Mido released the Multifort TV in 1973. Patek didn't release their Nautilus until 1976. This is *NOT* a homage watch, Patek (and Gerald Genta) copied Mido's homework.
I owned a Mido Ocean Star with the wave pattern dial. I really liked it, but I thought it too large for me. It's only a 42mm case and I do own other 42s but felt it too big for me.
@@raymonddiaz3783 they recently released a 39mm Ocean Star and it's really nice and the sizing is perfect. I wish they'd release a 39mm version of the Multifort M.
Back in September on Father's Day I saw that David Jones Australia was selling the Multifort TV Big date in stainless steel online with the orange rubber for $1,250AUD instead of the $2kAUD normally. Needless to say I jumped on that so quick. They sold out in no time. The rubber strap is great quality but I put it on a black suede vintage style strap with exposed stitching. It looks even more amazing now.
Mido is the most slept in watch company on this planet. Mido is amazing. My Ocean Star has relegated the rest of my collection to the box for the most part
Speaking as the most style savvy person in the entire universe, it’s either the brown dial or the green dial. The other 2 colors are commonplace, and this is not a commonplace watch. Jody, I agree with you about the ghost lume pip, but I think the shoulders at the top and bottom work. They wouldn’t look as weird without that pip.
My wife saw this exact watch at the Time & Tide popup here in Brisbane this weekend it was her favourite of all the watches there… maybe I can talk her out of her Apple watch… and thank you Jody for ribbing her, it actually worked 🎉
I bought the green dial Mido TV online. I opened it... Filled out the return label request ten minutes later. It looked amazing in video and pictures but it was not a fit for my personal taste once I saw it on the wrist. Granted I peeled no stickers and did not size it. Just pinching the bracelet up I knew.... Personal taste only. Was a fine watch quality wise
I love the Swatch group products. I have many Rado and Tissot watches and I love them all. As for the gold colour coating… I have a small low priced Tissot that is 18 years old and has PVD applied gold accents that look as good as new and the 2824 movement has never been serviced and still keeps great time! The Rado’s all have great scratches proof cases. Four of my Rado’s have ceramic cases and all look like new after many years service. The hard metal cased (tungsten carbide) Rado’s also look like new after many years of daily service.
HA! Loved loved loved that almost subliminal FLASH of your previous "Never" Mido declaration. Also noticed your frequent use of the word "perhaps." While I can see you're not yet convinced, I'm glad of your slight change of heart toward Mido. As an owner of three Mido watches (including a Big Date) I can say that their fit and finish is always superb and their watches comfortable and beautifully designed.
Love the watch, because of you Jody I was "forced" to buy a blue dial one with the same rubber strap but in matching blue at Jomashop, yeah because I really needed just one more watch 🙂 BTW they are under 900.00 USD at Joma
This makes a 70s style tv-case watch very attractive. I wouldn't be spending this kind of money on one, but certainly there are other options. Thanks for this video!
I love that. Brown is my fave. Except for Black, Grey, Green, Gold... anyway my first ever watch was a Timex with brown sunburst dial. Yours is nicer. Thanks for the show.
I really like the look of this one and like so many others have said Mido is hugely under-rated, mostly because they not really available in the West. Their market is other places on the globe - South America, South East Asia. I have a Mido myself, a real eye-catcher, love it to bits!
I got a Tudor last month and haven't worn anything else since. It's actually spoiled the hobby for me as I'm losing my interest in other watches. Always wanted to find 'the one' but it has it's downsides!
The orange strap with the dark dial reminds me of the Hermes H08; though the brown rubber and dial look great. Just knowing I’m clumsy at times make me fear scratching the pvd- which is why Indidnt get the Baltic pvd with Breguet like numerals. Great vid as always sir. Have a good day!
A nice suggestion! Only downside for me is the brown colour - just not my cup of tea. With a blue dial like the VC Overseas that rose gold would shine. Cheers Jody!
Between the big date, unique but elegant case shape and the quality fitted rubber, Mido has done a lot right to elevate this watch above its price tag (and, if I'm honest, their other offerings). Add in the other details and it's definitely worth a look
My only gripe with this model line is the dial looking a bit plasticy - that limited edition S01E01 was interesting with a different dial face, so I'm hoping they continue to release more versions, maybe even a metal sunburst line. It's definitely put Mido on my radar
Beautiful watch, really captures the 70s sports spirit. and it's thin and withba flat caseback. Its a winner in my book. I hope there's no plastic parts in this modified power matic 80...
