I'm a publishing student, and I can tell you that eBooks are also great for authors because often authors make more off eBooks because since they are cheaper to make they have a higher royalty (their percent of the profits) from the company, and even more per title if they self-published.
The other day I was at Birmingham airport but I couldn't find a water bottle refill station so I literally just went to the Costa cafe and the man there filled it up for free and even added ice! I felt so proud because everyone else in the line was buying their overpriced water in single use bottles!
Good for you! I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn and the staff were happy to fill my water bottle each morning, they even added ice as the weather was hot. Hopefully it will become the norm for places to do this. We just have to keep asking.
I don't recommend eco friendly alternatives to people because it's good to the planet anymore - I jump right to the fact that it saves money because unfortunately most people are in it for themselves 🙃 But I'm glad there are reasons for everyone to live a low impact life!
Honestly ur being a bit harsh. Financial hardship is a reality for a lot of people. Maybe even u guys too I’m not gonna assume ur lives. And sometimes the low waste eco friendly minimalist healthy organic vegan etc all the hippie buzzwords aren’t financially realistic or fit their lifestyle. They have kids, they have bills, and they have debt. Not all eco friendly hacks are friendly to wallets. Like being able to afford ethical clothing for example. Or some people live in such a low socioeconomic area that they don’t have a sustainable grocery store around. Not to mention bulk bins or anything of that nature and can only even sometimes afford cheap crappy food for them and their family. I could go on and on. I’m not poor but my college is in a town where my only food options are a dollar general and a Walmart. I’d have to drive 45mins to another city for anything that isn’t wrapped individually in plastic etc.

(u didn’t call them bad people, but u could definitely be a lot less judgey) so just realize that some of us have to worry more about staying afloat before we try to save the world and others have a little less problem with that🤷🏾♀️ some don’t have the resources to do some things associated with those Isms and some do. Imagine a college student (which I am) or a single mom trying to raise kids or just anybody really I would be concerned and happy about the financial savings because some of us have that issue to worry about like I’m sure u probably do too. Hard to focus on saving the planet when u can’t pay ur bills so if the amazing financial benefits is what first lures them to the movement then so be it😊

I got as much informations about it as possible and this year I bought it. Now I'm getting more and more into the eco-friendly/zero waste lifestyle but I probably wouldn't have been too interested in it if it weren't for the fact that saves money. I know that this might sound selfish but I don't see it that way. Even if the reason that you get to know this lifestyle is because of money that doesn't mean that you don't care. (sorry, english is not my first language so this might not be well written)

Mika I agree! Although there is a great gravity based water filtration system called Berkey filters that we use in our apartment. The filters are so powerful that they can filter out even viruses. You could put swamp water through the system and it would be safe to drink (although doing so regularly would significantly shorten the life of the filters). It requires no electricity or water pressure to use and is a stand alone unit. The filters last for 3,000 gallons of tap water, which for our usage is about 8 years!
Clothes swap is a really great idea. I sometimes borrow my mom's sweaters to wear and my sisters borrow my clothes especially when we were younger. I am falling in love with diy. I have so far made moisturizer, body lotion, and lip balm and have reused jars and plastic containers to hold them in. I am almost done with my deodorant, toner, leave-in conditioner and toothpaste, so when that is completed I have the ingredients to make those. I am happy with the changes I have made. Lissy Kate I do that too! I've found that during flu season, the skin around my nose gets less irritated. And my grandmother gave me ones with intricate embroidery, so they are really special!

Sorry, I am so excited! Just had to comment on repairing things. I had two really good purses that I kept because they needed minor repairs. One needed a new zipper, so I went on TH-cam to Margaret Meyer's video about repairing separated zippers. I followed her instructions and my purse is like brand new. The other purse I used a glue gun to repair the clasp, and added soft electrical tape to the handles. Both purses are usable again. No need to go to the store or even buy secondhand! I saved around $35-50. So so happy!😂
So many good points! You inspired me to try to create as little waste as I can. I stopped buying soy milk or tofu and now make it at home. I don’t have access to a bulk shop, but I try to remain as close to package free as possible. Thanks for the encouragement!💚

I was so amazed by the OP shops in New Zealand. When I was travelling I remember buying a pan, some cutlery, 2 bowls, 2 mugs and a bag for 2,50$. I found some great hoodies and shirts for 1-2$. Books for a few dollars or even for free.

