Building a WILD Freeride MTB Line | Darren Berrecloth on Vancouver Island

For years, mountain bike films have led to mind-blowing one-off stunts for film features tucked out of the way in British Columbia's forests. Most of these iconic structures are now dilapidated and reclaimed by nature. Darren Berrecloth has built his fair share, but for this new backyard edit, he’s created a series of inspired features along the trails he regularly rides and incorporated them into the flow with his signature riding style.
"I've been wanting to do a shred edit on the trails above my house for quite some time," says Darren. "And I was super stoked to get this opportunity to get out there with Rupert [Walker] and create some unique features and go back to my roots; my blend of BMX and mountain bike, and incorporate that into trail bike riding."
Hailing from Parksville, BC, Canada, Darren Berrecloth has been widely regarded as one of the best freeride mountain bikers in the world, ever since he exploded onto the scene with a third at the 2002 Red Bull Rampage. With a wide range of podium finishes and magazine covers under his belt, Berrecloth is showing no sign of slowing down.
A hard-working athlete who puts lots of effort into building unique bike features, Berrecloth’s dedication to the sport is unmatched in the industry. Known for taking lines that other riders don’t even consider, his success, sheer guts and determination have seen him become something of a legendary figure - even more so since breaking his back in 2011 and returning to competitive riding for 2012.

So it all makes sense.... that's why Berreclaw has some of the best sections ever on MTB videos... he wants to capture the moment and it shows. I can still remember watching his section on ROAM and losing my mind. What a legend.

12 years a go i wachted his ROAM and started riding. Today he is 40 and still riding those big jumps. Legend! 🙌🏼
Back in my riding days I was always the guy seeing the drops/jumps in my mind and going out there and building it into/out of the terrain. I can relate to this sensation

I stumbled upon that first spot @0:21 a few weeks back and could not believe the size of that drop. This makes it look so much smaller than in real life. My heart was racing just standing on the take off. What a legend!

Wow the claw is getting old, I didn't see 1 gnarly 360! I can still remember being a kid and watching him 360 the crankworx road gap in whistler, the first of its kind. Great video and awesome trail Darren!

Great point of view! I think many people are too focused on getting clips that they forget to enjoy riding, but at the same time the footage creates a record of your accomplishments! Keep it up Darren. Loved watching you in The Collective, ROAM, etc. The first full suspension mtb I rode was my older brothers Sx Trail. It cemented my love for the sport for sure.

Shame the huge stuff couldn't be filmed in a way that the viewer can appreciate how huge this stuff is.
The old skool vids like New World Disorder I believe where shot with 70mm. DSLR are also go for large scale video but costly to do.

I was & still am a huge fan of the Legend Bearclaw. So awesome to see him still shredding after retiring from competition riding. Is there any footage anywhere of him riding BMX ? I remeber him being a guest on the Legendary Drop In series. Long live/ride the Claw 🤘👍. Would like to know if Klassen, Romaniuk, Tremblay, Snaff or any of the Drop In Dirt Bags crew are still riding ?
im good friends with Tremblay and im happy to say he is still riding! Not a lot of freeride stuff but he gets out on the trails a few times a week at least! Still insane on the bike too
