When I first watched this film I presumed it was just another film hyped up you know! So I cracked open a beer and thought I would be bored after 10 minutes or so...well after that opening scene (and a few more beers) I was totally hooked by EVERY scene.. needless to say I've seen this film 8 times now and never get bored of it! In fact I LOVE it!
its a movie with big hype that lives up to the hype; plain and simple...its over rated, SURE! but that doesnt mean it isnt completely the best movie of generations
"She said she would do it again." There it is, the entire thesis of the movie. Despite the pain you feel, you shouldn't judge your relationships based on how they end. Judge them based on how they helped you grow. Thinking about my past relationships like that I would do it again.
Well, hers really helped her, didnt it? A simp willing to bankroll HER dream, paying her bills so she can devote all time to HER dream. But how did she help his dream? In fact, the closer her dream grew, the more disgusted she became that he was willing to "sell out" his Art for that very money that facilitated her own goals. Typical bitch.
Damien: (shrugs) "Oh, hey Emma, can you give us the entire point of the movie in song without moving anything but your face?" Emma: "Hold my beer... I mean, my Oscar."
As an artist, this film hit me in the heart like an arrow. I know how hard it is for people like us to make it out there. We try so hard just to be shut down. Being told we’re not good enough. We are simply fools chasing a hopeless dream. But it’s the passion that keeps us going. We fail and fail, but we will never give up our dreams.
Y'know this movie was such a masterpiece in so many ways it's not even a joke. The way the theme and story shifts from an optimistic hopeful musical, to a depressing realistic drama with no music, only for the only song left in the film to be a ballad reflecting on the cold hard reality of having big dreams with no realistic way to fully achieve them and showing the struggle of a desperate artist is absolutely heart-breaking. The fact that we started at "It's Another Day of Sun!" and ended at "Here's to the Fools who Dream!" is like man...it really is tragic how the world can really beat someone down.
To be honest, anybody could've sang this better but Emma sang this full of emotions. She was not only singing, she had that melancholic look on her face and that is why she truly deserved that oscar.
Honestly I found the unpolishedness of the main actors when it came to things like singing and dancing that made it all that much more enjoyable. There were others that could have sung this song better than Emma but I don't know if they could have done a better job of conveying that emotion she's portraying. This is so much more raw than a professional singer could have done and that makes it all that more "real" to me.
"Anybody" could have sung this better?!?! You kidding? Her vocal performance, vibrato, and technique are incredible. Yes, there are more who could sing this, but the only person who could pull this off would be Lady GaGa. I can't think of any other artist..
Any dreamer out there trying to achieve their dreams, falling, getting back up, trying and trying again, will be deeply felt in this scene. I broke down, cried and cried.....
I remember seeing this in the movie theater... i was with my Mom, Sister and Aunt. I cried through this song. When we got out of the movie they just looked with my eyes red and laughed at me. They didn't get it!! They didn't feel it. It made me understand why we were so different, even though we are blood family... i am a creator, a lover of others, a dreamer, a mess maker. It made it easier to walk away from that "family" and find a true family that loved me for me... This song... beautiful!!
Wow. I totally relate to this. I never felt like I belonged in my own family. At 51, I am finally free. Eyes open for my future partner to sing and dance through the rest of my life.

Niki Wonoto This is true. Oh so true. I'm a struggling artist...I moved away to another city this summer to pursue my passion. I worked a small contract which was great, then got terribly sick. Had to come back home and recover and then 4 months later I still broke even after sending out dozens and dozens of applications. I'm sitting here sulking and thinking back to when I quit my day job. I wish I hadn't. Dreams don't always come true. I gave it my best shot and nothing happened.
This scene is missing the best part - when she gets called into the room for the audition, and the casting people introduce themselves and tell her about the movie - like she pretty much has the part. Mia's expression changes, as if to say, "Holy shit, I think this is it..." It's brilliant - and a huge turning point in the movie.
The woman had recently seen her in her little play she thought was a flop and loved it, that was the turning point for her, and let's not forget that Sebastian was the one who convinced her to go to the audition, love this movie.

