i live in Utah, this is huge. Salt Lake is definitely a DEM stronghold.
They may not being doing a good job for some of the most vulnerable though. Look up “Utah fails disabled adults”. Whoever is running things there needs to be voted out or pushed hard to do better.

I am a liberal citizen of Salt Lake City and I am so glad they are finally moving on this. When I saw the new congressional maps I was furious that they clearly divided SLC and the surrounding area into four pieces that were carefully counterbalanced by conservative rural areas. It was made all the worse knowing they went against what our voters approved in 2018.
Glad to hear Marc is focusing on Texas. There are 500,000 registered voters, that can't vote because of the ridiculous ID requirements, alone. Not to mention the closing of over 750 polling places. The Right wing authoritarian...I mean Republican party, has a stranglehold on that whole State.
Veterans can not vote with their VA identification. Although it has their name and photo on it, not having their address makes it invalid. This is awful for this country and our veterans. Another example of voter suppression and total disregard for our veterans by the GQP!

Not everyone who lives in Salt Lake City is Mormon. When I was a child we lived there for app. 3 1/2 years. My mom got SOOOO sick of the women from the Mormon ward down the street coming to our house with pamphlets and fund-raising stuff and just starting out with, "Are you a member of the church?" One day she'd had enough and said, "Yes!! The Lutheran Church!!". 😡😡😡. We were still harassed, but more cautiously after that. 😆😆😆 So proud of my mom! 💙🌊💙🌊💙😎🍹👵🐺🌵

We had the same problem, until my Uncle answered the door naked, we haven't seen them since, but couldn't figure out why, they stopped coming around, they were at the neighbors and wouldn't even look at us, until one got really angry and said, we don't come to perverted people's house's, we had been blacklisted from the very church, so when we told them what our Uncle did the News spread like wild fire, and guess what, it actual works. After he told us what he did, it makes us laugh every time we see them, not at our house, just in general.😇😅🤣

I'm in Texas and just saw something about needing a birth certificate to vote. I'm 72 and vote by mail. I'm afraid I'm going to do something wrong on my ballot, and my vote will be trashed. Voting should not be so difficult, but i know that's the GQP only way to possibly win.
I started doing mail-in ballots, too! There is a barcode at the bottom of the return envelope that tracks your ballots. You can track it to make sure they counted your vote. Let's turn Utah into a purple state! 😂
Also, if you do something wrong on your ballot, they are suppose to notify you to let you know. Then you have time to fill out a new ballot and get your vote counted.
A birth certificate to vote? Bit worried too. I heard a lot about having a witness to your vote, not duplicating signatures *they’re not identical to 4 yrs. ago, So yes, I’m worried about the ballot I’ve never been worried about.

I believe that SCOTUS ruled that they themselves (the fed gov) had no say in a state's gerrymandering. Meaning that each state's SC has the final say.

SCOTUS has ruled themselves out of a job. They derive their power from the trust people have in them. Since saying that the president is king, they lost all legitimacy and I don't think anyone should acknowledge or act on any future ruling from them until the corrupt conservative 6 are made to answer for their crimes. Thomas and Alito for not recusing in cases where there was absolute conflict of interest plus the corruption scandals. The Trump 3 should have to answer to Congress for lying under oath during their confirmation hearings in regards to respecting precedent (Roe with decades of it, US v. Trump with literal centuries of it). Roberts needs to explain himself for being complicit with this farce and being the one to pen the opinion, justifying US v. Trump by cherry picking points into a Frankenstein's monster of garbage that contradicts itself and is unconstitutional, which calls the Constitution unconstitutional.
Until the Supreme Court can prove that it can be nonpartisan, I refuse to see it as legitimate.

South Carolina's Supreme Court ruled UNAMOUSLY AGAINST a newly drawn map that moved 30,000 mostly minority voters OUT of a competitive district (Nancy Mace), and into an already solid minority district (Clybern) was based on race. The SCOTUS ruled that it was not race, but that it was done NOT for racial reasons, but instead for POLITICAL reasons.
SCOTUS overturned a unanimous State Supreme Court decision.

In the 1960's I remember our politics teacher told us about gerrymandering. It's nothing new. You just ignored it until it became a crisis.

This is interesting. Utah has been safely Republican for the last 14 elections; Lyndon B Johnson was the last Dem win in 1964 and that was close. I don't know how the state court is stacked (which is really important) but it's a good sign nevertheless.
I love this bit in the Democracy Docket article:

If the court took a year to decide this case, and voters' civil rights have been violated as a result, can those judges be sued for violating said civil rights?

Oklahoma state legislators passed a law in Nov 2020 that they can select new electors if they don't like who the majority of Oklahoma voters choose for our next president.
In other words, overturn voters.

Hopefully if enough districts are turned around in enough red states, that it will change them to blue. Thank you for taking on the tough cases! The illegalities are out there, now only if the delays weren't.
When a Court rules that a map was unconstitutional, the office held by the unconstitutionally elected official, should be IMMEDIATELY vacated upon the ruling, and Automatically set a new Special Election.
Honestly utah needs fair district maps. Salt lake is a blue strong.

I grew up in Salt Lake, and this is the issue that caused me to leave. I remember being so elated when we were able to pass that ballot initiative, excited to see an actual fair map drawn up, only to be crushed when they threw it out and ran with their partisan map anyway. I moved to Washington and feel like I actually have representation now.
