Longer than that. I've been flying Star, my Harris Hawk, for 9 years now. (Not sure if she is my hawk, or if I'm her human)! This has inspired me to try harder. Wasn't easy, but we've worked it out. Thank you.
Got a black greyhound and always wondered how would it interact with a harris. I guess they could be friends too! Never saw a hareis hawk flying that much, seems another kind of bird.
this is a really great watching the hawk wait on, well done to the person that took the time. I miss my hawk but at my age i feel to old to start again, happy days to you all.
Unbelievable!! i dont know much about hawks or birds of prey for that matter im a parrot owner who is considering getting a harris. these are beautiful creatures and im sure that took alot of training to let it go so far and come back in style!
They quickly learn to wait there turn if your out flying your hawk with others, give them a chance. Harris Hawks are pretty smart as I'm sure you know. Just look how they hunt in the wild, very often team work and your part of your hawk's team. :-)
hi this is like the best video on youtube. i have 4 harris hawks and they are all good hunters but i was just wondering how u trained yours like that? thanks.
just to address JMGator, I have always used hoods with my Harris, I fly with up to 4 together sometimes, it just controls the situation for me. Not really a necessity with one, I agree, but it has worked. Iguess it helps with my system of no jesses in the field, I have found that any jess holding stops the birds from using the glove for reflushes. But I also started using a t perch for the group.
Great video, you certainly have a very well trained hawk, do you ever hunt with him/her I am guessing her by the size? Lovely area you have to fly in too.. Just as a video excellent. The stoop at the end was perfectly caught as well.. Thanks for sharing it with us all and keep them coming.
Excellent stuff, you really don't see this often with a Broadwing. Are you on the International Falconry Forum (IFF?) I'm sure we'd all love to hear how you trained the bird to wait-on. Brings me on to my question, how did you train it to? Just a method that you don't see many captive Broadwings adopt which I may find useful in the future. Happy Hawking Bradley
great video for waiting on,i have never trained specifically for it, but it seems eventually they will, as mentioned when they get strong, and have a nice updraft. Godd job, I like to see a working bird, Been some discussion as towards petkeepers, and how it just makes the sport look bad.
Great video. I trained one of my Harris's to wait on, took me ages getting him fit enough so he would want to do it. Why have you got your hawk hooded? Never hooded any of my hawks and they quickly become bomb proof. Feed em mean and keep em keen. Happy hunting :-)
one other hood point, I dont like long periods in a hood. I have seen say a passage Gyr hooded all except flying and 1/2 hour for weather. I see the point in that constant bating, and stress lead up to lower ammune system, especially for a Gyr, as they are very susceptible to everything. But it is just an excuse to avoid proper manning.
I am picking up a 2016 male H,H from the breeding chamber (UK) at the end of August and would like to train it like this I am not a member of the off tried many times and not been accepted regards Mik.
This hawk was hood trained for the 5minuite walk up the road to a suitable vantage spot. Hooding any bird for long periods is both unfair & unnecessary. It should only be used to control a bird prior to flying during preperations or transport ;-)
Hi, was wondering if anyone was able to give me advice on how to train a hawk to do this (soar and wait on) as iim looking to train mine to do this. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
great the bird looked fantastic , just getting into the sport myself so still have a lot to learn yet , so think it will be aprox a years time if im lucky to get my first bird, how long did you take, till you had your first bird ? thanks for sharing the vid nice one
After over a decade I’ve come back to this. This got me into falconry! Love it still
Really happy to see people still enjoying this Video after so long!
I hope with some spare time we'll make some more vids for next season.

They quickly learn to wait there turn if your out flying your hawk with others, give them a chance. Harris Hawks are pretty smart as I'm sure you know. Just look how they hunt in the wild, very often team work and your part of your hawk's team.

Amazing flight!
Thank you! 5*
great fit flying..
Great! Sorry what is OC?
Way to go, beautiful flight! That's a fine hawk. Are you still flying him?
@JMGater
Its hooded for exactly the same reason as game hawks!
They don't sit still when you teach them to do something!
Great video.