"A bit of madness is key, To give us new colours to see. Who knows where it will lead us? And that's why they need us!" I remember this moment the most. As I sat in the theatre, I don't think I've ever felt more connected with my fellow musicians, writers, and artists. To be able to create is a wonderful privilege :')
As a teen i'm basically a box full of unfulfilled dreams and as an artist struggling with becoming the man he wants this song just broke my heart into pieces, it perfectly captures the feeling of incredible love and passion that an artist has for his creation, the flame, the feeling of being a foolish dreamer, that's was moves me to stay awake every night and gives me chills every single time i see the same dedication and love pouring out of someone else's art, this scene is that, pure love to the amazing journey of art and that's why i have goosebumps with everytime mia dolan says cheers to the fools who dream, because we may seem foolish but we will give them new colors to see and that's the only thing that matters. Thank you Damien Chazelle for this and thank you poets, writers, musicians and actors for jumping barefoot to the river with me.
A bit of madness is key to give us new colors to see, who knows where it would lead us...AND THAT'S WHY THEY NEED US!! god that perfectly describes what beeing an artist is, do everything to capture a feeling, even dumb silly and hurtfull things, not everyone could sacrifice themselves that way, that's why they need us(artists).
Once I want to become an actor, just like Emma in the movie, I fight for it, I get criticize, no one support me, even the clostiest one of my life dont believe in me. I look like a fool, a useless man at that time. Thats why my tears drop every time I watch it, That hard and that pain can not be forget, even years later, I still can feel it in the night. So for those people who have dream and keep fighting, I give them the best respect.
Elena S. M. Canonico i know but i gets so hard. i think i started late. but i want it so much. i’m trying to not give up and keep going because i think i love it
This scene wrecked me at the theater. I teared up so badly cause it really got me. Emma owned this scene and not only her singing is beautiful and raw but her emotions and her facial expressions make you cry.. Best moment of the movie hands down👋😭👌
This La La Land film holds a special place in my heart. In 2016, I was having such a turbulent time. I had completely lost interest in watching brand new films, something I have loved since I was a child. And inspite of all the darkness I was going through at the time... La La Land was something that made me stick my head out of the flood like an ostrich. Out of all that was happening... La La Land was the only thing that survived such times. As if it was water-proof.

