His response to the podcast guy was so professional, but not stiff at all. Just honest and kind, really. Why would you go on and ask someone like that if his agent has already politely declined??
Yes, he was honest to the dude, that's generous so it doesn't even feel like rejection, it's a lovely answer and insight into James's personal journey, a gift.
The guy did that to peer pressure james (someone who on the outside looks like he would be weak to that kind of thing) total dick head, i guess thats why
To be honest, it takes a special kind of awful to go to an event with James Acaster, in which he clearly states he's taking more breaks and practicing saying; 'No.' and then try and whine on about his podcast. James even bravely mentiones how the therapist he trusted, betrayed his trust, how can you ignore all of that and demand him to come over on your podcast? (Just incase James reads this, bytheway, therapists can (and should!) be nice and kind and understanding and not force you to reveal more than you want or go faster than your own pace. So if you ever feel like visiting (a good) one again, please do, they can help people a lot.) I'm just happy to see that, despite the fact it probably took a lot of energy and caused a lot of stress, James managed to stay polite and tell the guy off. He should do that more often. He's already spoiling everyone with so many video's and visits to shows. Good luck James, please keep standing up for yourself.
Amazing to hear such authenticity and openness about real life mixed with just funny stuff. Thank you for taking the steps to care for yourself, James Acaster! Those of us who love your work are more than happy to wait a bit for more stuff if it means you’re happy and healthy! 🐇🥰🐇
James Acaster is a very smart guy. I was glad to hear him talk seriously. Wish I had picked therapists more carefully. The last one was really bad for me. Great advice about time off, work ethic, and going to performances where you share things with others in the audience!
Hope you found a better therapist, mate. It's all about finding someone who clicks with you and you feel listens and understands what you say. Kinda obvious to say, perhaps, but I know how that feels.
I am so happy he put that guy in his place lol! Amazing! Loved this, wish there was a little more chemistry between James Acaster and Rob Auton though. James Acaster is such a classy guy!
it's so weird tho that even if i'm not part of the physical show, it feels like i'm part of the crowd listening to James. He does a good job with including and interacting with the audience
To put him on the spot like that after James' agent had turned down the request was unnecessary and rude. If podcast fool was compelled to ask, at least wait until afterwards.
Hundreds of years ago there was this very eccentric British Lord who had a zebra-pulled carriage and a pet bear and in - presumably a very prolonged moment of madness - he dug a series of tunnels under Birmingham (UK) ...all I'm saying is thank goodness James found music!
I was there, and asked the first question. Sorry about it though, in my defence, I was going through a confused out of depth phase. James probably understood
I thought it was a really good question mate. James didn't quite get to his answer in finding something deeper, which I would have like to hear about too. So I appreciate you asking it.
I think I have only seen James Acaster while "preforming", or... playing whatever character he is. Hearing him talking like a normal person is interesting. (In a good way)
James Acaster could make this chick into chicks turn! I'm a mixed tape chick and I know that exact look you get when you hand over those many hours of work getting that message in almost 80 minutes of music just right for the person. And I got frustrated when a particular friend of mine took my opus, complete with instructions to listen to it for the first time, lights out, with a beer, completely through from start to finish, and then just loaded it on his computer and played it randomly with all his other music. Message killed mate. I got more out of it than he did. Thank God I made a copy for me too. My most shared compilation: Songs for the frustrated: When you want to tell the world to just f**k off. I'm a mixed tape making addict. You know you are when you ignore band 'best ofs ' and make your own...
A mixed tape is like a fart - you think yours is alright, but everyone else thinks it stinks. To expect someone to sit through 80 minutes of someone else's music (in the dark with a beer) is asking way too much of them. I agree mixed tapes are cute but they should contain like 10 songs at most and shouldn't come with a set of instructions.
At 23:23 James mentions Okilly Dokilly and the album Howdilly Doodilly. This is a link to "White Wine Spritzer" by that band from that album (the opening of with which, this video closes). th-cam.com/video/2BEvh6HSQc0/w-d-xo.html
Deep frying my mix tapes! I would have died. I left a bunch from my best friend in the auditorium mezzanine in high school where I was hiding out by myself during a free period, but had taken a wander and didn't make it back to my stuff before I had to go to my next class. I didn't remember until the next day. Never saw them again. Gutted.
Yeah just because somebody calls them self a therapist, doesn't mean to say that they are majorly qualified or suitable. It's best to look around and see to try to find out what the professional psychologist is all about, and work out if you can relate to each other, if you think the same - and if you like them and can maintain a good rapport, then they are perfect for you. that therapist corned him and abused his personal trauma to manipulate him, I hope when his ready takes her to the law cause that woman should have her license revoked immediately.
Love your shit. But I'm down with you James I've dj'd in bournemouth for year n half on vinyl and cd s it's all about what you like. Keep on your style. Eventually the flow follows. . BOSS

Podcast guy came across like a total narcissist. I was quite surprised when he didn't try to self-promote while he still had the mic.