The way I think of it with my reusable razor it paid for itself in the time I would have used 3 razors from Venus (a us brand I believe?) those run about $7 USD and my reusable was $20 USD so it is wonderful. That’s how I justified my menstrual cup as well. It paid for itself in 3 months. Breaking it down the tampons I used were about $10 USD a box I went through about a box a period and my cup was about $28 USD I proved to myself these are all worth it. Just by breaking it down. 💜 Thank you for your videos you inspire me a lot.

since I stopped eating meat i make all my own meals now. for dinner i just make 2 portions and have half for lunch the next day. i used to have breakfast out everyday, but now i make porridge at home
I don't have a fully non-plastic razor, but it is reusable and I can make one head last about a month, and my boyfriend can make his last one shaving (which he does about every other month). Dollar Shave club was so cheap to get the starter kit, and the heads are like $10 a month for 4 and I can skip the months I don't need to refill. I've saved so much money, and now I throw away far less plastic.
Shopping less and using reusables is usually a no-brainer, but the hair point REALLY saves so much money and resources. I used to buy so many hair products, masks, oils etc but after doing the water only method, my hair is in better condition. Of course this doesn't work for everybody but if you do it right (without using overly hot water or stripping products like baking powder) and you remember to scritch and preen, your hair will be silky smooth.
So I kept track of everything money wise. I had to invest about $50 in the beginning, but over the past 5 months, I have saved $648! Just from little things like not buying things I didn't need, impulse buys, buying food in bulk, and probably one of 5he biggest ones, menstrual products.
Would it be possible for you to make a video re the hair washing thing? Or point me in the direction of the information that could help me do that? I've got curly hair and I've been sls+silicone free for a couple of years but still haven't figured it out yet. I've recently realised that rinsing my hair with just water in between washes adds another day before I have to wash it again but I have no idea what I'm doing and none of the curly hair people I follow have discussed it. I always buy good quality clothing with fabrics that are durable. Often those clothes are at the thrift store. Wearing classic, instead of trendy styles saves a lot of money. And they are easier to find second hand. And of course don’t throw those clothes away if they need a minor repair. Often the stitching in new clothes is done on machines so I usually have to reinforce sewing on buttons. Hems come out, no problem. Seams come undone, no problem. Just sew them up. DIY products are so much better as far as quality. And much cheaper. And curls do a lot better if you don’t wash it as often because curls don’t like being barraged with water, let alone soap. I wash my curls once a week with a conditioner. I wash my hair with coconut milk and aloe Vera juice and oil. Rinse with apple cider vinegar to combat the dullness from the hard water where I live. And not drying my curls with a blow dryer makes them so much happier too. I grew up in a world where family shared and swapped clothes, so adopting old fashioned ( grew up in the 70s) methods is awesome. Napkins and handkerchiefs are old fashioned and so elegant and easier on the skin. Drying racks actually make your clothes last longer because the dryer destroys fabrics( that’s what the lint is). 😉 Keep up the good work.
Added benefit to sharing clothes... when you go out with your sister, you don't have to worry that she will be wearing a shirt that looks exactly like yours.
There’s a place here in America called Plato’s closet. They buy name brand practically new clothing from you and sell practically new name brand clothing that’s a)cute/in style and b)new or almost new I find things super cheap compared to new stuff and something things still have the new tags on

Hi. Have just found your channel and am so happy to find a more local to me person to inspire and help me in my new journey towards zero waste. I only really started my journey in December. I am very interested in how you transitioned your hair to washing less. I have already been using LUSH bars of shampoo and conditioner but sometimes find myself wishing i didn't have to wash, as much. I am intrigued to discover how you work around your curls. I have crazy curly hair which ranges from super, fork in a toaster frizz, to a couple of defined ringlets underneath and almost straight on top. I am also thinking of making my own panty liners. but am not a fan of some of the options I have seen which involve poppers and wadding which did not look sustainable and more like hamster bedding! I am looking forward to going back through your videos and perhaps finding the answers to these two questions in past vlogs of yours. Just wanted to say now, Thank you for your tips.
To by new books is really not neccessary because there are so many other options. But to wash your hear once a week maximum or just once in two weeks is still not possible if you are doing sport every second day or for three times a week so i dont know how to handle with that. And yeah, sharing your wardrope with your sister is a bit hard if you havent a sister. :D But all the other points are very helpful and motivating.

Also I've heard their products don't last very long. Do you have a pair of their wireless earphones?
try to take cold showers.. It took me a while to get used to it but once i started i really enjoy them. I play 2 hours of football in the morning and get super sweaty and hot so a 5 minute cold shower wakes me up again and refreshes me for everything else i have to do that day. I noticed i take shorter showers when they're cold because hot showers feel good so you want to stay in longer. In conclusion, taking cold showers will save you water bills and heating bills, while also waking you up and boosting metabolism
Have you researched any eco friendly/biodegradable wastebasket bags? What do you use to line your trash cans, or do you leave them bare and just wash them?
Question on the hair transition: I have super thick hair that I currently have to wash every other day with a good handful of conditioner and a little bit less than a handful of shampoo to get it clean. aliexpress has reusable razors - they are dirt cheap and come with a packet of blades and a carrying case. you can also get a strop to reuse the blades!!