I remember being in the theatre in complete amazement and tears of joy from watching this. You can tell she put her entire soul into the performance. It was so powerful and inspiring. I remember how it gave me such a similar vibe to Anne Hatheway's I dreamed a dream performance from Les Miserables, that won her an Oscar a few years back so I knew Emma Stone had already won once I saw this. Just an absolutely beautiful performance. Nothing matched it that year, a well deserved Oscar for her.
Concerning her brilliant performance in other Movies this one is definitely her best role played with a lot of soul... She really lives what she was doing and that's amazing...! Hears to the one's who act! And in particular to Emma...There's no doubt she deserved that Oscar...
I watched the movie in theater with my dad.... I didn't know it was gonna be this good, so didn't bring any tissues. I end up crying silently, wiping tears with my sleeve. Till this day it's still one of my fav movie of all time.
Watched this film recovering in hospital from a breakdown. Loved it and still do. This song is so sad yet uplifting. This film should have won the Oscar!!
As an artist this hits so hard. I realize how lucky I am every day to get to live my dream, I don't know how I would be able to live otherwise. I remember the time when I was facing rejection after rejection, and the people around me didn't understand why I was taking it so hard. It was probably one of the darkest points for me. I just wish the world was kinder to artists, they do need us.
People have disliked this?? The fuck? Emma Stone earned her Oscar in this scene alone. Absolutely stunning acting and scene all around. Please let this movie usher in more original musicals in Hollywood, for the love of God. The world could really use more of them right now.
When this movie came out, it was a turning point in my life, because some people I was close to, they hated it. I listened to the way they talked about it, and I realized that on a fundamental level, we would never understand each other, and I had to reorient a lot of my life around the implications of those realizations. It sounds heavy handed and overkill, but sometimes that’s what art does.
The simple fact that this entire scene involves no movement at all and is THIS powerful goes to show how simply stunning both Emma's voice and emotion and the score is throughout this entire song. This is an amazing swan song that the entire movie builds to and wants us to take away, and succeeded on that front beautifully. :)
This movie, this fucking movie . it should deem punishment for how much suffering it puts its viewers at the end . It ripped my heart to shreds . Ahhh... such a masterpiece . Damn you Damien Shazelle . Damn you and bless you at the same time.
This is such a good scene. How it's able to hold my attention even without cutting or overlaying other scenes or visuals. Just Emma singing in the void. The piano playing is so beautiful here too. Adds a lot of interesting harmonies and melodies to follow
Always makes me tear up: "she lived in her liquor, and died with a flicker; i'll always remember the flame." that hits me hard, so tragic that so many amazing people eventually drown themselves in substances to escape from an existence that becomes too dull and painful to bear; usually once youth leaves them behind, unfortunately being amazing and burning bright is always temporary. This whole movie makes me weep, he should have just gone to paris with her😭 why don't people choose love above all else.
I have been pondering the scenes that sum up the movie at the end. I agree with many here, that Emma‘s story is very moving and very touching and the fact she did it in one take is phenomenal too. But I think the ballet scene exemplifies that if he had followed her to Paris he would never have realized his dream; instead he would’ve had love yes, but he would have been incorporated into her dream. At least that was my observation when I watched it tonight. I’ve watched it twice in the last week and it’s definitely a moving set of final scenes. What I conclude is that they both encouraged each other, in fact fueled each other to accomplish their dreams and without each other they would not have succeeded. They succeeded being apart not together. Not quite a ‘Hollywood’ ending.
I watched this film in the most romantic way and it was when I was traveling to Italy and I was on board of the plane and we had the film, so I watched it and as soon as the film ended the lights died down in the plane as I was crying and pilot announced that we were above Italy. It was amazing
Emma was brilliant in that movie. How can you not fall in love with her after that performance. We felt the emotions she would feel if in that situation. Beautiful singing, dancing, and acting. And what chemistry she has will Ryan Gosling. They poured all their energy into this movie. One of the top performances of all time in my book. I was never a lover of musicals, but this one was totally different. I particularly loved the piano playing - always a favorite of mine.
I remember crying so hard when I first saw that scene. As an aspiring artist, the struggle is real and sometimes following a dream is just too difficult.
This scene has me in tears every time. When I watch this I dream so big, and am reminded of why I dream of telling stories. This is my favorite film ever.
Anyone can sing lol not everyone can sing well. Her dining in the shower wasn't very good. I would say she improved. She had voice lessons. She worked hard. People need to stop acting like she rolled out of bed this way. She worked really hard
This is probably the most meaningful and powerful scene from the whole movie, but the whole movie is a masterpiece... It's full of colors, emotions, hidden symbolisms, and a killer OST. More than deserved Oscars.
used this for my audition, one of the best auditions I've done periodt. got a great role because this song truly shows how high one can go and how they can belt notes. absolutely amazing.
This movie speaks for all the artists out there. Just like Mia’s aunt, the curse that is creativity, haunts us, it eats us from the inside out, yet it’s the very spark of life that we cling to. We’re all just foolish dreamers, drenched in our own mess. I wept at this scene because of how much it reflected me. This song is timeless and will be a source of comfort for artists many generations from now.
Every time I try to give up my dream of a musical, this movie comes up. And it makes me feel like I might be able to do it even though I know I can't. sometimes I feel that I just want to delete this movie altogether.. that way I might be able to forget about my dream
This scene hit me so hard cause it occurred to me. I'm one of the Fools who dares to dream, and so is my cousin, and everyone. It felt as if she was exclusively singing to me. I don't know. it was so emotional for me, like, she recognized my talents for what it was, and that she recognized that I was my own person, with dreams, and wishes, and that those were precious to me, and that made me a wonderful person. This scene, was probably one of the best parts of the film. After all, we are all Fools who dream at some point.
Sadly, the success of her audition is also the moment that begins their eventual break up. Ironic that Seb contributed to that bitter-sweet process. What a great movie. Please keep on working towards your dreams everyone.

Yeah good luck finding it online, fucking miracle
its a movie with big hype that lives up to the hype; plain and simple...its over rated, SURE! but that doesnt mean it isnt completely the best movie of generations
"She said she would do it again."
There it is, the entire thesis of the movie. Despite the pain you feel, you shouldn't judge your relationships based on how they end. Judge them based on how they helped you grow. Thinking about my past relationships like that I would do it again.
True. Very true.
Whoa. Well said. I didn't understand the real meaning of that sentence.
the same goes for careers and dreams
Well, hers really helped her, didnt it?

Such a raw and beautiful scene from Emma Stone.
She didn't steal that Oscar, that's for sure.
Most deserving, indeed.
With camera work and lighting like this, there's nowhere for the actor to hide. They either have "it", or they don't. Emma has it in spades!