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Once again, this is a great watch that I just would be pretty unlikely to buy. That seems to be my theme song as of late. I just don't really get into square/angular watches very much but I must say I LOVE that colorway! Not really a rose gold guy but it looks fantastic with that brown dial. I do also love the big date. A coworker has a pretty dressy Tudor with a big date. He calls it a double date and he is rarely wrong but same idea. At just under a grand US, the Mido seems like a pretty good deal as well! Good vid and you definitely showed it to good effect, as always.
Agreed, big date is on point. Looking at their website. IMHO it looks better on the strap. Noting that there is a blue strap, but still no black. They really should do one
It's got a lot of features that I don't like on watches but somehow the result looks attractive. Not so keen on the rubber strap but that might grow on me too, easily changed if not.
Beautiful watch. I've always wanted a brown watch but never found one that's moved me to reach for my wallet. Automatic means that this one won't either but still, lovely!
The Mido also reminds me a bit of one of my personal dream watches, the Glashütte 70s Panoramadatum. Which only seems to be available new as a Chronograph now, but there used to be a simple Automatic model as well.
Thanks for the great review! It’s a bit outside my price range but a hell of an alternative. You know what’s not outside of my price range… the Origin GMT! Bring it! Looking forward to the introduction.
Very nice! Despite me not usually liking square cases or rose gold (plated or solid) it does look big and chunky on your wrist though, which is the same size as mine. Oh and this chocolate brown/rose gold combo is the nicest in the range.
I really love the green model of this with the bracelet. If I bought one I’d buy a strap for it too because I’ve been really enjoying a good fkm/fitted rubber recently.
Kudos on keeping an open mind , I do remember you saying something along the lines of “I don’t like Mido, I will never wear one”. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Im most definitely gonna be getting one in stainless steel. I looks great in rose gold and rose is my favorite gold, but i just wont pay over $200-300 for anything plated or coated. Been looking at it since release and find myself more drawn to it each time.
mido released 35mm for this watch and im planning to try it out before buying the big date. even though its kinda targeted towards female audiance, i recon this style of case wears little more bigger than the traditional circular case shape.
It is more of a Nautilus and Aquanault hybrid because the dial is horizontal line pattern and its rubber band design mimic Nautilus bracelet pattern. Nevertheless, such a stunner. 😀
I'd only want to wear one if round and stainless steel including bracelet. It should have a high beat movement even if it hurts power reserve, imo. Can't get into rose gold on a rubber strap ..
On the U.K. site the blue SS can be had with the dark blue rubber strap. Nice design, pity they don’t have the confidence go for it with a higher quality movement and go the whole hog with solid gold
Love mine, nice substitute for a much more expensive watch but still has heritage and a decent movement. Lume of no consequence on a watch like this (to me anyway).
Really enjoyed the review, Mido is a brand I have always just avoided simply as I can't abide the name, that may seem silly to some. However like a lot of folk I like the nautilus but will never be able to afford one. I looked at a San Martin purchase the SN0131-G, l have never had a SM so I considerd it but never bothered. This piece however has a lot to like, the pvd coating is a good point but if your wearing as a rotation. Lot to like here buying one? Mmmm
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the MAMACOO has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
I had the date wheel malfunction on mine, a very common issue. Mido fixed it for free and I assume it's fine now. Apparently they tried to get an away with using a plastic part that likes to break and replace it with a metal one. Apparently.
I really like these; have handled them in my local store but just wasn't tempted by the existing colorways. I promised myself I am trying to downsize my collection 😩... but this brown and rose gold...👀
I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MAMACOO brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !
Love Mido! Love this watch due to the big date but I am a diver watch kind of guy. I got the Mido Ocean Star GMT after your review of it. Looking to get the Mido Ocean Star Tribute or the Decompression World Timer. Would love to see a big date dive watch, preferable under $2000. Would love the Glashutte Original Sea Q Panorama Date, but don't have $12k to spare LOL. Great review as always Jody!

Nope, its the other way round. The Mido came before the Gerald Genta design, so Patek in fact has a whiff of Mido.
I tried these on at an airport boutique, they're nice watches, bigger on wrist than the 40mm size suggests. Very fair review!
I have one of these, and I love it. Just be wary, the rose gold case does knick and scratch easily

The 12 and 6 bezel design seems like an attempt to "integrate" the bracelet style into the case without having an integrated bracelet
