With my used 03 Tahoe 5.3L, I checked and ran it on a stand. As my son’s engine, I knew its condition. But while installing new gaskets and captured rocker needle bearings, I was finding valve stem tip ware on driver side. This is now filtered air in. Crankcase fumes a pulled out the valley pan, drilled, threaded and 3/4” copper pipe filled with dollar store stainless steel W/O soap. Drilled with tiny holes on bottom, SS filter media held with cotter pins crossed drill. So pulling fresh air in, sucking crankcase fumes from center as filtered air enters both Valve Covers back to center. I use the OEM suction hole in intake to create flow!
    Thanks kindly for sharing!

Great attitude on the environment coming from a petrol head! Quite well thought through arrangement too. Nice one!

I agree fully, I’m working on my son’s turbocharged Fiesta, but I drive a roots style 4th Gen TRD supercharger. The supercharger has all its “charge piping” internally, inside the intake manifold under the supercharger, so keeping oil vapor from collecting on the backside of the valves is a little more challenging without using some sort of PCV valve that stops boost from getting into the crankcase.

Thoroughly enjoyed that rare rant! Just don't let your pizza fall out of your mouth into your crankcase! I need to replace the transmission cooler lines and fuel lines on my truck. I've seen kits with AN fittings for those purposes and they are considerably less expensive than buying the pre-bent factory style lines, that are apparently nearly impossible to install (at least for the fuel lines). I might give them a try. Never worked with them before but it doesn't look difficult.

I have the larger version of this catch can. I have it in between the vacuum port and the pcv valve. Low boost it filled the catch can quickly. I got a set of valve covers with better baffling and it fixed it. Oil in the intake does drop the octane of the intake charge. Had I not put a catch can I never would have known the first valve covers were dumping oil into the intake.

Great job, the AN fittings get easier the larger you go! Keep us posted, as to weather this system works as designed, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 revisions to get it just right! 😊 Head gasket still good?

Head gasket still good. LS9 MLS gaskets, ARP studs, only 9psi.

I couldn't get that style of catch can to work, oil would still blow through. Try a Watson Racing style can.

mmmmmm...oil vapour. yum! really...a bit of oil vapour will help with output. think controlled burn rates in f1 that caused so much bullshit amongst the teams a couple of years back. pcv and catch can. a wonderful combo to keep things orderly and cleaner.

It's your truck, you do it your way and that's the way you like it, the naysayers don't have to like it or even watch what you do, most of us enjoy watching how and what you do,don't stop the way you do stuff and show how you do it! 🏁🧰🛠,Thanks!
