Hi everyone, this is chuck webb, and I would like to thank you so much, for keeping my name alive.Ill be coming out with a book about my time playing at U T,and also coaching n training players, there will be a small taste of the book on facebook and vol nation.Thank you and go Vols
I'm 50 and grew up watching Dorsett and Curt Warner. Went to school at Tennessee and saw a lot of great running backs. Your speed, power and incredible vision make you the greatest running back I've ever seen. Truly.
1989 was my first year as a Vols fan. I attended every home game that year and many others. I was spoiled out of the gate and didn't know it. Probably the reason I am a Vol for Life. Thank you for some of the most exiting moments of my young life. Best of everything to you!
we love ya Chuck. i wish someone post a vid of the Cobb Web show. You and Reggie gave us all a Hell of a show, Thank you so much for choosing Tennesse.
Thanks for the great games chuck!! The entire fan base dreams of what could have been. We thank you for that. Takes a special player to make people think that.
love when WEBB gives his fullback no. 42 POLES respect at 3:22...rightfully so...great fullback for the VOLS. awesome lead blocker...just blew linebackers up!!
What could have been... C.Webb would have been the greatest in UT history. After the Pacific game we never found out. God bless you where ever you are Mr. Webb
Great vid, thanks for posting. Webb was the complete package,a punishing runner with great vision and cutback ability and speed to "go all the way ". The best Vol RB I have seen with Jamal Lewis being a close 2nd.
I heard a "football personality" (I forget who) talking about knee injuries. What he said was that in the last twenty years significant improvements have been made in recovery time from ligament injuries. Wheras twenty years ago it took 2 years to recover, now it takes 9 months to a year. Chuck was the first person I thought about. I can't believe that he was fully recovered in an attempt to make an NFL team. Too great not to have been huge in the league.
@volswaff Cobb's SEC freshman touchdown record was still standing last year. Marcus Lattimore for SC may have tied or broken it, but her we are almost 25 years later and it was still holding. His run in '89 versus Auburn is still one of my all-time favorite plays in UT football. It was also the coming out party for just how good the Cobb Webb was going to be. I'll always wonder what happens against Alabama if he was was still on the team and we don't help them discover Siran Stacy. :P
had chuck webb never got hurt he would of been an outstanding pro...i always said he was emmitt smith with speed or even a thurman thomas..............best compliment chuck webb could of gotten is when bill walsh did college games and as a sophmore bill walsh said had he been elgible to come out the draft he would be taken #1 overall.........doesnt get any more evident on how talented this guy was before that injury
Reggie Cobb was great....but Chuck Webb had not only mine....but the entire country's attention for good reason....he was a "super"-NATURAL.....30 for 30 could do a slice on him....but he just didn't get enough time to earn that....but to say that...show's how great he was!!
@shinzu4001 Oh this Chuck Webb here is one of the most talented Running Back ever seen on film, him before the knee injury ! I study Running Backs as a hobby... Chuck was a rare rare talent.
I remember feeling bad for both teams on defense this day. Neither one could stop the others offense. With Tennessee having the Cobb-Webb attack, Arkansas had Barry Foster, who went on to be a force in the NFL with the steelers. It was a fun game to watch. These two always seem to play great games. It was kind of weird they had only played three times, until Arkansas moved to the sec.
Think about it Cobb's redshirt freshman year he still split carries with Reggie Cobb until Cobb was kicked off after the Auburn game, we never saw this guy get to carry the load for a FULL SEASON. Best back ever to wear The Orange IMO.
If you think chuck is good. His nephew jody, is doing great in high school. I too got to c play with him in high school. I think it's sweet to c my son getting to play with another webb.
@sodear2meee I'm not going to disagree too strongly,,, I loved Webb. There was something about Cobb's running style that made me like to watch him more. One thing is for sure... we don't have anywhere near that caliber of back on the Hill at present. Not by a long shot.
@sodear2meee I still give that title to Reggie Cobb, but had Chuck stayed healthy, who knows? That year Cobb would have been a senior and Webb a sophomore, with Tony Thompson as a backup. There's no telling what could have happened.
Too bad this guy couldn't play w/a little pain. GB drafted him in 1991 in about the 3rd round & he had kind of a minor knee injury & he couldn't even tough it out & practice. He ended up sulking his way out of football. What a shame.
The greatest running back ever to come out of Toledo Ohio was actually his younger brother Jodie Webb, but definitely Chuck was the prototype, it's just Jodie was a gangster
You're smoking something. I played against Chucky from little league through HS and I was a huge fan of Jody and watched every game he ever played in HS. Jody was his nephew and he couldn't compare to Chucky in his wildest dreams. No knock on Jody but one guy was one of the best to ever play the game until he blew his knee out and the other was just a great HS back who couldn't even make a major college team. Drushaun Humphrey that was All-State at Rogers would be a distant 2nd best RB to come out of Toledo. He would have been at tOSU with Clarett but had a heart attack playing basketball and tragically passed away before ever setting foot on the tOSU campus. Chuck was a top 25 USA Today recruit and coveted by every school in the country and ran a legit 4.3 while also winning the OHSSA 100M championship while running a 10.5. Chuck was thick too, with huge legs, he ran over you, through you, and punished a defense while still being a world class sprinter who had vision, balance, and could cut on a dime. I watched tape preparing to play against him and you want to talk about a silent room, nobody could even breath! it was amazing the holes he would see and get to, if there was a crease anywhere he found it! To this day, when I see friends that I played little league with and we talk about those days everybody always has a story about how incredible he was. He was 9 and was far and away the best player in the league playing against 12 year olds. Don't even want to talk about when he was 11 or 12, it was a complete joke.

