IS THIS FOR REAL ??? Those artists do not sing Carmen - they LIVE Carmen in the most incredible way ! This is the way to sing opera ! To live it , not to kill it ! No wonder Callas considered Ponselle the greatest soprano of the century ! Listen to all these "modern" artists , who think they understand music better than the whole world, who sing without knowing or understanding the plot or the words. I worked with an American singer whose diction was a nightmare at daytime. I tried to work with her on French diction and pronunciation. Well, she got furious and told me that "English is the most important language in the world" and she doesn't have time for stupid things that no one pays attention to !!!!!!! This is the safest way to kill opera merciless .
Burt Lancaster decided to become an actor after seeing the live performance of Ponselle"s Carmen. We also have to remember that in these years there was only 1 microphone to record everything. It give us a great idea of the magnificent voice of Rosa and the power it had ! It is a very surprising interpretation of Carmen but the more you listen to it the more any other version (Including nowday's performances) sound or look fade, boring and flat... I would give anything to get back to this time and watch Ponselle live on-stage....
Настоящего искусства здесь довольно мало, ибо оно требует хорошего вкуса и чувства меры. Когда певцы начинают не петь, а орать, мне хочется, чтобы они оба поскорее покинули сцену. Chi grida, non canta. Понсель переигрывает ужасно - ещё больше, чем в сцене оскорбления из "Травиаты". С трудом представляю возможность такого варварства на оперной сцене.
All I hear is perfectly clear voices, albeit in some points "dated", style-wise. Just the spoken line: "Laissez-moi passer" surpasses the whole Netrebko career. xD
Marvelous! The applause for this is extraordinary. One wonders how much longer it went on. With Ponselle involved, it may still be going on.
Legendary performance with legendary artists
El poder inmenso del verdadero arte..
Amazing!

Auweia. Es fängt gut an, dann get's den Bach runter. Das muss wohl Bellow Canto sein, hab's so noch nie gehört und will auch nie wieder.
