[1] technically water lily is not a grass
[2] grass, is WAY MORE facinating. grass contains glass (silicates), grass caused the extinction of horses in North America due to glass in grass wearing their teetch down too fast. Yet 5 million years later the same greed of we humans desiring another kind of grass (Sugar cane), slave trade and colonizers brought horses back to North America.

@@ylstorage7085 I won't ask for sources for that silicate bit of info because i can google it to see if you're just throwing some bs, but I'd like your take on what makes the sugar cane fit the definition of grass, cheers

@@paolovallejo5500 my dude... you can google and verify "Silicate in gass", but you can't google "Sugar cane is a type of grass"?
Also the real BS in my writting was the "horse extinction" part. "Mustication", i.e. the wearing down of teeth due to silicate in grass caused many extinctions, but not to the NA horses. NA horses had evolved to deal with that already.

@@bimfred That's what I'm saying. Before this there was no choice but to return to the plant, hour after hour and take note of the difference in growth. I was once told that plants can be viewed a bit like animals all trying to get at a bowl of food. They kick and punch and wrestle each other to get to the bowl (Which in the case of plants is sunlight), but it happens so slowly that you don't really notice it while walking through the forest. Vines climbing up tree trunks. Saplings trying to grow in the shade. Different leaf sizes and shapes meant for optimal capture of whatever rays make it to them. It's a slow and perpetual war with seasonal victories and losses.

Sometimes it’s hard to conceptualize that plants are living things. Instead of just inanimate objects that just sit there doing nothing. But when sped up it really shows these are living creatures. It’s almost like they live in a different time dimension from us.

Something people don't often consider is that your size, life expectancy, and metabolism play a huge role in "time". If you grow slowly, like a plant, that is your "movement". we see plenty of plants move to find sunlight during a matter of minutes and some can move instantly. Additionally an animal like a Greenland shark which can live for 500 years would probably feel like a year is a week because of their relative idea of time. an animal like an ant would consider ever minute to be a significant amount of time and they probably make hundreds of decisions in that timespan

cinematography is pretentious and distracts from the documentary itself.
idk why they didn't just make it about cinematography - clearly they cared very little about the plants, otherwise they wouldn't have used recycled themes [utricularia in bromeliad] (they've done that same sequence about 3 times in different documentaries).
they also mixed plants that don't occur naturally together anyway, from different continents even. the sound effects are stupid, and the information given was very mediocre - not to mention the terrible lack of continuity.
