It's possible that the lines were recorded well before the animation went into production and they decided to go with The Simpsons instead of Married With Children. Getting voice casts and animation cels together were a lot more difficult and time consuming before the days of Skype and digital painting.
They probably didn’t have time to re-record the voices. So you have these mutant hybrid ghosts that look like the Simpsons, but talk like the Bundys. That’s honestly scarier. Or it would have been if they hadn’t cut the animation budget.

Seems solid to me. I’ve learned almost everything I know about the Ghostbusters franchise from good ol’ Phelous here (I never saw any of it in my younger years), but this seems like it would fit in pretty well with what The Real Ghostbusters was before those Q5 assclowns crapped all over it. Certainly leagues better than anything the aforementioned Q5 losers ever did. While “better than Q5” isn’t saying anything by itself, I do think you crafted a good little script excerpt here. Nicely done.
Wait a minute. Why did the ghostbusters wear their uniforms on vacation? Oh, because then we couldn’t have the great jokes of them wearing disguises even though they own regular clothes already, since we have seen them wear regular clothes in the movie and in the show.
This episode is a statement on how old The Simpsons is... when it's getting parodied by an 80s cartoon. Although it is interesting to think how it'd be like if it was Married with Children, or commit to the Simpsons part, though I think that'd require recording their lines again to match the references.

I wouldn't be surprised if many who saw this episode as little children believe that it was actually a feverish dream. By the way, I am very happy that we had the same voice actor for Peter Wenkman here in Germany for the whole series. (Dave Coulier sounds like he was about to fall asleep)

This episode really stands out to me even though I watched the show at a very young age. It is somewhat dream-like to see some of the clips, but it’s no more feverish or out-there than any other cartoon.
To Phelous or anyone who wants to weigh in: Don't know what Murray's character on Caddyshack is like, but I get the feeling also that since Peter didn't conduct himself like a stereotypical scientist that Q5 and Coulier assumed him to be simple minded.
Jeanine actually took a look at the premise of this episode, and told everyone to leave her out of this crap. Also, I'm guessing that the ghosts are maybe a combination of the Bundys and Simpsons, either way it shows how sad it is when a once great show becomes despite enough to stay relevant. I never saw this one when I was a kid... probably for the best. It’s pretty odd that they parodied The Simpsons. I don’t think the Ghostbusters universe is ripe for parody... they were truly running out of ideas. Great video as always
I noticed some ideas during this season were clearly recycled from older ones. For example, "Busters in Toyland" was recycled from "The Grundel", "Russian About" (although I did like it) was recycled from "The Collect Call of Cthulhu", "Afterlife in the Fast Lane" was recycled from "The Devil to Pay", and "The Magnificent Five" was recycled from "Ghost Fight at the O.K. Corral".

I don't know if anyone has brought this up before or not, but having Dave Coulier play Venkman as a dumbass COULD be seen as a form of poetic justice. After all, Bill Murray only asked the show's producers to get rid of Lorenzo Music since he didn't like his character having a similar voice to Garfield. This is honestly some of the worst animation I’ve seen from a show, I’d get if this was like the mid 80s Transformers or whatever, but my god, I’ve never seen animation cells lose FOCUS in the middle of a shot before. Like Jesus Christ, Clutch Cargo is rolling its eyes at this.

The fact that this episode started as a parody of a sitcom only to half-assedly turn into the parody of a completely different one in the middle says a lot of the writing style for the later seasons. Plus, both shows being parodied were aimed at an adult audience. It's funny to think the writers of Real Ghostbusters thought there would still be adults watching their show in the 6th season, unless they were secret geniuses predicting internet review culture.
Honestly, knowing people like Strazynski (even though he was long gone by this point), they'd know people would rewatch stuff and complain. Not online, obviously, but it wouldn't surprise me if he thought that.

By the late 1980's, DiC cartoons in general were moving their money from Japanese animation studios to South Korean studios; guess "DuckTales" was too much for them. Even Shuki Levy was no longer scoring the music for their shows, and that's too bad, because I like his work as composer on "The Real Ghostbusters" from 1986 to 1989.
I was wondering why the ghost family didn't have a Maggie counterpart until you explained that they probably started off as a Married with Children parody and now I get it. I was going assume that the creators of the show were just that lazy.

