9 Puppies' Personality Types

Part 2. How to pick a puppy from a litter. How to tell puppies personalities apart. How to choose a puppy that’s right for me (you). Which puppy fits me best? Misty, my female rottweiler had 9 puppies and here’s a video of how I differentiate their personalities. I ended up having 1 timid, 2 rebels, 3 relaxed, 1 bully, 1 independent thinker, and 1 eager to please pup. Even within the same category, they each display their own character unique to that pup. The first one up was Butch, he’s shy, submissive and sweet, making him the timid one. It could be because he is also the runt of the litter, the easiest target to get picked on.. Next up was Alfalfa and already could see the complete difference in personalities between him and Butch. Alfalfa is playful, smart, social and assertive, making him the Rebel of the litter. Following was Porky, the chill, laid back, pup putting him in the relaxed type. Next was Whoopi, chill and calm, and also relaxed type, slightly more submissive than Porky. After her followed the star of tiktok, Spanky. The Bully of the litter (there is always that one pup). He plays rough, climbs the walls, dominant and intelligent, he will need lots of attention growing up for sure. Then comes Mary Ann, another rebel in the litter. She is very much like mother like daughter in that she’s adventurous, playful, very clever and assertive. Darla is my only pup that is most eager to please. She always get super excited when she sees hoomans. Last but not least we have Jane, the relaxed pup. She is super chill and calm.

I lived in a basement apt in Joan Klems house who was the president of the Medallion rottweiler club at the time. Joan wrote 3 books on Rotties. I watched 100 plus rottweilers from the club members to others visiting. You are a top notch breeder. Keep up the good work. My key with Rottweiler puppies is first 2 years socialization. Spending an hour a couple of times a week at the pet store letting all the people pet and meet my dog. So I always say my Rotties are over socialized as they will force you to pet them by laying on your feet belly up or nose nudging your hand behind your neck.

After 4 years, I finally found a relative of the line I've had for 20+ years. Although I wish I could've puppy tested his litter as I have our puppies over the years, he was 6 months old when I found his breeder and him. Fortunately he has the most desirable traits of our line which I could identify from the videos of him the breeder has sent. It's fascinating how behavioral traits pass down. The ability to see those traits in action over a month's worth of videos is the only way I would have chosen a puppy without puppy testing.
