Lord R.M. Buckley operated on a level of genius to which many aspired but few (if any) could equal. His visionary observations continue to resonate more than six decades after the fact. Elated that these observations with his wife and son were documented accordingly.
Thanks to Richard Jr and direct correspondence I now own (almost) all of Lord Buckley’s recordings, plus some classic photographs. I spent ten years and a cross country drive visiting old record shops buying whatever they had of Buckley’s. I named my St Bernard Lord Buckley. Love the guy. Died toooo soon.
Jr. controlled Lord's rights and wouldn't allow a movie to be made of he didn't act the role of his father, disallowing Robin Williams to make the biopic. Bad move. I'd have learned of Buckley long before my 55th yr if Jr. hadn't horded his father's image.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Lady Buckley at the Lord Buckley Memorial Celebration at Chumash Lake put on by The Ineffible Brothers and Friends many years ago. She was amazing, had all the hippies up and out of their tents and doing a workout in her full beatnik gear. It was a real thrill.
Thanks for the background. I thought he was English! I was in a band during the seventies called Spoonfeather and we all loved Lord Buckley! It got to the point where we were all trying our best to talk like him. We listen to his tapes constantly. It brought us all closer as friends. Many years later when I see any of those cats, inevitable Lord Buckley licks will fly! Sweet Double Hipness!
I've listened to a few snippets of Lord recordings, and I just don't get the attraction. He's like the Jackson Pollack of comedy performance, and Pollack was a talentless fraud, as are all "abstract artists". Going to give Lord another hour of listening to see of I find any entertainment value.
Sly Stone began each KSOL show with Lord Buckley......my all time favorite... circa 1966

Extreme Close-up Theater. Might want to watch this from the adjoining room for perspective.

Indeed, I can see every pore on that ghoul's face. Jimmy Glick actually flatters him. What a creep!
I thought extreme closeups made for a personal interview
