honestly, I was surprised to find out this was your first video, but this has inspired me to keep improving my drawing skills
Ayee thank you, I'm surprised it has this many views 😳 I'm happy I inspired you! I believe in you growing your art skills 🙏
Yeah I think I might even try this :)
Yeah, me too

I just found that out bcz I saw this comment. And this inspires me to do this too. Thank you =).
Okay, so your day 1 skills were significantly higher than your thumbnail suggests.
Your progress is incredible. You’ll be art god in no time
THANKS ELISE!
its fake its a clickbait thumbnail. as an artist i can tell that he purposefully drew "bad" for the before picture, its very easy to tell
@@krystle8090 yeah, so? In the actual video he shows his real progress, and it’s a lot. Clickbait can be a lot worse than one bad drawing anyways
@@krystle8090well duh
i dont know how to use these tools in procreate 😂
Incredible! You can really see your improvement! Even though you didn't stay 100% consistent, cheers to you for pulling through!
It was definitely a challenge haha, thanks for watching!
I was recently on the brink of quitting art thinking that I couldn’t improve, seeing this inspired me a lot. Somtimes it’s easy to get so overwhelmed by all the things that we can’t do yet. I tried a daily art study and burned myself, I hit a month long art block and felt like I’d failed. I think it’s important to stop seeing improvement as linear, thank you for this video. Hope to see this channel bloom❤
I had the exact same situation! Feels good to know I’m not alone ❤
I've had my iPad and ProCreate for three years and haven't drawn a thing. This makes me want to find tutorials on portraits and get back into drawing. Thanks. Very inspirational.
Please do ❤
Bro your day one looks better than my 2 years of digital art😑
And your day 30...I don't have words to explain your perfection comparing with your day 1,keep up the good work mate❤️🖤

I don't know HOW MANY TIMES I have watched this video, it's one of my comfort things to watch for some reason, it's so fun to see the progress!
Thank you for sharing your mistakes and times you couldn't keep up to your schedule, not just the successes. It is encouraging.
AAA this is so inspiring, I admire how you took so much time out of your day. I know many of us just get lazy and neglect practice, so this was really fun to see. The improvement was amazing!
Super cool to see! I love that you did the first portrait again in the end, the progress is easier to recognize that way, and waow what an improvement! :D I would love to see more videos from you, anything art related
Thank you! ❤️ I'll keep trying to create more vids for you, art related 😋
this is definitely my comfort TH-cam video, I love re watching your progress and it gives me so much motivation to draw!
I could never do challenges right because I have little discipline to commit a spaced out exercise. I tend to binge, skip days, and rely too much on motivation over persistence. So good on you for keeping the 30 portraits as compromise to 30 daily portrait. You still managed to finish and learn after every portrait while working parttime.
Do you also have ADD?😭
@@oceanmelodie8633 im not diagnosed ❌
Ah, I completely understand you. What worked a bit for me is to just start small ... like, just have a very small sketchbook (A6/A7) with you and scribble something in it every day. It's only for you, doesn't need to be perfect and draw whatever you like in it and you don't have to show it to anyone. It can just be small 20-30 min sketches and have fun with it
Honestly, I have huge respect for you doing this challenge. I’ve been drawing a portrait almost every single day for the past year. Balancing eight hours school days and for the first half of the year extra preparation for my art school entrance exam. I definitely like you also skipped a couple of days. But honestly drawing a portrait every day I think was one of the best decision I’ve ever made. We all have different journeys to become greater artist and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about it. Love y’all and stay safe.❤
Thank you! 1 year of portraits almost daily is amazing, keep it up!
You're amazing for pushing yourself to draw almost everyday
I struggle to draw even more than once a month because drawing with my fingers on a phone takes so much time and effort
ur portrait drawings are incredible!
Thank you! ❤️ I've seen one of ur vids before 😊
I loved this - the difference between day 1 and day 30 was WILD! I'm inspired to give this a go too. Also, I'd love to see you make more videos, any kind of voice over about your drawing process would be awesome.
