UMK3 is still my favorite entry to this day. The gameplay was perfected as far as the 2D games goes, the speed and characters are excellent. I still enjoy playing this with friends and competitively! Great video and series.
UMK3 was the first MK game I played in 1997 or thereabout. It remains one of my favourite games to this day and brings back so many wonderful memories.
MKT on Playstation was horribly unbalanced. The only thing it had an advantage over the N64 version was a bigger roster and better sound, although I wish they didn't downpitch the music. The N64 version was more balanced and no load times, but the sound was awful and the controller took a little more time to get used to for a fighting game.
11:21 Thanks for the glimpse into the "best Fatality in MK history"! Wished you had included Sooke laying out the bombs, however. But for real, there has never been a Fatality that embodied the "over the top" aspect of Mortal Kombat's "finishers" to the extent of Smoke blowing up the whole damn planet just to finish off his opponent! That had me rolling off the floor when I first saw it!
Back as a kid, I remember thinking I created Ermac 😂 I had been obsessed with Scorpion, but had drawn a red ninja since & submitted my idea in fan art during MK2 & MK3's run. When UMK3 came out & I saw Ermac, I freaked out & showed friends at school who were also. MK fans. I really thought they liked my idea & put it in the game. Granted, I was a 4th grader, and didn't understand pallete swaps 😅 Either way, I love UMK3 & MK Trilogy so much. They were like the culmination of my childhood obsession
I like that in the original 3, not Ultimate, since there were no ninjas that can be used for Noob, he was actually using a blacked out Sprite of Kano. After that, Ultimate and after, they used a proper ninja.
Funnily enough, even though Noob isn’t a playable character in the Saturn port of UMK3, his “blacked-out Kano” version IS actually still there. If you win the 8-player tournament mode, and select the right “reward”, you get to fight him. He uses all of Kano’s moves, IIRC, and he’s insanely tough
Love the old era of them just changing color of certain character to make completely new character. Hope this thing could happen in some way or another these days😅
Yeah, managing to create eight characters from the same male ninja sprite (Scorpion, SubZero, Reptile, Smoke, Ermac, Rain, Noob, Chameleon). Four from a female ninja sprite (Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Khameleon) and three from a cyber ninja sprite (Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke) is incredibly clever, and I imagine saved a bunch of memory space.
In the new MK1 trailer Scorpion and Sub-Zero are kolour swaps again with just minor differences to their outfit so I think the simple designs might be koming back which makes sense kause they’re going back in time
7:20 I am SO glad to see this combo being shown in an MK3 video cuz chaining the ground saw with the spinny cocoon move got nerfed out of the final version. In my area, we never knew you could start a combo with a roundhouse, probably because you generally couldn't do so in MK 1 or 2 unless near a corner. Anyway, I remember a Sunday morning in the first few weeks since MK3 had been released where my bro, some random dudes we'd hit it off with at the arcade, and I were putting our heads together to come up with the longest combo we could think of. We pretty quickly settled on Kabal. Even though I wasn't worth a damn with him at that point since I mained Subby and Jax in the beginning, I was still able to come up with the idea of jump kick, cocoon move, ground saw, LK, LK, HP, HP, D+HP, jump kick, air projectile for a 10-hit 72% combo. I just couldn't do it myself but luckily one of the other ppl in our lil group was able to. It was awesome knowing you could pull off something like that (in that version, at least) and it led to me maining Kabal not long after that but cyber Smoke would become my new main as soon as he became unlockable, as was the case for many others.
Hey, great job on this video. I'm watching all of them and onto mk4. It's always good to see additional channels put their touch on the story recap. One small detail, tho: as far as i can remember and have played on ps1 and n64, the full aggressor meter only boosted damage shown with an additional shadow trail behind your character. No speed boost. 👍
Thanks so much!! I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos, Shaolin Monks is in production atm. Really, it looked and felt like it sped up your combos but I could be wrong haha 😄
I think MK3 was an incomplete on the rush game which complete version was UMK3. I've seen videos, some also clipped in this video that show Becky Gable doing her part as Kitana/Mileena/Jade along with actors from MK3, like John Turk or Richard Divizio. So... at least those three female characters were meant to be in MK3 but were cut for some reason. It's not like she was called later to play her roles for an update of MK3.

Totally with you; his combos and attacks were so unique and appropriate for its time considering the social issues happening in the USA, mainly Los Angeles.
Another stellar episode, good job man . I am only now as of watching this, realising that trilogy was an official release and not just the epic hack of umk3 for the megadrive lol
Great video! I think it's worth noting though, the "outrage" from the arcade operators is somewhat of a half truth. UMK3 was in development before MK3 was released, likely due to the shortened timeframe between arcade and home console releases of MK3. It's also worth noting that UMK3 was FREE upgrade for arcade operators.