Heartbreaking part of the book that is, felt like a proper betrayal
“There is a lot of relationships we get into in life where we are not told how it is meant to work.” Very true
Any of them?
acaster realizes how much time is put into making someone a playlist--

Thanks for saying this. Totally agree
Agree! 🙃

52:45 for the podcast question
Thank you! Seen a lot of comments about it but couldn’t find it lol
I genuinely adore this man ❤️ intelligent, hilarious and just a genuinely good soul. His smile is everything ❤️
😍
Truly lovely smile
What a beautiful mind has he! I discovered him from 8 out of ten and as a almost 75 year old Alaskan; I must say he is my own "masters voice...
I am so happy he put that guy in his place lol! Amazing! Loved this, wish there was a little more chemistry between James Acaster and Rob Auton though. James Acaster is such a classy guy!
Great that the festival organiser mispronounces James's last name. Classy.
Oh shut up. Who cares?

It's unprofessional, laf and skweelur.
@@loveandsqualor6034 I care. And my opinion is worth more than yours.

@@hellopeoplez8636 that's just life, mate.
Music mixes are my love language. Now I know why I love James so much.
The guy getting shut down for the podcast invite. You love to see it

dude has such a strange and marvelous mind
I agree!
I have SO much envy for his MEMORY.
I love his jumper
He always wears the best clothes 🥰😍
He's always got great footwear on
To put him on the spot like that after James' agent had turned down the request was unnecessary and rude. If podcast fool was compelled to ask, at least wait until afterwards.
Love James Acaster! He's incredibly funny
Was in front row, was a privilege.
Me too!
At 40:55 which one are you?
Many talented comedians ...and Nish Kumar!
Boy that's a burny zing there!!!!!!
Ah, bless him. He’s a sweet boy.

I love it when people throw their hands around because they don’t care 🥰🥰🥰
Wished the mod was better 😕 To cut off James from finishing his story about his therapist was kind of rude imo. Wanted to know how his story ended...
Sorry, but what does “imo” mean?

Yeah,James and me understood 😅
You did confused the hell outta some people in the audience tho 😂

Yeh James is all about keepin it real about how ya feel, a shining invitation to be yourself whatever it is
I’m sure he got what you were getting at man ^.^
I would love to hear the two tapes of lushness mixtapes!
EDIT: NEVERMIND.

James dropping Sikth at a pub in Kettering. The force is fucking strong with this one 💜
thank you for posting!
Best way to read a book , front to back
I came to see this just for 37:00 The person who asked the question is great person.
This interview pushed me to do stand-up
3 years later, how is that going?

Hermione HAIR-ME-OWN haha
Was in the back row. Wish I was a bit closer to front
Was in my pants watching this at home. Wish I was in the same country at least.
was at home, got all of the Acaster with none of the wait/discomfort/financial expense - just great mate
The interviewer is super awkward but it's quite endearing. I saw James earlier this year and I wish I'd bought his book now.
At 23:23 James mentions Okilly Dokilly and the album Howdilly Doodilly. This is a link to "White Wine Spritzer" by that band from that album (the opening of with which, this video closes).

The shoes
He's always got those Avengers trainers on. Every gig!
As a counter argument: The socks
Theyre pretty cool i think
Loved the shoes! 😂
Danny Berentson hahaha
💚 fried lushness
James is definitely not someone I expected to know Sikth and I love him even more to find out he does
Literally blew my mind haha
He is exactly the right age to know who they are and he was in a band, so, makes sense to me
The only time i ever DJ'd (playing stuff i liked not the crowd) and only song i rem playing was pussyfoot by Sikth. So funny to hear that.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that's the first time SikTh have been mentioned at any book festival.
I can only imagine what Bland Street Boom would do to the men and women inside a pub in Kettering
“Listening to the bends over & over again” 👁👄👁
Ketring sounds cool...I want to visit
You read books in Scotland?
i want to know which sikth track it was....

It won't help harassing his podcast or channel, it'll only give him more views.
But I understand the urge. :)

geez the story about the therapist is *scary*. unethical is not even enough to describe that behavior.
I have never seen him dress like that
lmao Sikth is the randomest band he could have chosen for a DJ gig, why did he think that was a good idea
