I've found this video yesterday and decided to bring my "yamaha" proteus out of the barn. Dusted it off, bounght shinies to make him feel better and went for a ride. Smooth operator... Love it to bits. Drone boats are my cup of tea so it is a pleasure to fly that thing. Thanks Captain! Fly safe o/
Great video! I know they're expensive, but really, try out Geckos! They kick out more dps, go faster and take more of a beating than faction heavy drones. Also, around 14:30 you mention applying 1,000 dps. If you're adding the drone DPS at the bottom to the DPS listed at the top, don't. Mouse over the DPS at the top and you'll see the drone dps is included in that 558, so your drones are doing most of the damage. I don't even run guns on mine... However, maybe I misunderstood. Either way, good stuff, keep it going!
Glad to see this ship get a decent show case. If you even suggested a proteus for anything outside of tackle pvp youd be called every name under bobs eyesight. Love the proteus, love wormholes, and love this video. Thank you for showing a working fit!
Another thing about fitting T3 cruisers, you can fit 100mn AB instead 10mn and have great speed without impact on your capacitor amount and it cant be shut down with scram like MWD would.
And if you fit for it you can make an absolute monster of a tackle cruiser that can tank 1600dps applied that can point to 84 km and go 6900m/s with 100mn ab . Not cheap though it will be about 50% as effective with a cheaper fit and no backpack links.
Lots and lots of people don't actually understand anything in EVE. They just accept what others said and parrot it without understanding the basis of it. Just means there's more isk opportunities for those that do.
Haha, I feel less crazy after hearing someone else thinks the Spike/Javelin thing is counter-intuitive "Spike" makes me think of a crossbow bolt, something sharp and stout that hits very hard but doesn't travel very far.
It makes sense to me when you think of the projectile size & mass fired from a launcher. A Spike is a teeny little arrowhead. Fire that from a launcher, it's going to go VERY far, but not do as much damage. A Javelin, on the other hand, is a huge & long piece of metal. Fire that big boy from the same launcher, & it won't go near as far, but Ooo Buddy! It's going to do much more damage when it hits.
using T1 ammo can help with your transition issues between spike and javlin... having T1 ammo can also allow you to engage a lot further out than the T2 allows.
@@captainbenzie take a good look at the navy faction ammo as well. Depending on your skill and target lock mods you can get withering DPS at over 100K. I've noticed that a lot of players don't explore rail gun ammo and what the various flavors can do for them. They pick an engagement distance and rule of thumb the ammo type. You can design your engagements to take advantage of ammo type. Switching as needed. It doesn't take very long for it to become second nature. I learned to do it with the Myrmidon and Talos hulls. It can be a real game changer if you put a little time into the practice.
I'm just returning to Eve after a few years due to life. When I left Eve, there was one additional subsystem and the covert config also nullified warp bubbles. I appreciate this fit as I have a pure Gallente toon that will be flying it. Damn, I miss EFT - but I did make some changes to your fit for more DPS. I put 250mm Rails which results in a stable cap with 1.1% less than your fit - comes in at 62.2% stable. I think the extra DPS is worth that 1.1% given how well your fit runs these C3's. I also increased DPS by doing what others have mentioned - 2x Gecko, 1xAugmented Ogre (flies just a little slower than the Geckos). Total DPS is 821.1. Although I made some tweaks, I really, really appreciated this video and your fit as a starting point. Like many, I've only ever setup one Proteus and it was a pvp tackle. So, thank you!
The fit isn't meant as "the ultimate", it's just a starting point so I'm glad you've tweaked it to your own needs! The Interdiction Nullification still exists, but it's a Propulsion Subsystem now.
The only recommendation I would make would be to switch out the Target Painter for an Omnidirectional Tracking Link. You can either switch out for a compact straight up; or you can switch out your AB for a compact and then get the T2 Tracking Link. The link with a tracking speed script is really going to improve how well your drones hit their target. And with the drones being the primary damage dealer, I think this would be an overall improvement on damage. I do have another fit that's cheaper and performs similar well, but its not that much of a difference. But I do recommend the Tracking Link over the painter. YMMV
Thank you very much . 2 Highlights for me : 1/ your detailed explanation of your fit and 2/ explanation of your strategy in the different waves ( what first second third )
Always assume there are at least 2 hunters on grid with you just waiting to strike. I saw one video that was funny because as the hunter went to uncloak another bomber uncloaked and opened fire. So first bomber killed the target, the second bomber killed the first, the the first bombers friends warped in on grid and killed the second bomber. These things happen so you HAVE to assume the people are always there.
