A BIG Step Forward (in the downstairs bathroom)

- Some time ago we installed a flushing toilet - a most welcome addition to our renovation project in Portugal (since we'd not had a conventionally working toilet for over two years). But, when we installed that toilet we knew the plumbing was temporary and we'd have to come back to redo it - and plumb hot and cold feeds for a sink and bidet hose (aka bum gun).
Today we're back on the renovation project and going to attempt to install all the plumbing in our downstairs cloakroom. This will involve finding some way of attaching all the pipework to the stone walls, concealing it and making sure every appliance is isolated and everything that needs to be accessible is accessible.
We'll be plumbing using multicamada - or multilayer - pipe which is a type of pex using 20mm for the main feed and 16mm for all the individual appliances.
Will it all go surprisingly smoothly or will we have to deal with a bunch of issues and leaks. Let's find out!
I am always just speechless when I see how Kylie tackles each challenging project !!! Your secret to success is your preparation !!! Durban SA 🇿🇦
I’ve been puzzling this one in my mind for a couple of months. Oh so happy it worked 😃
Nice work you two. Loving the "CAD" (cardboard assisted design). I am sure the vanity cabinet will be amazing out-of reclaimed timber.Take care, D
"CAD" design. 😊
What is the correct name for that. Template or templet?
@@mrkvomiltato871 - the correct name is Template but bad English pronunciation, pronounces it "templet". Some still pronounce it temp-late, accent on the first syllable..
@@sheilam4964 Thank you.

A “bum gun”!! After 16 years in the Middle East it is an essential tool of the bathroom, great for squirting skiddies off the toilet bowl too! 😅
Great vid!
So eloquently articulated m'dear.👀🙈 🤣🤣🤣😁
And the female "bye" at the end is back. Yay.
You're absolute geniuses!!!! What a puzzle to put that system together. Congrats and I'm sure that it finally will turn out great!!! See you!!!!
Held my breath when you drilled the tile. Good job.😊
I learned something new again today from your video. My little renovation will be easier because I have learned so much from your work. Thank you for sharing your videos to us. Sending love from Italy
*Kylie, that is a real tidy set of plumbing pipes that you have done.. You could put a whole lot of so called plumbers to shame... but to not get myself in the poo over this comment.. I would like to state that real professional plumbers would also place everything tidy like you have done as well. 🙂.*
I love watching you work together! The laughter is back. Great job, well done. Thank you for sharing! Particularly liked the tempo of the crimp scene!!
My sentiments exactly!
The downstairs is looking lovely, flooded with light and all that lovely texture & warmth in the walls.
I had to fix a toilet to the floor but chose to secure it with silicone instead of risk drilling through tile. Worked a treat and doesn't budge at all.
Hi Guys! My family worked on stone buildings and i grew up watching them always drilling and cutting stone with water. Good luck!
Tension while drilling the tile. The planning, the laying it all out, the trial, all before the commitment and execution is SO interesting to watch.
Hugs from 🇨🇦
Starting my seeds very soon. You have gotten me more excited about getting that all worked out. Looks like a great start for your gardening with some great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
I installed a near identical bidet hose unit in my bathroom but for comfort and safety I added a thermostatic blending valve set to 39 centigrade. No surprises!!
By-the-way, you're winding your thread sealant/PTFE in the wrong direction. With the fitting in your left hand it should go on clockwise or from the top away from you. Otherwise great job.
Kylie you are incredible! You are the hardest worker I’ve seen in a long time. You inspire me ❤
Ye two are amazing. Greetings from Ireland..slightly late happy St Patrick's Day.
Another great video, love watching how you problem solve. Good luck with the vanity can’t wait to see it!
Like you I don't like exposed plumbing so we have used concealed cisterns with our toilets, hidden behind a false wall with a removable shelf on top for easy access for maintenance. The back of the loo fits flat to the false wall. The toilet pan is fixed to the floor with silicone and does not move. Great job guys.❤
We’ve done that before, and considered it for this house but think it’s a little too modern for the ‘rustic charm’ we’re trying to achieve 😀
I think you should make a removeable plate maybe stainless, to easily attach and remove the toilet without bolting through tile. Else you endenger the tile whenever you need to remove the toilet.
You both are such an inspiration. Been following you a little before the lock down in 2019. It helped keep my sanity. Very talented and hard working. Building your dreamhome is the best thing ever
I had the crimp system done on my renovation apartment in Lagos PT eighteen years ago, and made the mistake of having it all tiled over because it was all leak tested and proved. several years latter damp patches appeared on adjacent walls. Happily insurance covered the repair. I think the process has improved over time. On repairing those cracked limestone tiles, save the swarf dust ( or make some from a random bit of tile) and push it into the cracks and then carefully apply CA glue (super glue) to the crack, it'll set up good.
Why not get a Japanese toilet that is an experience in itself. But I know you two have to experiment the hell out of everything to get the desired result, which we all love to watch. Good luck buildind the same result.