Those aren't really "ghosts", Samhain and Gozer are pre-Christian gods, and the Boogeyman is more like a demon. As for Slimer, I'm sure there's some obscure canon thing somewhere exploring his life before death.

The Simpson's prime was roughly between seasons 4 through 10. NOT at season 2.

And what about all of those former customers of Gary’s shoe store who have gone to the great beyond thanks to complications from morbid obesity? Imagine them clogging up the proton packs and the storage units! That would have been hilarious!
When you’re processing this, remember that this networks gave Roseanne her own Saturday morning cartoon before that cow movie took the blame for the death of Disney animation as Walt knew it.

This episode really stands out to me even though I watched the show at a very young age. It is somewhat dream-like to see some of the clips, but it’s no more feverish or out-there than any other cartoon.

To Phelous or anyone who wants to weigh in: Don't know what Murray's character on Caddyshack is like, but I get the feeling also that since Peter didn't conduct himself like a stereotypical scientist that Q5 and Coulier assumed him to be simple minded.
More like Coulier played him that way the same reason all of Gary Coleman’s characters were short and Black.
Jeanine actually took a look at the premise of this episode, and told everyone to leave her out of this crap. Also, I'm guessing that the ghosts are maybe a combination of the Bundys and Simpsons, either way it shows how sad it is when a once great show becomes despite enough to stay relevant. Which can also be applied to the Simpsons.
That’s what this is all the more ironic. Now, *The Shitsons* takes the same weak pot shots at everything that came after them and misses every single time.

I never saw this one when I was a kid... probably for the best. It’s pretty odd that they parodied The Simpsons. I don’t think the Ghostbusters universe is ripe for parody... they were truly running out of ideas. Great video as always
I noticed some ideas during this season were clearly recycled from older ones. For example, "Busters in Toyland" was recycled from "The Grundel", "Russian About" (although I did like it) was recycled from "The Collect Call of Cthulhu", "Afterlife in the Fast Lane" was recycled from "The Devil to Pay", and "The Magnificent Five" was recycled from "Ghost Fight at the O.K. Corral".
Yeah, it's really not the same show at all at this point with the lower story and animation quality.

I don't know if anyone has brought this up before or not, but having Dave Coulier play Venkman as a dumbass COULD be seen as a form of poetic justice. After all, Bill Murray only asked the show's producers to get rid of Lorenzo Music since he didn't like his character having a similar voice to Garfield. He didn't care about whether the guy was doing a decent job or not either! Then again Bill Murray never seemed to understand WHY people liked Ghostbusters to begin with.

This is honestly some of the worst animation I’ve seen from a show, I’d get if this was like the mid 80s Transformers or whatever, but my god, I’ve never seen animation cells lose FOCUS in the middle of a shot before.

you've trained me well; i groaned the second i heard coulier's voice.
The fact that this episode started as a parody of a sitcom only to half-assedly turn into the parody of a completely different one in the middle says a lot of the writing style for the later seasons.
Plus, both shows being parodied were aimed at an adult audience. It's funny to think the writers of Real Ghostbusters thought there would still be adults watching their show in the 6th season, unless they were secret geniuses predicting internet review culture.
Honestly, knowing people like Strazynski (even though he was long gone by this point), they'd know people would rewatch stuff and complain. Not online, obviously, but it wouldn't surprise me if he thought that.

It wasn't just "The Real Ghostbusters". By the late 1980's, DiC cartoons in general were moving their money from Japanese animation studios to South Korean studios; guess "DuckTales" was too much for them. Even Shuki Levy was no longer scoring the music for their shows, and that's too bad, because I like his work as composer on "The Real Ghostbusters" from 1986 to 1989.
I was wondering why the ghost family didn't have a Maggie counterpart until you explained that they probably started off as a Married with Children parody and now I get it. I was going assume that the creators of the show were just that lazy.

Those were other paranormal entities and Slimer was supposed to be a ghost of someone. There was even almost an episode where we were going to see him alive again.
Those aren't really "ghosts", Samhain and Gozer are pre-Christian gods, and the Boogeyman is more like a demon. As for Slimer, I'm sure there's some obscure canon thing somewhere exploring his life before death.
