You are totally BADASS, I was blown away by the Megladon, and now the YZILLA, unreal Max, great job. I ride a YZ250 smoker and a CR250R, that has a Haeseker racing engine, now I want a YZILLA.

Nice project! I remember in 1987, Yamaha made a YZM 500 for its factory riders. It was white & red, liquid cooled and had an aluminum frame. John Van Den Berg was very successful on that bike!
I remember in 85 Yamaha was stated in saying they could not afford to make works bikes, so the FIM imposed a production rule in 1986 for the USA only. Yamaha still made works bikes, and you are on the right track, the latest 125/250 is based off the YZM factory machines of the late 80's.

They did that because Yamaha was whining about not being able to build a Works bike to compete with the others. Especially Honda. After which they never built a Works bike. The true works bikes was last seen on the track in America only in 1985. They still round them in Europe, but only for a couple more years. The reason why they quit building them even in Europe was because after seeing the 86 destinations team on production based bikes ridden by O'Meara, Johnson, and Bailey beat the mega dollar Works bikes Honda felt it wasn't Justified to keep spending that kind of money and keep building that exotic of a machine when a production based bike could go out and stomp their high dollar Works bikes. That's not my opinion, that is just facts. I'm not trying nor is it my intention to sound like a smart aleck I just want to set set the record straight. These are things I've learned from being in the sport since 1984.
Glad to see you put it in red and white livery - that's how a YZ big bore should be! I would love to try one of those. I'm sure it feels a lot more refined than my 86 YZ490!
Roland nailed the jetting first go also nothing better than watching a works machanic at it , as I call them bike Doctors/spealist. I've grown to love the yz blue but you've nailed it who could pass on white,red an gold hands down no other option would beat it , I have to have one . Absolutely awesome spot on.

I owned an RM 465 back in the day . Had a lot more TQ than my RM 125’s lol , but still had an amazing amount of top end for a big bore . I’d love to buy a brand new YZ250 and get it made into a 500. I’m a 4.5 hour drive from Calgary 😊
My IT-465...hit harder than the IT-490....borh good old school air cool....a little heavy...stable at speed...and yes a CR500...and a KX500 would put a whopping on both IT...
My 1981 IT-465 had 5 speeds....I had names for all of them....she was white... I called her White Lighting.... Bought her used...not clapped out...she did need eventtally M8 x 1.25 cylinder Helicoil inserts for the studs for the head.. Later as a power boost .I used to run about 10% nitromethane/ methanol....by volume mixed with 100 octane race gas...but that little special brew was useful ...to surprise my buddies with new found power....she even smelled good when running .. . The good old days... I am still riding... Some day...Maybe when I team up with the Big Bore Addicts...I hope to ride a CR and KX.... What even be better is this new BRC 500...with that countershalt..
Must find 1 of the remaining 6 YZM500s in circulation to do a proper test & comparison! There were 8 built, and 2 are in the Yamaha museum. At least 2 are still being raced occasionally.

The build looks absolutely brilliant! Throw on a headlight and taillight to give your friends a fighting chance to spot you off in the distance as they try to keep up‼ Keep doing what you do!
Very nice bike! Now that it has twice as big cylinder capacity it would be probably beneficial to have the air box modified to let in more air as this beast really needs it. Drill some extra air inlet holes to the airbox. Then jet the carburetor accordingly by increasing the jet sizes as otherwise it can be too lean. More air and more fuel = even more power! This 500 cc "air pump" is so big vs. 250 cc that the stock air box must be restricting the airflow more or less. I can´t wait for the next videos of YZilla 500 on the mx track.

Attention to detail is off the hook in every way. This is a ridiculous motorcycle but what the Hell, ya just gotta love the raw visceral appeal of a 500. I had a well sorted 500 back in the 90s. Been there, rode that, survived it, considerably older and somewhat wiser now, a late model 300 XC is fine for me. Can't say I miss that 500cc vibration and heavy crank influenced handling much. Modern 300s really are the shiznitz, their combo of good 2T power and sharp handling is magical. That said, I would love to ride this 500 - LOL

I don’t know why but there’s something that gets me excited when I see a mint early-mid 90’s steel frame 500 even sitting next to the latest AF 500. Maybe just nostalgia and me getting over 30 now but I just love them for some reason.