I'm a future librarian and in my studies we saw "where the money was going in the making of a book", and it was really not much for the author (around 8%). But that's maybe just in my country, maybe it is more in the UK, and it is maybe more when it's an ebook ... Anyway, that's just me being crazy about books (librarian ^^) ! Awesome tips, all things I'm slowly transitioning into. The only thing I can not even get into is just wetting hair w water. I usually only wash face w cold water and only wash my hair a few times a week but I put it all up and do NOT get it wet. The Wet dog smell is something I despise even on my partner. Who do you deal w that?

My hair is 2B and all my hair care is in plastic ! :( its all ready hard finding something that doesn't dry my hair out and make it frizzy. I've tried ACV (horrible results !) and I only wash every 2 days . I also live in the middle of the USA and we don't have large shampoo /conditioner dispensers like in the UK .
Always love your videos! Since I had my reusable water bottle, I noticed that I also drink a lot more water! Also (please don't come at me), I was wondering what is the difference between a metal razor and a reusable one. I had my reusable razor for years and usually a pack of 3 blades last me about a year (I just need to change the tip, not the whole thing). Is it because you can recycle the blade? It seems kind of dangerous...
Sarah GH a metal one is better as the only bit you replace is the individual blade which is a thin piece of stainless steel. The blades on reusable ones still are made with plastic round them

Wouldn’t it be great if coffee shops just got rid of takeaway cups. And just didn’t offer them anymore AT ALL. But you could still get a takeaway coffee you just have to bring your own reuseable cup. Same with plastic bags in supermarkets. Just don’t have them available anymore to force people to bring their own reuseable bags. Removing the fall back option and means people would HAVE to think about ☹️ I work in a supermarket and it pains me to see the amount of single use plastic 😢

The way I think of it with my reusable razor it paid for itself in the time I would have used 3 razors from Venus (a us brand I believe?) those run about $7 USD and my reusable was $20 USD so it is wonderful.
That’s how I justified my menstrual cup as well. It paid for itself in 3 months. Breaking it down the tampons I used were about $10 USD a box I went through about a box a period and my cup was about $28 USD
I proved to myself these are all worth it. Just by breaking it down. 💜 Thank you for your videos you inspire me a lot.

since I stopped eating meat i make all my own meals now. for dinner i just make 2 portions and have half for lunch the next day. i used to have breakfast out everyday, but now i make porridge at home

I don't have a fully non-plastic razor, but it is reusable and I can make one head last about a month, and my boyfriend can make his last one shaving (which he does about every other month). Dollar Shave club was so cheap to get the starter kit, and the heads are like $10 a month for 4 and I can skip the months I don't need to refill. I've saved so much money, and now I throw away far less plastic.
Shopping less and using reusables is usually a no-brainer, but the hair point REALLY saves so much money and resources. I used to buy so many hair products, masks, oils etc but after doing the water only method, my hair is in better condition. Of course this doesn't work for everybody but if you do it right (without using overly hot water or stripping products like baking powder) and you remember to scritch and preen, your hair will be silky smooth.
So I kept track of everything money wise. I had to invest about $50 in the beginning, but over the past 5 months, I have saved $648! Just from little things like not buying things I didn't need, impulse buys, buying food in bulk, and probably one of 5he biggest ones, menstrual products.

Would it be possible for you to make a video re the hair washing thing? Or point me in the direction of the information that could help me do that? I've got curly hair and I've been sls+silicone free for a couple of years but still haven't figured it out yet. I've recently realised that rinsing my hair with just water in between washes adds another day before I have to wash it again but I have no idea what I'm doing and none of the curly hair people I follow have discussed it. I always buy good quality clothing with fabrics that are durable. Often those clothes are at the thrift store. Wearing classic, instead of trendy styles saves a lot of money. And they are easier to find second hand. And of course don’t throw those clothes away if they need a minor repair. Often the stitching in new clothes is done on machines so I usually have to reinforce sewing on buttons. Hems come out, no problem. Seams come undone, no problem. Just sew them up. DIY products are so much better as far as quality. And much cheaper. And curls do a lot better if you don’t wash it as often because curls don’t like being barraged with water, let alone soap. I wash my curls once a week with a conditioner. I wash my hair with coconut milk and aloe Vera juice and oil. Rinse with apple cider vinegar to combat the dullness from the hard water where I live. And not drying my curls with a blow dryer makes them so much happier too. I grew up in a world where family shared and swapped clothes, so adopting old fashioned ( grew up in the 70s) methods is awesome. Napkins and handkerchiefs are old fashioned and so elegant and easier on the skin. Drying racks actually make your clothes last longer because the dryer destroys fabrics( that’s what the lint is). 😉 Keep up the good work.
Added benefit to sharing clothes... when you go out with your sister, you don't have to worry that she will be wearing a shirt that looks exactly like yours.
There’s a place here in America called Plato’s closet. They buy name brand practically new clothing from you and sell practically new name brand clothing that’s a)cute/in style and b)new or almost new
I find things super cheap compared to new stuff and something things still have the new tags on
You can get that razor at the dollar tree in the US for a $1 and it comes with 5 razors for when the blade gets dull.