Toledo legend.
I highly doubt we will see another back as gifted as Chuck Webb....one of the Greatest to wear Orange.
love when WEBB gives his fullback no. 42 POLES respect at 3:22...rightfully so...great fullback for the VOLS. awesome lead blocker...just blew linebackers up!!
Toledo Ohio legend
Yeah this man was supremely talented , like a alien or something ! He was one of the best pure talents I ever saw at the position ..
Chuck Webb is winning pee wee championships, coaching in Ohio. His name is hallowed in Big Orange lore.
I remember watching this game live...great game. Both teams had big days rushing the football, but Tenn manages to pull out a close one.
Best RB TN has ever seen...Pissed him off to be tackled by 1 guy. Fearless...
What could have been...
C.Webb would have been the greatest in UT history.
After the Pacific game we never found out.
God bless you where ever you are Mr. Webb
My hometown hero and from my neighborhood
Great vid, thanks for posting. Webb was the complete package,a punishing runner with great vision and cutback ability and speed to "go all the way ". The best Vol RB I have seen with Jamal Lewis being a close 2nd.
love those old videos. Just can't stand the music better without the music thank you for playing them
No one but John Ward should be calling this.
Best back ever to play at Tennessee ! What if he didnt blow out his knee ?

I was actaully at the Pacific game when he was injured....as an 11 year old I was crushed. Anyone know what he's up to these days?
i was 13 and remember this like it was yesterday…
I can't beleieve how often people foget Tony Thompson put him on that list!

Best I ever saw in Orange.

Chuck web is my cousin
I work with him here in toledo, he's good! He WOULD have been the greatest though
If you don't mind, what do y'all do?

Best running back to ever wear the orange.

Hogs had no idea what hit them when Webb ran all over them
@rcfreak7777 1. Jay Graham 2. Chuck Webb 3. Johnnie Jones 4. Travis Henry 5. Jamaal Lewis
also, how many times can you show the same run?
Lmao, i turned off iTunes before i started the video... Just happened to turn off an incubus song for this. WIN! GO vols!
This would actually be worth watching if you had just left in the announcers.
Let's say the truth. -- "BUST"

@shinzu4001 I think Cobb was better, as well.
Thought he was a hot dog that everyone puts up on a pedestal for being a "never was".
tuned in to see a great runner and had to hear this butt chugging music to it. typical knoxville bad taste
@rcfreak7777 no
I'm sorry but there were and are far more superior backs look at heart numbers, elliot numbers