Terrific performance. If only her singing were a little bit stronger!

Lyrics:
My aunt used to live in Paris
I remember, she used to come home and tell us these stories about being abroad
And I remember she told us that she jumped into the river once, barefoot
She smiled
Leapt, without looking
And tumbled into the Seine
The water was freezing
She spent a month sneezing
But said she would do it again
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She captured a feeling
Sky with no ceiling
The sunset inside a frame
She lived in her liquor
And died with a flicker
I'll always remember the flame
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She told me
"A bit of madness is key
To give us new colors to see
Who knows where it will lead us?
And that's why they need us"
So bring on the rebels
The ripples from pebbles
The painters, and poets, and plays
And here's to the fools who dream
Crazy as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that break
Here's to the mess we make
I trace it all back to then
Her, and the snow, and the Seine
Smiling through it
She said she'd do it again
I honestly didn't cry at the ending, but this. This fucking scene God dammit.
Same same, glad I finally found someone

Thank you, oh wonderful artist, musician or actor this is too true

Please keep fighting.
man i feel SO related to this, but we have to fight if this is our passion
Don't give up. If it's truly your dream, then it's already worth fighting for.
Elena S. M. Canonico i know but i gets so hard. i think i started late. but i want it so much. i’m trying to not give up and keep going because i think i love it
@@guadalupechirino-roux2110 You're so brave for not giving up👏👏
This scene wrecked me at the theater. I teared up so badly cause it really got me. Emma owned this scene and not only her singing is beautiful and raw but her emotions and her facial expressions make you cry.. Best moment of the movie hands down👋😭👌
Oh God , how much I can love this girl ... She's ... Emmazing !
Nice.
Fab14630 Your pun was FAB-ulous!

COVID has made finding good movies tougher than ever. So I know how you feel
This was also the only film in history ever to win and lose an Oscar at the same time
@@MikeJ2023 I hope to God it never happens again

despite how many times mia has failed, i envy her for having such courage to do what she loves.
This is one of La La Land's best scene, such emotion in a song.
Watched this film recovering in hospital from a breakdown. Loved it and still do. This song is so sad yet uplifting. This film should have won the Oscar!!
I thought it did xD
As an artist this hits so hard. I realize how lucky I am every day to get to live my dream, I don't know how I would be able to live otherwise. I remember the time when I was facing rejection after rejection, and the people around me didn't understand why I was taking it so hard. It was probably one of the darkest points for me. I just wish the world was kinder to artists, they do need us.
I fell in love with this song - such beautiful raw passion and emotion❤️❤️❤️
La la land is my favourite fucking movie
Nasser Mouneera same
Nasser Mouneera This and Me before you

A thin, fragile voice, but Emma's vulnerability heightens this wonderfully evocative song to near perfection.
Plot twist
Casting people say "Who told this bitch we were filming a musical? NEXT!"
Arturo Aldana omg, why I found this comment til now? 😂
The best thing Emma Watson ever did was turn this role down.
Pff, no.
Yesssssss
People are cruel and proud of it
Martin Howe I’m glad she did. It worked out for both of them
Yeah, I'm really glad after watching how Beauty and the Beast turned out
The simple fact that this entire scene involves no movement at all and is THIS powerful goes to show how simply stunning both Emma's voice and emotion and the score is throughout this entire song. This is an amazing swan song that the entire movie builds to and wants us to take away, and succeeded on that front beautifully. :)
This scene caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting her to sing...but when she did, it blew me away. And it still does.
I can't see Emma Watson, playing this role.
bmitchell1974 same
Same. She’s good but Emma Stone is the best for Mia’s role.
Considering that Watson can't sing for sh*t, I agree
bmitchell1974 Yea, she lacks emotion...
Well sorry but she did. And killed it ❤️
This movie, this fucking movie . it should deem punishment for how much suffering it puts its viewers at the end . It ripped my heart to shreds . Ahhh... such a masterpiece . Damn you Damien Shazelle . Damn you and bless you at the same time.
mohamed abdelfatah Emma, the two Justin’s Paul and hurwitz and whoever
As an actress and filmmaker, this entire film HITS HOME!!!
This scene could have been the whole movie and I bet it would have still gotten an oscar.
Only Emma stone can captivate an audience without even moving her head for 4 minutes
Made me cry. Amazing. ❤
This is such a deeply emotional song, I cry everytime I hear it
Me too. And I’m not even an artist.
It's an inspiration for the people who want to quit their job to follow their passion.
"you can't quit your job if you're fired." 😊
"Here's to the messed we make". That movie hit me pretty hard.. we're all fools trying to fulfil our dreams..
i cry alot whenerver i hear this song
Diệu Trần me too.
I'M DONE. I'M CRYING. It wasn't my intention, but what can I do. *tears rolling down my face*
You could take out the entire rest of the movie, and this scene alone would be enough to earn Emma Stone that Oscar.
This is such a good scene. How it's able to hold my attention even without cutting or overlaying other scenes or visuals. Just Emma singing in the void. The piano playing is so beautiful here too. Adds a lot of interesting harmonies and melodies to follow
Every time that I watch this scene when Emma says "Here is to the ones ho dream" a tear come out for sure
This whole movie makes me weep, he should have just gone to paris with her😭 why don't people choose love above all else.
...because love is not enough; it's our greatest tragedy.
But then he wouldn't have been able to persue his dreams :( It's what makes the film so so good but really bloody sad