With the exception of a couple of ships like the Algos, Tristan, Incursus, Nemesis and absolutely the Hecate. But absolutely agree. They definitely have the ugliest ships BY FAR. after the drone buff the proteus is great! and omg the "akira bike"/"gundam" vibe you get from the drone boat configuration with the exoplanets skin is amazing... flew that ship 4 months in LS farming tags after the buff and couldn't stop flying it!
Wow, I actually love the look of this ship. Almost reminds me of something Moebius would have drawn for Heavy Metal magazine. Almost has a semi-organic feel to it.
In the lore, the T3 cruisers are based off sleeper tech that the empires got their hands on. Of the 4 t3 cruisers in existence I definitely find the Proteus looks the closest to its sleeper ship relatives. It's probably one of my favorite designs in the game, though I'm a sucker for the bio-engineer look of all the gallente ships.
Love this fit. Note with interest that should you want, you can use 250mm rails but your cap is much less. Maybe revisit this fully optimized to support the drones? Some remote reps perhaps, and more drone modules. Going to give that a try myself. It's an awesome ship and so ugly it's beautiful!
@@captainbenzie There's not a lot of room in the tank for low slot drone modules. The mid slot for the painter could be a drone mod, but that just helps the tracking and range of the drones. I am not a railgun specialist, and I'm wondering if your application would be better if you were keeping range to the target instead of orbiting the MTU.
Oh yeah, absolutely, but then so would their application because I'd be moving in a straight line away ergo zero traversal and direct hits from incoming fire

Finally someone else is befuddled by using javelin for short range ammo 😅 Yes the drone bay and bandwidth is absolutely massive. Want to throw a gecko in there feel free.
Geckos are just so expensive, more than the cost of the rest of the fit!
"People say this is bad. I've found it quite good. Am I doing something wrong?" lol
😅

Haha thank you! Glad I'm not alone!
my fav T3
Apparently the least popular and supposedly the worst. Yet here we are.
The Turdius.
Lmao 😂
Drone dps is included in total dps… you’re only doing 20dps per gun… with 5 guns…
Yes, I made this video before I realised that. I have since corrected it in future videos 😊
C'mon now, the Proteus is very 'Robo Tech' looking. LOL!
How dare you.
Honestly, it looks like a lumpy turd, but it's worse with the Friction Extension Processor installed...
@@captainbenzie LOL!!!
Woudp be nice to control 10 drones
Once upon a time
The ship would be too good. Imagine a battleship doing 1500 dps out to 100km with good application even to frigates.
I have more damage resistance and more reps than your fit and i barely survived a C3 combat site...
Pilot skills and knowledge of the sites and enemies are important. Keeping angular velocity, target priority and positioning for spawn points etc.
Offence window includes drone DPS... That thing is not hitting 1000 DPS.
I have long since learned this
Looks aren't everything. If they were, I wouldn't be married -Benzie
Oof
excuse me ? this is the sexiest looking ship in eve online perdiod.
To each their own 😉
IT LOOKS LIKE A MOTORBIKE TO ME !!
Haha yeah, it kinda does!
Brave brave man...don't let your spouse see this video
Lmao 😂
But u must have all skills on V for this then its will be work :-) (lerantime 2years)
Not ALL skills. Gallente Subsystems should each be 5, Gallente Cruiser V, and any of the skills for Tech 2 modules.
Yeah, this isn't a Day One ship but can definitely get into it faster than 2 years.
I hope your wife doesn't watch these Videos. You gonna get in trouble for the joke :D
😂
I have 3
Nice! It's supposedly the least popular T3C but seems loads use it!!
@@captainbenzie they are really good drone boats
Almost all ships in eve online are hideous
To each their own. Some of the ships in EVE are my favourites in all of scifi
damage math ain't mathin 13:40
