    Your acceptance speech was one of the greatest EVER !
    The beautiful acknowledgement of your wife was so very loving and heartfelt and quite inspiring, and she looked absolutely stunning, by the way! 🎉

    4m into the video and I've already laughed a bunch and also have a tear in my eye. Waleed Aly is a deadset legend. Happy to see an intelligent commentator be publicly lauded - indeed, win a popularity contest - despite sharing opinions that rip on the status quo and piss a lot of people off. In addition to a high profile Muslim man getting the gong, it makes me excited to think that he didn't somehow question and console himself into obscurity, but that there is a wave of support for these kinds of views that will carry him to these heights.

    • @nicholasfisher4952
      @nicholasfisher4952 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plenty of news outlets have access to ISIS material which they use for the purpose of reporting on it - what's your point there?
      Your comments about Waleed's wife don't make any sense, but from what I could glean you're saying she withheld an ISIS flag from the police, or refused to get them one, or maybe said that lots of people have the flags? There's literally nothing I can find on Google about her doing that, but I can quite easily find stories where she argues against ISIS and against terrorism - so what's your point there?
      Additionally, the 'ISIS' flag isn't specifically an ISIS flag it's a fairly generic flag/banner that has been hijacked for other purposes. You know, like when drunken shitdicks drape themselves in the Aussie flag and beat up Middle Eastern people on Australia day, as well as European people who kind of look Middle Eastern - because being a drunken violent shithead in a flag making us look like fools to the rest of the world is a really awesome way to be patriotic.
      So yeah, the only part of your post that was vaguely close to a decent point was that I'm a legend.

    • @nicholasfisher4952
      @nicholasfisher4952 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The right wing use rationality and the left wing are purely emotive?
      Why the made up stats, slippery slope scare tactics and baseless fearmongering, then? Why are you wilfully ignoring the fact I stated above, that the 'ISIS flag' isn't actually an ISIS flag, so you can maintain the notion that Waleed's wife supports terrorists? I'm sure plenty of mosques sell Muslim flags with Muslim prayer messages on them, which is what the supposed 'ISIS' flag is?
      People like you live in a conservative nightmare, where everyone is your enemy. You then make it come true by running around being assholes to everyone until they hate you, and then cry foul about how everyone can hate your supposed 'values' of freedom and equality - which only seconds ago you were betraying by running around spewing racism and aggression.

      ***** Good job on being a 'rational' right wing person. I really see your point now, having been schooled on all those facts, statistics, and detailed analysis.
      Thanks for playing kiddo.

      'Hidden by police and press' is a convenient excuse for conspiracy theorists to hide behind so that they don't have to provide any evidence for their bullshit claims. You know that the one world government is also hiding the existence of reptile overlords who use chemtrails to dose us all with mind controlling nanobots that compel us to take autism causing vaccines, right? Jet fuel can't melt steel beams, and all that.
      As if The Australian and the Daily Telegraph would hide daily Muslim shootouts in Australia's largest city. Hell, if Rupert Murdoch caught wind of just one shootout, he'd shoot jizz all over his computer and immediately buy 3 more newspapers to run a front page story in.
      It's rich you calling me a 'know all know nothing' when you spew a bunch of unsubstantiated bullshit.
      I work with people of colour and Muslims on a daily basis, and you know what? We get along perfectly well. I think you're the one who needs to go live with a bunch of Muslims for a while, and see that you not only last a month but that you continue to live a perfectly ordinary life and no-one's coming to get all Sharia up in your bacon sandwich.
      You can only hold such ridiculous, dumbass views from within a whitebread, uneducated, easily influenced world.
      I'm done with you brah. Go jerk off to a Leni Riefenstahl film or something.

    Why was his speech "surprising"? Why not heartfelt, or interesting or amazing or gripping? Hopefully his winning of this award will put an end to boring anglo expectations, desires and prejudices or stereotyping, and lead to a much more interesting, inclusive society where we are not "surprised" by events and/or people but "delighted" by their difference.

      Israel pays people to bomb Arabs...even gives them generous pensions when they have finished dropping cluster and incendiary bombs on the population...women children schools hospitals ...all bombed by paid assasins in helicopters and bomber jets.
      Oh...and then they forge australian passports to assasinate islamic leaders in other countries...how righteous of them.
      And...how pathetic of you to draw such a comparison to Aleed on a day which should be marking his success instead of venting your phobic attitudes to islam.

    Waleed seems like a decent guy, but its always confusing when a Muslim lectures westerners on equality and acceptance. He supports a religion that discriminates and abuses human rights, and does not accept women as equals. If you are gay or atheist, forget it, your life is in danger. 9 out of the top 10 countries that abuse human rights and womens rights, are Muslim countries, and I have heard Waleed defending human rights abuses in the name of Islam. In many Muslim countries, non-muslims are excluded by law for civil service and government jobs, persecution of minorities in Muslim countries is as bad as it gets anywhere in the world. In many Muslim countries you can be arrested, jailed, or attacked by an angry mob just for questioning the system, or Islam, or the religious leaders. After hearing Waleed defend human rights abuses in the name of Islam, I find it a little hypocritical to lecture us. Muslims have more rights, more freedoms, and more justice in western countries than they have in their own countries.

      +tubester4567 There are 79 Christian countries where I could be arrested for my sexuality; don't pretend your comments are anything more than cherry picking to support racist views. Something being wrong in one place does not mean you can't encourage improvement in another and Waleed doesn't represent every Muslim in every culture. Saying 'Waleed makes good points but..' is just an attempt to dismiss and invalidate his points because they don't benefit you.

    I find it strange that Waleed does his best to point out that Australia is a racist Country ,A lot of this so called racism is actually and especially in Waleeds case more about Islamification , Its not about you being brown Waleed. I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne, there were so many different nationalities and people get on very well .But unlike Lakemba mosque in Sydney we do not have those agitator type Imans. I think Australians do not have a problem with Muslims in general , but I think people should be more informed that there are different varieties of Islam and it is the "Wahabi" Sunnis that actually are causing the greatest problems. I am against stopping Muslims from coming to Australia, thats crap. but Wahabi Sunni types no way, yeah ban the Burka and any full covering of people, someone tell me why many "western feminists" and PC people are saying that the Burka is empowering and an OK . tell it to the Afghan women who would be killed if they did not wear it.

    I would like to hear an aussie who has been in any capital's city in Europe and lived there for a while. I don't think that person would allow or talk about letting guy like Waleed Aly to stand and accept an awards which does represent purely for freedom of speech. Islam condemn anything foreign as speech , as women dressing (rugs on their head and 6 nighties on top of each other) sexual orientation, freedom of religion, food restriction, freedom to do sports recreation for women, driving for women, stoning women for adultery-------- and look at him, in a nice suit, bow ties .. all pure western fashion. His wife had to change to be a muslim leaving her Catholic upbringing behind her. What about their future children?.rug on daughter's head boys praying 5 time a day?. A Muslim is a Muslim , stays a Muslim.. and it's has been that way for 2050 years. His co-workers have no sense or feeling that that Muslim guy is fooling them as being one of them. Dumbos all the way. ( I used to live in Paris now Paristan).

    • @nerissarowan8119
      @nerissarowan8119 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like Christianity, Islam is not a single entity. The teachings you're talking about aren't teachings that tend follow people from the cultures they come from. They are the things Australian Muslims wish to leave behind.

      Agreed. I think people should be picked for something because they're the best person for the position regardless of their race, gender, religion or disability. If it turns out that person happens to be Aboriginal well I guess that's a bonus for people who are Aboriginal but otherwise it's a win for the business because they found someone capable of filling the role they needed filled.