We have that design of bidet next to our toilet. It works very well.
Lovely to see you both back at it. You work so blooming hard. I'm a grafter, but I wouldn't take that on ❤
Please bear in mind that although you have a "bum gun", you will still need toilet paper to dry yourself afterwards, unless you're just going to "drip dry"! hahaha. I live in Dubai, and they are in every bathroom here, but I still can't get myself to use one, as the thought of spraying faeces all over my bathroom is just something I can't bring myself to do! I just use mine to clean the toilet! Good luck with it though 😆
It’s so good to see you guys again.I know you need a break now and then, but I miss you guys.I love watching you guys working together on your dream house thank you so much for sharing your dreams with us.Ed from Michigan
You work so well together. I love the way Kylie works everything out and then just sets to. I've always done my own DIY but not on this scale.I can't abide helpless women who are frightened they might chip their nail polish.
You are getting things done!!! 🥰🎶❤️🎶🏡🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Great progress. Have a great week😊
Well done you’ve gone back from your burnout you stop you’ve got to realize how much you’ve done. It’s so complex as well. I just couldn’t do it myself. Well done Anna in Arizona.
WOW your work is very admirable
The Queen and King of Plumbing!
Missed your content. Love your work.
❤❤❤nice plumbing
That is amazing, I've always wanted a bidet, and a floor drain like they have in Finland! I also say kudos for a hot and cold water bidet!
Water, it makes cutting through tile and stone faster and easier.
So if i ever emigrate to Portugal, you got the plumbing job.😁. Greetings from Hamburg
Hi, Kylie and Gus. Good job on moving the toilet.
One tip about drilling the stone that’s worked for me in the past is to sharpen the masonry drills just a couple of touches on a grinder is enough they don’t have to be fancy you just need to the hardened steel to be sharp at the end when your not using the hammer drill 😊👍
I hope the next stage will be a bathroom to improve your level of comfort.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of toilet. The flush performance looks woeful. In addition the bend in the pipe sticking out from the floor looks rather sharp and a cause for frequent backups - depending of course on the load!
LMAO! You say, "I think you shouldn't say private parts." Right after Kylie is talking about a reach around 😂😂😂
Try placing tape over the spot you drill it should help prevent cracking
I'm wondering if we are going to get to see a practical demonstration of this bidet accessory /contraption ? 😮😊 There is a very nice Japanese WC/combo bidet with only one serious consideration: the price.
old plumber here all looks good and well thought out! now this is not a negative just food for thought. try when laying out you plumbing runs to leave more space between fittings for changes or possible leak repairs. my2cents
Really nice editing/format on this one, very satisfying crimping. 😄
Multi-layered 3d problems and the jigsaw puzzle is solved. Nice 😅
My goodness where did you get all the Elvis hair from. Love all your videos and that you are on board again. Looking forward to more renovating fun. Glad you're slowing down though. Most people once they move in slow down anyways. Happy reno.
Well done you chaps.I believe installing a bidet is very tricky and if not managed correctly will end up being used as a place to toss your towel or discarded clothing in. In the house we bought years ago it happened that way for us due to pressurized water coming out of places other than the proper one when used. Your private parts remarks reminded me of me old Dad ,father of four daughters who referred to that area of the body as the undercarriage .The upper torso was one’s superstructure. ❤
Things are looking good
You two amaze me.i love watching you figure it out.❤️🇨🇦
Oooooooh, get you with your fancy flushing toilet, and no leaks 🤣we're sticking with composting, our loo isn't even in the house, until such time as we can multiply our wormery and they can handle a flushing system for the indoor option👍
Looking good I have shared your video very interesting 😊
Those crimp systems are great but the manual tool is not as good as the powered tool to crimp the fittings. It is cheaper but after a while i have found they leak where the manual crimper has been used. No issues with the powered type.
You did such a neat job. Honestly it looked like art.
I purchased a bidet seat from Amazone and since I don't have somewhere close to the toilet to plug in to get hot water, I got the one that only shoots cold water. At first I found it very cold (canadian Winters, you know) but I got used to it and hate to go to other toilets now.
It was really easy to install and I don't have to deal with a hose.
I made my own wipes out of facechoths I purchased on line as well, which I cut in 3 and sewed with the zizzag stich. I bought a pack of 36 and cut most of them into wipes. So I have plenty. I do still keep toilet paper on hand for weary visitors, lol.
Securing a toilet. Planning for a semi permanent repurposed sink/storage/bidet cabinet. Shape and color should be interesting.
I broadly agree with your want of invisible plumbing (and probably other services) but if you don't stop micromanaging the small stuff you will still be renovating when you my age, ie 70.
4:37 some tape onto tile first, to stop drill bit slipping, and use a very small drill bit (diamond pointed if poss.) before the size you need.
The tiles on which you did the testing surely weren't glued onto the floor?
