    Once you get further into Astro Bot, it gets bigger, harder, has more stuff. The beginning is fun for the 'family/kids' that it's marketed towards - but it keeps ramping up.

    There are a number of games in the "factory sim" category. I've not touched Factorio or Satisfactory yet, but there's also "The Riftbreaker", "Mindustry", and the Early Access "Desynced", which are both slimmer factory games (inasmuch as they're not as complicated with all their mixing and tiers of construction) that are fun. Desynced also has a scripting system for custom operations of all the factories and worker bots that I've only scratched the surface of due to being rather out of practice with programming.

    Good show guys, you always bring a unique take on things. I was considering a PS5 pro to kick my PS5 out into my home theater setup and use it as a family 4K bluray player (and continue to nudge my newly retired dad towards gaming)- it would be a step up over our old Xbox we use now. But I don't think it would be enough of a step up for me to justify $880 in the pro (base console + disc drive for a few dozen existing games + tax in California). I really was expecting a $500 box with a drop in price to the base PS5.
    Oh well, I have a 4K OLED tv/monitor for both my PS5 and my high end PC, and I don't think the PS5 is missing much compared to a PC - at least at the distance I sit from my TV. I notice some lag in performance mode every now and then in my games. But none of that bothers me enough that I feel like spending $900 to rectify it when I have a perfectly good PC in the other room.
    The whole disc drive kerfuffle has me curious how Sony is going to handle the licensing for disc based games in the long term. Sony seems like they are increasingly pushing us consumers away from the disc to the point where I have to wonder if the PS6/7 are going to have disc drives (I bought one physical game earlier in the year, but I'm planning to just go digital for Astrobot). But at the same time they have backwards compatibility probably going back to the PS4 from now on. At some point, it seems probable I will want to play Neir Automata (which I paid full price for the PS4 disc when it came out) and I won't have a way to put that disc into my console to let it know I own the game, even though I can have the full game installed on my machine. Knowing Sony I wouldn't be surprised if they just expect us to re-buy all our older disc based games over again on their digital storefront, but I really, really hope they have some better plan. If it were me, I'd push an update the the PS4/5 at some point that lets you read the license key from your disc and link it to your account as if you'd purchased the game digitally so you don't need to use the disc anymore. That's pretty much the first thing every console jailbreak firmware does. Granted, this makes piracy super duper easy, but by the time a PS6 comes out the last PS4 physical releases will probably be at least a few years old and hopefully not the highest priority targets for pirates. IDK, this is all just food for thought that I had been mulling for a but anyways, but watching disc drives sell out in anticipation of the PS5 pro really brings it to the fore for me.

      Hey James - thank you! And yeah, there has to be a "key" conversation down the line of how discs are going to transfer to digital licenses. Even optional, I just don't see the global push away from discs for quite a while yet despite being a minority.

    I completely agree on Travis about layoff and I don’t think is a weird take. Everyone purely looking at it as negative and it is but if you are qualified person, it is a free money…I left before merger announced from my company and everyone wanted to get layoff package and move on. One of my friend bought a car and found another job, my manager beg them to fired her because she was working there +10 year so she would get lots of money…

      It can definitely be a net-positive for the industry and the for the people involved. But it doesn't come without stress and troubled times as well. Always a balance! Goes without saying we wish all developers impacted the best.

    havent watched this all yet. but regarding ps5 pro i'm seeing all these "its totally not worth it" or "its totally worht it" takes but very few people actually say, "i'll wait until i see some DF comparisons to evaluate the worth of this machine and the price." that's my view.

    *Really* technical, I know, but the whole Asus ROG product line (started with motherboards, actually) is an acronym and IS spelled aloud as aR Oh Gee. Republic of Gamers.

    I feel like... the PS5 Pro price accurately reflects its hardware spec and what it purportedly can do, but that it's also somewhat tone deaf and will be a tough pill to swallow for the people who only play on consoles and don't get how much they're "saving" relative to a gaming PC that performs as well. I don't expect *strong* uptake - maybe 10-15%, as Sony anticipates. And I agree with Tom's take (Moore's Law is Dead) that Sony may be price testing for the PS6 as well, which will not be a cheap box with what's going to need to be in it to be a generational upgrade on the 5 Pro.

    • @SeasonedGaming
      @SeasonedGaming  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep - all makes sense in theory. I also think the "build a PC" narrative, which always comes up in these conversations, is often disingenuous.

    • @RayneAngelus

      @@SeasonedGaming Yes. It's not cheap, it's not simple, it can be full of complications and failures that the Console space (usually) isn't. There is still value in consoles, even at $700. It's just a seemingly too-high number, I think, but not as ridiculous as it looks on paper.

    If GTA 6 can run 45-60 fps on the PRO it'll sell VERY well. It's for enthusiasts not the common gamer, just like the $2000 video cards out there that offer only minimal gains over their predecessors.

    Fwiw, i hated Astros Playroom and love Astro Bot. It's nowhere near a "pack in" as Hoeg says.
    Also for the people that complain PS is nothing but sad-dad simulators and want something different, if you don't support a fresh near perfect platformer, well then, you're part of the problem.