Genuinely shocked at the quality of content. As someone else pointed out, wouldn't have expected this to be your first ever video nor did I expect you to have only 7k subs. Massively underrated, I hope the algorithm notices you soon. Thank you for posting your journey!
this is incredibly inspiring. I did a 31 day challenge last year and I got burned out halfway through. to this day I still haven’t finished it, but your 2 hour time limit encourages me to continue. Keep going with the vids! you certainly gained a subscriber with me
I was surprised to find out that you only have two videos on your channel, I want to watch more of your progress. This video inspired me so much, I hope to watch more of your videos.
Same I tought he has like 20 vids 😂❤
You did a beautiful job. Love your editing as well. I'm very inspired :)
Glad I could inspire you! Thanks so much ❤️
I literally just stopped drawing after 4 hours. Say down and watched this on TH-cam, booted up photoshop and started drawing again, awesome vid and inspired me to try something new outside my usual art
This is so amazing, I'm thinking of trying that timer technique myself but I don't even finish up a portrait sketch under 2-3 hours.
I'm quite slow which is a huge problem especially since I'm getting caught in the details as well, my longest portrait took me 22 hours. T_T
Woah! 22 hours is dedication!!
Just something that might help you pick up speed, don't let perfectionism get in the way of progress! You could be looser and make many mistakes, but you learn from those mistakes! There's basically no losing here, it's a win win scenario 💪 The more you draw the better you get, quantity over quality for something like this :) Hope it helps
I wonder, how much of your sketch do you still see after the final rendering? if a lot of it isn't visible as a sketch in the final image, you could try to keep the sketch simpler and get the details in with the rendering instead.
But mostly, just try to think from big to small, from broad strokes, to fine details. hopefully that can help speed up your process somewhat.
Also, as a fun challenge; if you're doing digital art, try to do traditional art for a few weeks instead. like, pick up a cheap set of brushes, canvas, easel and oil paints from like a dollarstore and just mess around and try to 'recreate' some of your digital art and see how that goes. Then go back to digital and see how your process/workflow has changed.
@@lalystar4230 I have this weird feeling that my sketch has to have everything that I want in a piece, like I would spend so much time drawing "perfect" lines and working on composition.
I go for fully rendered realistic piece so most of my linework from sketch is covered up. I should definitely speed up the process because I'm taking up too much time.
I'm in art school right now and I'm assigned to do gesture drawing and spending around 3-5 minutes on each sketch which is helping me so much with this problem, I really recommend it!
@@serenaspellman6217 ohh yess gesture drawings are amazing for sure! just a few flowy lines to have a general direction for the sketch, then some doodly lines to give it a little bit more detail and ure done. those are actually a good basis to take as an initial sketch and then immediately start painting over it, without fully sketching the rest of the piece!
Actually... I'm kinda wanting to give you another challenge instead.
Take a reference photo, draw a gridline on top, then draw a grid on your canvas and start painting, without sketching at all.
Do that for a couple of studies and then see if that helps out with your workflow after.
Really hope that'll help you out as well!
ANd yeah I should go back an work some more on my gestures and basics really xD
I'm also painting realistic mostly. Really love doing clothing. faces are hard and fur is tedious xD I do love painting furry animals tho, really ought to do more of those as well xD
anyhow good luck with your art journey!!!
@@lalystar4230 Thanks for the tip! Good luck on your journey as well! ^^
It was such a great idea to do your day 1 portrait again for day 30 with the same time limit. It's so impressive how much you improved with practise. I found it really inspiring that you changed up the details of the challenge (removing the time limit, focusing on eyes or hair) while keeping the core challenge of completing the portraits. I often get bored when doing challenges like this so i like the idea of giving myself permission to change parts of it while focused on the main goal
As a fellow artist, don't worry about a wet noodle or a hard one, even a small improvement will stay with you forever. Keep up the awesome work!