MK3 and its extensions Ultimate MK3 (UMK3) & MK Triology were the best in the saga... I played soooo many hours on that. Still so hard to do a fatality, let alone a Brutality. The level of hard of this game is ridiculous, remind the bosses that destroy you with 4 hits.
Thank you so much for producing this. Bought back awesome memories. I remember first playing MK3 on the SNES; it changed the face of Beat-Em-Ups forever! I miss Motaro. I wonder if the mechanics are just too hard to do in a game to make him hard, but balanced. Then again, boss characters are usually cheap in fighting games.
3 was my 2D favorite. The atmosphere, speed and massive number of features were improvements for me. Besides, its the first one I actually knew how to play 😂
They should bring back the MK3 music theme and horrific screams and every fatality and special move from every game for use of Juggle combos and also all outfits from movies and games
Man i kinda wished i grew up with these types of games life seemed so great around then too bad i grew up with mk9 mkx and mk11 which many people considered bad so i always try and understand these games to see what makes it so good and i see why now im not as critical on mk story mode but it does make me wish i was around on earth during the midway timeline
Shao Kahn went for it all in MK3 and in storyline he should have succeeded. Once you play as Shao Kahn in Trilogy you fully understand that no one can match him
Did anyone else get that black screen with the music playing after finishing the tournament mode on the PS1 version of UMK3? It happened a lot and i had to reset the game each time.

I miss Motaro. I wonder if the mechanics are just too hard to do in a game to make him hard, but balanced. Then again, boss characters are usually cheap in fighting games.
Here we go, lets get it!!!
Great content. Keep it up.
Thanks so much!
That soundtrack 🔥
Had that Hellrasier vibe
The firs 3 mortal kombats are the 🐐. I miss the music and overall eerie feel it once had
3 was my 2D favorite. The atmosphere, speed and massive number of features were improvements for me. Besides, its the first one I actually knew how to play 😂
Ngl. I loved this game...but i think trilogy takes the cake. The ps1 version
I'm still angry there's not a MKT remaster! I mean, not remake: REMASTER! For all systems.
Imagine how fun that would be...
The best mortal kombat 🎉
No Scorpion!!! What we’re they thinking!!!
Mk3 is probably my all time favorite in the franchise. I REALLY miss the brutalities.
They should bring back the MK3 music theme and horrific screams and every fatality and special move from every game for use of Juggle combos and also all outfits from movies and games
Vanilla Mk3 is my favorite version. Before it was upgraded into UMK3 and Trilogy.
Mk3 releasing without Scorpion is like Street Fighter with no Ryu wtf were they thinking
Umk3 was my favorite besides trilogy. I has it on the Saturn. I'm digging the new mk1 quite a bit.
My favorite Mortal Kombat are these old ones. I hope for this kombat mechanic in an iphotetic remastered
Every mk game needs to be on switch
Mk3 is my favorite classic mk
Very thorough. Thank you.
You’re very welcome! Glad you liked the video 🙌
Keep up the content mate. Absolutely love it❤
Thank you mate! 🙂
on the Playstation 1 version of mortal kombat trilogy you could hit select on jax, kung lao, raiden and kano to choose there mk1 and mk 2 version
All I got from this, was that Sindel is indeed originally painted neutral or bad from the get go. Her design speaks for itself.
Old MK was the best honestly..this new mk1 looks like a tekken game
Man looking at your content being explained like this !..your better than game informer 😂😂💯
Wow thanks Michael!! 🙏
Complaining about an actual new character like Stryker but not about palette-swapped robots is an interesting take.
I had gotten mk3 for xmas in the 90s. Umk3 is the best mk game still imo
UMK3 is my favorite and it will never be topped
Shao Kahn went for it all in MK3 and in storyline he should have succeeded. Once you play as Shao Kahn in Trilogy you fully understand that no one can match him
Mk3 was a legend. The best of all. The debut of Sindel was my all time favorite
MK3 music was crazy lol
I love this game
MK3 brought in Ultimate and Trilogy... This is the best Mortal Kombat til this day
I heard about MK Ultra around this time and thought that was the follow up 😂 The more you know..
MK3 > MK1
Like literally...
Did anyone else get that black screen with the music playing after finishing the tournament mode on the PS1 version of UMK3? It happened a lot and i had to reset the game each time.
I wish the arcade collection was available on switch as well as the wii version of Armageddon
That would be great!
Now I feel like playing MK Trilogy
I have ultimate Mk3 on pcb for arcade it kicks ass in true arcade
I never understood the hate for Trilogy. It’s by far the best fighting game ever