I hate myself for haven't watched this at the theater T_T
YES! me to. I've watched this for the first time on my laptop and I fully regret this :/
When I was watching this film in the cinema, I was crying while this song
This scene has me in tears every time. When I watch this I dream so big, and am reminded of why I dream of telling stories. This is my favorite film ever.
Who knew Emma Stone could sing.
Disney65Fan omg lol hiii again (i promise im not creeper) 😂😂😂😂
😂😂 r u the one who posted on my tangled and Cinderella vids.
Disney65Fan yeah lol i find u everywhere 😂😂😂😂😂
Anyone can sing lol not everyone can sing well. Her dining in the shower wasn't very good. I would say she improved. She had voice lessons. She worked hard. People need to stop acting like she rolled out of bed this way. She worked really hard
She sings in house bunny too
I´m in tears every time I see this audition part. It is so emotional......
Same…
This song seems tailor-made for ppl like me. Here's to my fellow dreamers! This world needs us! 😊❤
This song goes straight into my heart and there it explodes. Goose bums and tears. I just could not love ist more.
This always makes me cry.
This is probably the most meaningful and powerful scene from the whole movie, but the whole movie is a masterpiece... It's full of colors, emotions, hidden symbolisms, and a killer OST. More than deserved Oscars.
Beautiful song, and sung by actress Emma, who has a wonderful voice.
used this for my audition, one of the best auditions I've done periodt. got a great role because this song truly shows how high one can go and how they can belt notes. absolutely amazing.

A show stopper in the tradition of Broadway. In a movie.
Thats deep, keeping working and you'll make it
Musicals have been my life since middle school
😳...😭😭
This scene hit me so hard cause it occurred to me. I'm one of the Fools who dares to dream, and so is my cousin, and everyone. It felt as if she was exclusively singing to me. I don't know. it was so emotional for me, like, she recognized my talents for what it was, and that she recognized that I was my own person, with dreams, and wishes, and that those were precious to me, and that made me a wonderful person. This scene, was probably one of the best parts of the film. After all, we are all Fools who dream at some point.
Matthew Quiton Me too
This scene has me in tears even now that I've seen it several times. Anyone with a heart will be moved by it.
Sadly, the success of her audition is also the moment that begins their eventual break up. Ironic that Seb contributed to that bitter-sweet process. What a great movie. Please keep on working towards your dreams everyone.
I’m still sympathetic towards them but their smiles at the end make it redeeming to me
An extraordinary performance. Emma has grit and guts.
I never thought I would relate to a song that much. This movie is incredible.

this scene is one of the most compelling scenes ever!!
This was such a beautiful moment in this movie
This part had me drowning in tears, I was nearly embarrassed. Great job to that whole team AND Emma... so much love!
"Who knows where it would lead us? And that's why they need us." -- Best song lines ever. Ain't it the truth?

..
This film is a 10/10, change my mind.
And this was the scene that made me tear up
Frickin movie
Hold on! I'm not crying, it's just my eyes sweating. The most pure and heartbreaking scene I've ever seen.
Such a simple brilliant scene.
She lived in her liquor, and died with a flicker. I'll always remember the flame.
This made me cry the first time I saw this movie, absolutely beautiful.
