    I impulse bought this after seeing the video and it's quickly become one of my favorite games even having never played a Zachtronics game before, I would recommend this.

      same. I'm stuck on... I think it's some sort of packet switcher or something. 3 inputs 3 outputs, send the input to the correct output over xbus....

    Space Chem didn’t really have much to do with chemistry, was basically just a framing device and label for the building blocks. For example, there wasn’t anything aside from the objectives stopping you from making O2 but with only one bond.

    • @polyjohn3425
      @polyjohn3425 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol. I'm not disagreeing with you, but I do want to say that of all the things that game could've used, MORE constraints was not really one of them.

    • @Phos9
      @Phos9 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      PolyJohn dunno that it would be harder, hypothetically I’d expect the correct number of bonds to form when two atoms are joined.

    • @LuaanTi
      @LuaanTi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would make most of the game much harder, really - it would mean that you'd need a lot more coordination to get the correct outputs. O=O is a double bond, but what if you need to make a peroxide? Any non-trivial compounds would be really tricky to get right.
      The way I imagined the thing actually working is with very precise controls and isolation. Yes, oxygen likes its double bonds. But not if you don't give it enough electrons. So a O-O bond would really be [O-O](2-), and making another bond would give you O=O. It seems technically possible to do these kinds of magic with sufficiently advanced nanotechnology, though I do wonder what the nano-manipulators themselves would be made of :D

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I mean, that game lets you create uranium through nuclear fusion...
      Fusing anything heavier than Iron is near enough impossible.
      By comparison creating single-bonded O2 would be pretty trivial.
      Especially if the oxygen is in a fully controlled environment the whole time...

    • @vylbird8014
      @vylbird8014 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fusing heavier than iron elements requires energy, rather than releasing it. It can still be done if you don't mind putting energy in. The conditions required are rather extreme though - you either need a particle accelerator, or to blow up a star.

    What I'm really waiting for is a sequel for Constructor: Engineer of the people. This had so much potential and was really fun. With more QOL and player-constructed abstraction layers this could be a real "from npn to commandline" thing. Like, first you make some logic gates, then ALU, Ram and stuff, resulting in a CPU+EMORY system (It is more than doable, you can do it in MHRD in a day). With some love you can have a keyboard and a monitor with custom protocols. Aaand then you write some assembly code, a driver for a monitor, and, finally, CLI with basic instructions. That would be nice.

    I think this game is much more like Infinifactory than it is like Shenzhen IO. While this game definitely shows the UI improvements that Zachtronics made while developing Shenzhen, the gameplay is much more like Infinifactory in that there's so much more space, and it's an assembly line game for crying out loud! It's all about allocating space and planning movement of physical particles. I used to think Infinifactory was their easiest game, since it's much easier to create a working machine, but I think this game makes it even easier to solve a puzzle. I guess it shows that for these types of games, the user really has to _force_ themselves to optimize to get any good gameplay out of the game. I guess I liked the programming games more because they forced me to optimize, rather than let me choose to force myself to optimize.

      well, this is more like a remake of the very first zachtronics game - which was something to do with alchemical engineering, and even involves rotating arms.
      So really this is a remake/sequel to the game that inspired spacechem.
      (making this is the older concept)

    • @Silvergrooves42
      @Silvergrooves42 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very much more accesible. There is a thread on steam with people just making stupid solutions. Those are big, ugly , costly machines that could probably be made in a "better" way. But guess what? It gets the job done! It just does the freaking thing, and it's just as valid as any other solution. They even have more artistic/aesthetic pleasing patterns than some of the top solutions

    ...a game that marries programming, chemistry, and mysticism. Huh, 'magine nat!

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HuntingTarg Well, alchemists always were the most methodical and 'scientific' of the magical arts. XD
      There's a reason modern chemistry still shares many conceptual similarities with alchemy, yet all the other kinds of 'magic' have basically just been left behind entirely.

    • @HuntingTarg
      @HuntingTarg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      KuraIthys indeed.
      You could say methodical - there are many other 'methods' besides the scientific approach. Some of the ancient mystical ways were based on simply superstition.
      While I subscribe to scientific tradition, I acknowledge that science has limitations circumscribed by its scope of inquiry - the study of observable, measurable phenomena.
      All the same, looks like a fun game :]

      @jackvernian7779 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cubert Miso
      do you mind if I give you my opinion?
      I think it could be viable as a by-product of an extreme drop in price of rocket parts and active use of LEO insertion vehicles, that is if the space travel was booming as is, so much so that it could compete with airlines, you, perhaps, could sort of fit in a market of suborbital transportation, so that UK-dysney flight would take only less than an hour start to finish, but then again, fuel is fuel, and I don't see it getting much cheaper in comparison to the amount that kerosene jets use, so no matter how cheap you can make suborbital rocket flight, you can always make airplane flight cheaper. Maybe if the space travel becomes so incredibly widespread that rocket engines and tanks(mass production surplus) will cost significantly less than a jet engine, under those unrealistic conditions, you might be on to something with suborbital rocket travel from point A to point B.
      Overall I think the idea is unrealistic to say the least even if we consider 80% reusability, since the fuel, well... You have to burn a lot of fuel to get something up to those speeds, and you have to carry your oxidizer with you too.
      I think Elon Musk used this image as a pretty picture to attract more attention. Small evil, to be honest, but an evil nonetheless.