I suggest you re-do your test with glued down tile work and you will see that it won't crack when you put pressure on it and with a hammer drill setting.
Fabulous, love the idea of the “bum gun”. I used used them all the time in Bali and Thailand.
I did not get all of that blumbing-order. We have here in Nordic "always" sink on reach of toilet-seat, so when there an mix of suitable water temp with other hand done, and then grab the bidet hose like as "Oras Stela 4807F Bidetta", wich have the actuator; trigger to let the ordered temp and volume water to come from there. So it is the same blumbing for both, as the bidet hose comes from the sink taps sideway outlet or whatever it is in english.
Your plumbing work is so neat it's a shame to hide it!
Thanks
Nice bit of plumbing you two. All nicely worked out, well done
Its easier to start small then move on to a larger drill bit. However; i have found it far easier to use a craft hand “pen” on tile. Its gentle, faster & doesnt crack the tile
Personall, I'd use adhesive to fix the toilet down. It will be far,far more than adequate and there is no chance of piercing any pipework, heating mats or compromising damp-proofing. CT-1 or Sikaflex etc., will render any toilet absolutely bomb proof and ensure that the substrate is undamaged should the pan ever need to be changed for another model.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Yes. We're thinking about getting a bum gun cos we haven't got room for a bidet. We got into the whole bum gun thing after travelling in asia. Makes perfect sense if you're not on mains sewers and don't want to deal with the toilet paper the, er, greek way....
We came up with a polite wording notice for visitors using our toilet, it said; "Please do not put anything in this toilet you've not previously eaten."
Brilliant and great job!
i enjoy watching you two work.
Bravo on excellent work, please do have some information about the cost of the renovation? Thanks
Amazing to view new interesting fixtures for you designer home.🎉😀🏰
Much love and respect.
Those PEX crimp connections are actually kind of reversible - you can buy the shells and the small o-rings separately (at least where I live) and reuse the connections (which are the most expensive part) in case you have to remake a connection.
The guy at our building shop explained just that to us, we had no idea. Pretty clever!
We have a growing collection of parts that we need to pull apart so we can reuse 😀
My bidet is cold only and surprisingly it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
❤❤❤❤
Good result! Job done!❤
Words from the throne it must be right
You need put tape like Cruz in tile and drilling in top the tape. And stop brake the tile.
put a cross of tape.. gaffer will do.. and then drill through the tile through the tape.
Being from the USA can you explain to me the use of a bidet? How can you wash your private parts without drying them off, I am confused? So do you use a hair blower after using the bidet to dry off?
Some people dry, with a cloth or even toilet paper, many just drip dry (weather and clothing dependant)
We have a towel rail with two bars. The hand towel drapes over the higher rail, the towel for drying after bidet use goes on the lower rail. It's a heated towel rail. Two of us in the house. We do have toilet roll for the use of visitors.
We change the bidet towels daily, they bring small sized and made of thin cotton.
You too make a great team
Well done you two!!
You bolt down a lavvie and thousands watch. You two have really picked up a devoted following. I am more of a veggie patch man, this was...different.
Yeah, we don’t understand why either 😂
Gardening video coming very soon
Well done but I can't help wondering why you didn't just get an allin one Japanese loo, just saying.
I have one of those baday options in each bathroom and only have cold water available. I hate it when I have to use the restroom away from home.
תודה ❤❤❤
ongoing great
Understand your desire for a bidet pump with a fosse but here in rural France for over 15 years using a fosse, we have never had a problem using fosse-friendly toilet paper from intermarché. Never suffered any suggestion of a blockage and as this is your ground floor facility - likely to be used by guests - will you provide paper nonetheless as some may be uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the process? Certainly UK style cushion comfort 3ply is a big no-no and should be confiscated from guests at the door 🙂
Hi there, so can I ask where the cold water leak was from, possabkle srcew fitting and not a crimp fitting. Till your next video, good luck
Yep, one of the compression fittings … another half turn fixed it 😃
👍❤️🇦🇺
If I put it in my pocket, it will pull my pants down
I have never even seen a bidet , how do you dry off?
Different people do different things .. drip dry (subject to weather and what you’re wearing), toilet paper (which kinda defeats one of the purposes of having a bidet in my opinion), or a small towel. We’ll be going for the towel option (probably crocheted with cotton, easy to throw in the wash)
❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍💯
I must admit, to my shame, I work with some wonderful young, newly qualified MBA students from India and I thought they all used a 'squatter hole' and a constantly running tap with poop everywhere and a most horrendous smell .... or 'long drop' toilets, or the fields... Obviously I'm an idiot, because these pretty young things (middle class?) use a bum gun very similar to yours.
Except I couldn't remember the name you gave it so I told them British/Australian TH-camrs call them 'Mud guns' and had to explain why I thought that was right ...
and in times Upset Tummy...... toilet paper turns to sand paper....so what you have is a better option
