animal feed from chain stores like TS have been known to sell bad feed. Or just try to find someone local that has chickens and would love to sell you eggs. ❤🐓🥚🍳
@ go look at videos of chickens in cages or in a barn where it’s always dark and they eat and or attack each other because they are so stressed out and are in terrible condition . Oh wait someone who made that comment wouldn’t comprehend empathy or be intelligent enough to understand what I’m saying so I know you won’t

I have found “ regenerative farmed” chicken eggs. They’re a little pricey, but taste great. And I like to support small regenerative farmers!
Very interesting and helpful. Thank you Autumn for educational content. I hope you are feeling well and over your cold. Laura

Thanks autumn!
Thanks, Autumn! I love all the education you share around nutrition!
When I was in New Zealand last year, at the grocery store I noticed that all the eggs are kept on a shelf, not refrigerated.

Hi Autumn. You showcase Vital Farms in your thumbnail. Is there a reason why?🤔🥚

@ Vital Farms are the only eggs I buy. I hope she’s responds.

I think the reason some people prefer vegetarian fed chickens is because some people believe baby male chicks are ground up and added to the feed.
Vitamin B1 calms the anxiety down. 50-100mg daily
1:26 So far you and I are on the same page. These are what I do every time. I still like brown eggs though.

I just bought large 18 pack at Walmart $7.
Where do you live? Our Walmart sells a dozen for $10.
He wanted to try those daily gems, but they don’t tell you how many milligrams, etc. in the vitamins😊
I’m lucky enough to get my eggs from Angel Acres.

I am confused. If you have chickens why are you buying eggs ???
The chickens may not yet be laying enough for what she needs
Oh…thank you !!
Buy free range !!!!, caged eggs are cruel
Eggs from pasture raised chickens are even better 🥰
