- An eventful afternoon at the Naperville Amtrak/Metra station begins at 3:20pm when the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief 3, bound for Los Angeles, CA arrives for its first boarding only station stop. Upon departure it crosses over from MT1 to MT2 for its trip west.
Eight minutes later at 3:28pm, the westbound Amtrak California Zephyr 5, bound for Emeryville, CA arrives for its first boarding only station stop. However, Amtrak 5 comes in on the south platform, which is usually used for eastbound trains going to Chicago.
Both California Zephyr trains meet about one mile west of the station near the intermediate signal bridge and the River Road grade crossing.
At 3:34pm the eastbound 6 arrives for its final discharge only station stop. Notable in the locomotive lash-up is Siemens ALC-42 302. Maybe this is a sign that the ALC-42s will be coming to the western routes in due time.
Amtrak 6 crosses over from MT1 to MT2 at the East Naperville interlocking and a westbound Metra train is waiting so it can proceed towards the station.
