Hey Don are you flying from a boat or shore? I love that they dont even care that you are there. I was flying my Mavic over there a few years ago and they would dive every time I tried to drop down for a little closer view.
I am flying from a boat. I am surprised you say the whales would dive down if you approached with the drone?!? Legally you are not to approach them in less that 100 meters (which I think was a lazy and inconsiderate adaptation of a rule that was written before drones existed. The "temporary" rule that is still in place mentions the likelihood of this restriction being revisited which has yet to happen) but it's ok if they come towards you. But I have not experienced any awareness or response to the Mavic drone or even the Phantom which was louder and larger?!? How close did you get and how certain are you that it was the approach of the drone that caused their behavior??!?
@@donmcleish Definitely not certain but it sure seemed that way. I was still several hundred feet above them. I was way over the legal height limit just trying to scan the horizon to see anything. As soon as I saw them I tried to get closer and lost them a few times. It was when I was a newbie so had a hard time keeping track of what I would find. Cant wait to go back and hopefully get even a taste of what you see. Love the videos. Thanks