Hi. Have just found your channel and am so happy to find a more local to me person to inspire and help me in my new journey towards zero waste. I only really started my journey in December. I am very interested in how you transitioned your hair to washing less. I have already been using LUSH bars of shampoo and conditioner but sometimes find myself wishing i didn't have to wash, as much. I am intrigued to discover how you work around your curls. I have crazy curly hair which ranges from super, fork in a toaster frizz, to a couple of defined ringlets underneath and almost straight on top. I am also thinking of making my own panty liners. but am not a fan of some of the options I have seen which involve poppers and wadding which did not look sustainable and more like hamster bedding! I am looking forward to going back through your videos and perhaps finding the answers to these two questions in past vlogs of yours. Just wanted to say now, Thank you for your tips.
To by new books is really not neccessary because there are so many other options.
But to wash your hear once a week maximum or just once in two weeks is still not possible if you are doing sport every second day or for three times a week so i dont know how to handle with that.
And yeah, sharing your wardrope with your sister is a bit hard if you havent a sister. :D
But all the other points are very helpful and motivating.

Also I've heard their products don't last very long. Do you have a pair of their wireless earphones?

try to take cold showers.. It took me a while to get used to it but once i started i really enjoy them. I play 2 hours of football in the morning and get super sweaty and hot so a 5 minute cold shower wakes me up again and refreshes me for everything else i have to do that day. I noticed i take shorter showers when they're cold because hot showers feel good so you want to stay in longer. In conclusion, taking cold showers will save you water bills and heating bills, while also waking you up and boosting metabolism
Have you researched any eco friendly/biodegradable wastebasket bags? What do you use to line your trash cans, or do you leave them bare and just wash them?

Question on the hair transition: I have super thick hair that I currently have to wash every other day with a good handful of conditioner and a little bit less than a handful of shampoo to get it clean. aliexpress has reusable razors - they are dirt cheap and come with a packet of blades and a carrying case. you can also get a strop to reuse the blades!!

I'm a future librarian and in my studies we saw "where the money was going in the making of a book", and it was really not much for the author (around 8%). But that's maybe just in my country, maybe it is more in the UK, and it is maybe more when it's an ebook ...

Awesome tips, all things I'm slowly transitioning into. The only thing I can not even get into is just wetting hair w water. I usually only wash face w cold water and only wash my hair a few times a week but I put it all up and do NOT get it wet. The Wet dog smell is something I despise even on my partner. Who do you deal w that?

I love clothes swaps ! You always have such gorgeous curls !! what do you use? My hair is 2B and all my hair care is in plastic ! :( its all ready hard finding something that doesn't dry my hair out and make it frizzy. I've tried ACV (horrible results !) and I only wash every 2 days . I also live in the middle of the USA and we don't have large shampoo /conditioner dispensers like in the UK .

Always love your videos! Since I had my reusable water bottle, I noticed that I also drink a lot more water! Also (please don't come at me), I was wondering what is the difference between a metal razor and a reusable one. I had my reusable razor for years and usually a pack of 3 blades last me about a year (I just need to change the tip, not the whole thing). Is it because you can recycle the blade? It seems kind of dangerous...

Sarah GH a metal one is better as the only bit you replace is the individual blade which is a thin piece of stainless steel. The blades on reusable ones still are made with plastic round them

Wouldn’t it be great if coffee shops just got rid of takeaway cups. And just didn’t offer them anymore AT ALL. But you could still get a takeaway coffee you just have to bring your own reuseable cup. Same with plastic bags in supermarkets. Just don’t have them available anymore to force people to bring their own reuseable bags. Removing the fall back option and means people would HAVE to think about ☹️ I work in a supermarket and it pains me to see the amount of single use plastic 😢
