    I purchased my Black Cat Cougar cutting machine just 4 days ago. I quickly realised that I needed a designing program to work in conjunction with the cutter and purchased the Cuts A Lot Pro 4. Totally lost, I had no idea of it's capabilities until I came across your videos. While I have only seen Basic 1 & Basic 2 I am excited about the possibilities of what I can achieve. I would like to thank you for the generosity of your time in producing these videos and imparting your knowledge onto to all the newbies out there. Your teaching method is to be commended and I look forward to the other videos as I am able to comprehend and retain the information that they provide. Thank you again.

      I am so sorry it has been so long before I could reply. I did not receive a notification of your comment. I will create another video explaining the text tools, but I wonder why some areas were cut off. I will see what I can do. Yes, you can absolutely bring projects you make into Cricut Design Space. All you need to do is export your design from SCAL in SVG format. You can then open the project in Design Space by uploading it. I will also include this in the tutorial.

    There were a few things I was hoping to be covered in one of the two basics videos.
    1) I would like to know what is the cut border for the cameo 3 mat? I generally set my x,y coordinates to .250 to leave a 1/4" margin around my designs. Doing this however makes anything near the top margin invisible to the cameo and it just doesn't cut it.
    2) What is the drop down menu at the far right of the grey bar the holds the pages? When I click on it, it does nothing.
    3) I also noticed on the Position & Size menu there was no explanation of how the relative position works.

    I cannot get the RC Merge on the very end of your video - when you have a shadow layer and to create an outline you said to right click and merge - the only merge I can find is to select and go to OBJECT merge - which seemed to do the same thing but I have played that part of video several times but again because the pointer is large its hard to see what you do quickly.

    • @SDIVADesigns
      @SDIVADesigns  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cyndi Parker You would use pages to organize your project. You can have different versions of something, you can have components of a layout (title, shapes) or other type of project. It really is a way to organize different things that you want to keep separate for some reason. If you don't have the Pro version, you can put different things on different pages depending on the colour you want to cut (the Pro version has cut by colour). You may never need to use pages, but they can be very handy.

    • @SDIVADesigns
      @SDIVADesigns  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joan Wiese I worked in the computer industry for several years and then translated computer related texts for over 20 years. I also wrote some computer manuals. For those translations and manuals, I had to install the client's software and learn it inside out to be able to write about it. I also worked directly in software code at clients' sites so I really know my way around figuring things out in software. I taught myself WordPerfect 5.1 back in the days of DOS, just before Windows was first released. I could make that program do anything I wanted. People in my office came to me for computer help back then too ;) It all started when we received a computer from our head office and I was told to leave it packed until a technician came in to set everything up. I didn't listen and set it all up, never having touched a computer before. I discovered there was a game on the computer (Donkey Kong) and managed to play. Then I decided I'd better erase my tracks so I typed "del *.*" ... little did I know that meant EVERYTHING, including the emulation program the company had installed so we could use the head office's MAPICs system. DOS always asked if you were sure and I typed Y thinking "duh, why would I type it if I wasn't sure". Then I realized what I'd done. Luckily, there was a computer office next door to us and they told me not to worry. Erasing only marks things for erasure and that they would come over and take care of it for me. That's when I learned that computers were challenging and very cool, but not something to be afraid of!

      Wow Karin I'm impressed. That is something that I would do. I started with the radio shack tandy and was connected to the tv. I was always ahead of the time and had such an interest in computers. Now it seems like everyone surpassed me. Love it. But unfortunately I'm a computer immigrant not a computer native. I look forward to more scal videos.

      Scrappy DIVA I found it.. to the right of the Layer tool bar.. there are some little lines.. hard to see. If you click on them , there is the option to "move layer to page" I had seen this in a different video but could not find it. It is helpful when cutting out different colours of vinyl. You can create the design on one layer, add registration marks, move part of the design to a new page and it will be in the right location for layering the design later. Cut and paste will move the design but may not be in the right position for layering later.

    It is great that you make these videos to help new users to scal but as a novice I get totally confused because you move so fast from item to item. It would be great if you could slow down so a novice could absorb exactly what you are teaching us. Thank you for all your help.

    If you need help, you will need to join my group on Facebook at facebook.com/groups/vinyladdictions ... I usually ask you to post a screen shot of what you are doing so I can see what you see. This isn't possible on TH-cam.
