  • Dabo Swinney has won multiple ACC and national titles at Clemson while also seeing the sport of College Football shift under his feet. Recently the Tiger head man sat down with 247Sports' Carl Reed for a wide-ranging interview on the current and future state of the sport PLUS the latest on the Clemson program heading into spring practice.

      Dabo is a great guy. He is a lot like Saban. He leads by example and is not fearful of what people think of him when he makes a stand. Leaders do that.

    Haters can bash Dabo all they want, but they can't deny he works hard for his players and loves them like sons. If every coach and administrator cared as much about these kids as he does, college football would not be turning into mini-NFL like it is.

    Coach touching on your comment on equipping for life, for me I try to prepare all the time, I would never leave my house without a spare tire in my truck, meaning the greatest football recruit ever 100% sure he's going to the NFL, needs that "spare tire" such as an education to fall back on just in case and most likely there will be a just in case, to build a great house first you have to build a greater foundation...Go Tigers All-In, great interview of which I never expected it to be anything less...

    I always like to hate on Dabo but he seemed to have a pretty good handle on what probably should happen with the transfer portal. I think they made a mistake dropping the transfer rules, Covid was the excuse for everything.

    Dabo does not want players to be able to transfer without sitting out a year. Who does that benefit, the coach only.

    I like the August SD. It would stop these kids from committing/decommiting nonsense and lock them in. Take the time to visit campuses and make a decision then shut it down.

    Yeah Dabo ain’t my favourite either but he absolutely nailed this one . Between the transfer portal , NIL, conference changes and the playoff , something has to change .

    This interview shows why Clemson has rarely had a top 5 recruiting class and is still competing at the highest level. He gets the more out of the players through development

      He has offered 3 in the portal and secured 1. So saying he won’t use it is not true. It just has to be the right culture fit.

    CFB fans, start being comfortable with being uncomfortable. Transfer portal and NIL aren't going anywhere. Tampering isn't new, it's front and center now. Colleges/ Universities have to appeal to players by demonstrating how their program will develop players' educational, NFL and financial goals.

    Good man should be on ncaa committee to fix college football. Clemson football is no longer competitive recruiting big boy talent at the highest level. Dabo needs to focus on our football team needs. Bring fresh coaching talent from the outside who are familar with the current college landscape who are chasmatic to build our talent back and stop the Clemson talent drain through the transfer portal ok. Go tiger and please start now to out work Kirby in recruiting instead of being his victim or that of UNC and Notre Dame or Miami not to speak of SEC ok! Go tigers !

    I would have liked this interview better if he was not selling Clemson so much. I wish he would have talked more in general about the changes in CFB.

    Dabo's heart is in the right place, but this is what the players want. Clemson is going to fall behind if he doesn't get with the times.

      I think Dabo's point is that kids shouldn't always get what they want, and that's why adults need to make rules, because kids only see the candy in front of their face and not the cavities it's going to give them later.

      @@lilcourtny08Dabo never said that. He is for the NIL. He is for your own activities for Name Image Likeness. As much as those "kids" made a name for Clemson BEFORE an NIL ever cane about...one million don't want to see Clemson taken down by a now 10th grade brat that in two years has absolutely no consequential idea or doesn't care.
      Dabo got it right or go play elsewhere. Clemson isn't going down the tubes. Should that ever happen, as bad as college football is right now, a lot of top tier more than Clemson will go as well.
      Coaches get paid for a reason.
      Be one.

      People really don’t get this dude. His players educated him on what the statement BLM really means. That’s why he agreed to the players changing their nameplates and helmets to social justice messages after that, and supported/spoke at the campus BLM rally. People evolve with education and knowledge.

      @@deetch7861 He’s directly answering a question about what changes he’d like to see in college football and explaining his reasoning. He didn’t mention any other programs by name, he just pointed to some recruiting practices that do go on that he thinks those changes would eliminate or at least cut down. If your supervisor at your job came in and asked you what changes you’d like to see in the workplace, and you answered, is that crying? That’s the problem with a lot of people. Watch the full interview. You’d find you agree with him a lot more than you don’t.

      @@deetch7861 Hmm. Interesting. Because other people in this comment section didn’t seem to get that impression. So I don’t think it’s the whole world. I think some people like you have a preconceived caricature of what you think Dabo Swinney sounds and behaves like and look for it in anything he says. You had nothing to say about his comments later in the interview like the ones about the importance of mental health for the players and the pressures they deal with for example. You had nothing to say about what he’s done at Clemson to prepare his players for life after football. But then again, you didn’t actually watch the interview.
