  • Welcome back all! This week we are sharing with you our progress on the railroad. We are very close to putting down some rails out here, but we have a ways to go yet. That being said, things are starting to happen out here. Stay tuned for next week as we celebrate a recent special event that took place out here 😎 Do consider joining the discord if you haven't!

You might want to consider putting down a layer of plastic down now between this layer and the next layer to keep the weeds from sprouting

Just lay your track and then ballast, that's how we do it on the 1:1 stuff. If we do a sub ballast layer it's graded and rolled like you were making a road. You will generally find working the surface and alignment with that much down will cause you more work

He said something about 😮horses 🐎 and donkeys 🫏 helping on the railroad. You guess have friends have work horses 🐎 and mules coming to lay down rock 🪨 for base. That would be so cool to watch. Things are looking great 👍 👌 😊😊.

The construction is going well even with all the rain. I wish I was younger and could volunteer to help. But since your place is only 10 hours away from my home in Hamilton Ontario my wife and I will try to be there when you start running. I will bring the jeep and hit a few off-road trails while we are in the neighbourhood.

Thank you Matthew! And thank you for joining us 😎 I'll be sure to include your name in the next video. The rain has proven challenging for sure but we're still pushing forward. If you do make your way out to us in the operating season we sure would love to have you here! When it comes to off roading there are a lot of cool places to go see and we would be happy to share a few routes for you two to take.

You say you may not be an "A-1" excavating company, you're doing pretty good so far. It takes practice and experience.
I like your ballast box. How thick does it place that initial layer of ballast?
Is that a round screened product you're using for sub ballast? Have you considered more or less a bank run or pit run material? You won't have to worry about your subgrade migrating into your sub ballast for stability. Plus it might cost you a little less than buying a processed material.

@@JohnCamerota-jg6wt we are going to grade this stone out and then put ballast on top. This stone is just to help from losing the ballast into the sand.

@JohnCamerota-jg6wt Yes, this is a round stone with some crushed stones in it. We are using this as a sub base because it was donated.

Tell me the degrees of curve you are using or the radius of the curves and I will calculate a set of off-sets for 100 feet and 200 feet so you may set center stakes for the track.