You have become an art god, congrats! And you give me a lot of inspiration and courage to draw again, keep up man, i would love to see more of your art works!
Nooo tysmm ❤ Still far from the art god role! I'm so glad I inspired you, I believe you can become so good!
I know I'm kinda late but I just wanted you to know that you have inspired a person which was suffering from 1 year and a half from art block to start drawing again so thank you so much :)
this is such an inspiration. i have the WORST habit of adding details before i even color most of the canvas. i always get scared when i think about how ugly the final product would look and barely trust the process. i think I'll give this challenge a try myself and see how i do. thank you, really:)
The one video i was needing so bad in my art journey. Thank you immensely! I was aiming to start drawing portraits and i always didn't know where to start from. This video made me realize i can't start perfect, there's no plan needed to start, and there's no definite rule to start drawing portraits (or where/what to start with)... I will try this challenge as well, looking forward for all the things I'm going to learn
Consistency doesn't always look uninterrupted. You got to your objective and that's what matters! Congrats on the progress, hope to see more of your content!
The biirrbbbbb!!!!! Good progress and thanks for inspire me ^^
good on you mate! ive been drawing portraits a lot lately but ive not been improving this quickly! Ive got a lot to learn, but we all do. So keep doing what youre doing my dude!
I've been drawing ever since I was little, and im 13 now but my art just doesn't improve. I feel like I don't make any drawings that I'm proud of anymore. All of them look the same. My art style isn't consistent and I try so many things at once I can't find anything I"m comfortable with. However this video gave me a boost of confidence so hopefully I can continue my art journey and improve my art :)
My jaw dropped when I saw the difference between day 1 and day 30. Despite them both looking amazing I could see so much improvement and it really inspired me to practice more on my art! I’m sorry you felt so burnt out at one point while making the video, and thank you for working hard on the challenge anyway! You really did inspire and I can’t wait to see new videos. Definitely subscribing! :) “your art process is like a wet noodle.” -Jonnel
This is cool and makes me want to try a similar challenge, portraits are my weak spots too and I'd love to improve on them! Also I love how you can see such a noticeable difference in your day 1 and day 30 artworks, you've really improved a lot!
I agree
I enjoyed that you commented what your problems where and how you worked out how to get through it. I also struggle with perfectionism and i can sit for 1 hour just trying to start a drawing and then just erasing everything cuz i get so frustrated. So this would be a really good challenge for me. Not get to caught up in the details and just understand what i should prioritize and focus on. Thank you, beautiful drawings aswell ⭐️
Love your progress! Just a tip don't worry about the time it takes you to complete something. Most professional artists take hours to days (taking breaks of course) to produce amazing artwork. The key is to break the art up into sketches, wips and process videos of small features. That way if you are worried about not having something to post you'll always have content to post. ❤
That was cryptic
@@Darling_Diva The people who understands got the message. Have a nice day ❤️
I love just how many of sam's lessons i was able to find in this video, its really nice to see someone enjoy his tips just as much as i do :)
i’m glad you added at the end that you had tried a male portrait! my biggest gripe with your mentioned inspiration (samdoesarts) is that he draws basically the same pretty girl over and over again, and his “style” is more like just the same face every time. if you want to improve quickly you should keep trying a larger variety of subjects, across more genders, races and even age ranges!! then you will be able to see your true style come through :)
I love to hear someone else say it!! I see a lot of people praising samdoesarts and he definitely has a lot of skill. I think there are a lot of “cute girl” artists out there but I appreciate more diversity in character design, too.
This. Funny enough, my own art journey was a bit like Sam where I only drew female characters and refused to draw male characters (the innate curve-ness of female characters threw me off when it came to how boxy male characters tend to be). Fast forward a few years later and now I only exclusively draw male characters (I'm gay, so that helps lol).
Sam has improved now in my opinion he draws girls with different features🤷🏿♀️
@@milky8471 i think that’s great, and that would make him a better artist, so my original point still stands! you’ll develop a stronger art style if you study a variety of subjects with different features and traits.
@@clairekie Yes you're right, I think he has a long way to go but he's on the right one

This was such an amazing first video! Do you think you’ll ever make a video of how you render/draw hair and eyes? I was shocked to see those two things looks so good from start to finis
Will make some vids about it soon ;)
HAHA the outro.
The satisfaction of remaining pushing you to strive, even when you're thinking to swap the frustration for something else that may gives you some gratification, congrats for your progress!!
I think I'm going to start this challenge tomorrow because I haven't improved on my drawings in a while. I've lost the passion to create and learn more about art. This is probably a dumb idea to get back into drawing art but I don't know what will if i don't try. Thank you for sharing your experience! You're a incredible artist!
The lighting on the portraits are so good! I like how you put the hair in 1 big shape too!
HELL YEAH MAN!! that video was damn good! your art got really, REALLY beautiful! the overall process of the video was beautiful. i really loves the message about burnout and art block, because it really is a struggle. but i admire the crap out of you for this. you have a follower, I'll be here every video! you have my word!

This has inspired me so much, I never thought of putting up a time limit and it is genious.
I often get so frustrated with one drawing just not coming out the way I want and I deny myself the chance to move on from it until I get a result I'm satisfied with, but it sometomes turns into months of just one drawing that I now hate and the idea of drawing just isn't appealing anymore.

I actually had no idea this was your first video until the end. YOUR ART IS AMAZING!! And it’s motivating me to do the challenge, too! You know I’m subscribing after this-
sooooo inspirational... for some reason i always keep forgetting the simplest truth of "practice makes perfect" lol but videos like this get me back on track 💪😤 thank you for the motivation!! 💕
Your most important insight of the whole video was the bit about keeping it fun. Especially when you are beginning, it's much more important to develop a positive association with drawing to make sure you can't wait for your next opportunity to draw. When you already have a good practicing habit, targeting your weaknesses becomes more fun because it opens the door for you to become even better, but starting out with drills and exercises before you've even developed the habit of drawing at all is mental torture. All of this in my humble opinion of course, everyone should investigate what works for them. Someone with the capacity for military discipline might be able to obsessively practice every day and fun isn't even a factor to consider, just the burning desire to become good.
Thank you. I might've not started a portrait challenge like you did, but you inspired me to draw one today and that's all that matters.
In any subject: you learn best in suffering (but don’t do it in every life aspect at once!!! balance it out!⚖️)
Apparently so 🤣 just don't quit and you're on your way to success
@@Jonnelss hahahaha no i just didn’t experience that with drawing because i don’t push myself enough. I just land in these situations and im happy afterwards

NICEEE thank u sm for watching ❤
I'm really happy to see more people picking up art and appreciating the effort that goes into this work. This is not a jab at you as I know Pinterest and a lot of other sources provide disproportionate representation. But I think it would be important to learn to render darker skin and tighter curls. In my opinion, it increases your ability and helps you notice any bad habits you might form while learning (especially with hard light on darker skin). That said your 30 day progress was amazing! I'd love to see more!
I’d say not darker skin, all skin types and ages. I’ve seen so many dark skinned artist mess up fair skinned portraits, artist usually go off by what they are used to and I don’t find it necessary to do darker toned portraits unless it’s for a professional project. Otherwise for fun I think an artist can create whatever skin tones persons they want, art is about what you like and not forcing a particular thing or subject in ur art then it becomes tedious and boring. Art is art , and the thing is anyone can create it and anyone can like it and not really like it , there is such thing as good and bad art too, as far as topics and what the art is about but otherwise let the artist be an artist and create and not let the art itself be an idol or a poison to be a god like figure bc then it becomes destructive and unhealthy and unnecessary for the artist themselves.
Omg, i love thw sam does art bird
This is amazing! Your art is so good, you will improve very quickly, and your enthusiasm makes me want to draw hands again. (After many failed attempts)
Thank you for this video, and don't let artblocks stop you. Sometimes, all you need to break free from it is to draw something different.
